Is Running A Weapon Light On Your EDC A Good Idea?

Someone asked me this on my last Facebook Live. I like this question because it allows me to expose some things I know about running a light on your gun especially because I ran one for a while some time ago. I hope you enjoy.

I edc a light separate for multiple reasons. #1. You only point a weapon at something you are going to shoot.

I've been shooting at night more with a wml and I'm finding that I don't think the light manipulation would be the hardest part, but using a red dot is the hardest part about the weapon light for me. I lose the dot with the bright light but if I turn the brightness up it's too bright without the light and the auto brightness doesn't adjust for the flashlight

Fine versus gross motor skills is a fallacy, especially during a reload. You have to do 10-20 fine motor skills (draw, shoot enough to need to reload, press the mag release, grab the mag, and insert the mag) before you have to use the slide stop/over the top. Please stop saying this.

I have a g23 gen 5 and I think I’ll make it my new edc. At first I was carrying a Taurus g2c 9mm (my baby) with a olight. I think I’ll keep that as my home defense since it had the olight w the laser.

Attaching a tactical light to a gun is optional, not mandatory, but it does have its valid legit obvious functions. It is a fact that the added weight under the gun barrel reduces muzzle flipping, thus improving target acquisition for faster shooting. It also helps to identify a target at night time, particularly if you are at home, where fatal mistakes could be made. Gun tactical lights are excellent for the military, police, and civilians. The latter is a matter of personal choice, in my case, I own several gun lights that attach to my handguns at will, and remove them when I feel like. Easy going.

Lights and Lasers have become very small and will continue to get more powerful and compact. You can also touch the switch with your non trigger finger hand, so if your comfortable I say " why not, go ahead".

I agree with everything said Main reason I run a light is to be able to identify if the threat has anything in his hands . He makes the wrong move and I have the green light

I just renewed my permit to Carrie and my instructor as well as the one before they both told me the weapons lights give whoever is trying to harm you an exact location as to where you are.

Weapon lights on pistols are literally for home defense. If you shoot someone in your house at night and you don't have a light on them, the cops can fuck with you and so can the DA. "How did you NOT know, that it wasn't a friend or family member" is a question if you don't have a light on your pistol or shotgun in a home defense shooting. You don't need a light at night in dark parking lot and someone trying to hurt you. No time for that, no where to run.

Same, I think I would run one if someone made a shirt where there's another piece of fabric stitched onto the lower half of the shirt. Then you could tuck that extra piece of fabric overtop the holster and no foreign material would be able to get into the trigger guard should it fall down your shirt. The first layer of the shirt would go behind the holster to prevent the holster from gripping your skin, making it more comfortable.

@@vicentehall6449agreed. If it doesn't cover the trigger guard with the light, was it intended to have a light attached to it? If so, spend more (which isn't much) and be prepared. Skip eating out a few meals and save up for life saving equipment

For concealed carry I would go with carrying one or two sub compacts and opting out of weapon lights, red dot sights, compensators, threaded barrels, and extended magazines. But when it comes to that home defense or competition gun, trick out a full size pistol with all the bells and whistles.

Weapon lights would be for if you know it’s gonna be a late night out and red dots on carry pistols are not something I’ve gotten use to yet either but I see their purpose for some people a red dot on any size pistol is better for them

The idea is to hit them in the face with the light to get a PID and blind them. They will waste a couple of seconds turning their head away and then trying to re-aquire you. I'm still on the fence, though. I'm not sure if I want the extra weight and bulk on a carry gun.

They're good for police but not civilians. You cannot draw your gun on someone to see if your life is in danger. You have to know that before you draw.

use both. i live in upper michigan where its cold quite a bit and people can comfortably carry a bigger gun. so its easy to carry with a light. carry both! handheld and wml. i shoot better with 2 hands on the gun so it works better for me that way. i also live in the middle of nowhere so i have the handheld at all times Edit: switched to just handheld for now. Put my wml on my shotgun that’s used for home defense. Got a handheld that lends itself to still holding the pistol with both hands and the light has a ring for your ring finger to still have it with a 2 handed grip and doesnt effect my grip!

@@RonnieEverette im not talking about in your home. I'm talking about self defense concealed carry in public..It's aggravated assault to pull your gun to shine around a flashlight which is a felony. You have to have your life in danger before drawing so a light is unnecessary.
