I'm running a Shadowdark campaign for my weekly group right now, as well as GMing/Playing in a West Marches campaign using the Shadowdark rules. Great game!

Been playing for several months now. It's great!

I really like Shadowdark too for all the reasons you menioned. We like the treasure = XP and the carousing is really fun.

I have to admit, Dragonbane is the offical TTRPG for me but Shadowdark is my #2. I've run a couple sessions, played like 40 hours of it, and like 13 characters have died. Buhahahahahahahaha. I already have Shadowdark scheduled for a couple cons this year.

I dig Dragonbane too. The illustrations alone are worth picking it up. I haven’t run it through. Only read through. The mechanics are not as intuitive as Shadowdark, in my opinion, but I love the setting.

Shadowdark and Pirateborg are my favorites right now.

Shadowdark RULES. Crown and Skull, which just came out, and HOLY COW it is also worth the time. VERY different to Shadowdark.

There is a video I posted about a month ago giving my top 5.

I ordered it when it went back on sale last week and its on its way (I live in Ireland so it will take a bit) But I plan on running it with Gunderholfen Megadungeon alongside The Monster Overhaul to add more flavour to things and some better set ups for encounters (Gunderholfen has all the set ups and encounters, tons of tables for everything already, I just want to add more to it. Going to change the XP system though otherwise the parties would be super leveled very fast ha I am also a fan of Mork Borg :-P I like the more simple rules as well as the OSR and old school type games they are just better IMO. Shadowdark really is just another Old School game system with some small changes but it is very good :-)

Did you order the special edition cover? Totally agree. It’s OSR but done really really well. I’m not a huge OSR guy usually, but you have to give props where they are due.

@@VictoryConditionGaming No I just got the normal one by the time I got to the site the special was gone ha but still happy :-) I dont mind about speical stuff most of the time. I really like it has all the stuff I like also a big DCC fan so it hits all my marks as well as been very well layed out and easy to understand. Some OSR stuff isnt or assumes players arent new and understand alot. I like OSR and that sort of stuff more also its so easy to run anything with them want to run the first ever DnD adventure just plug it in and it works more or less perfectly. Also alot of choice in them so can get way more complex in them if you wish or more stripped down. I didnt like 5E I started with 4th Ed, then played some 3.5 as well then we had both a 4th Ed and Pathfinder 1th ed game on at the same time (PF was pretty much 3.5) So I dont mind busy games at all just something felt off with 5E for me. Also I am in my early 30s want to get lots done so If I only have 2 hours spare I want to do a bit more than one or two events. Sorry for my rant I am excited :-P
