I deleted the original post of this comment and wanna rewrite it. I deleted my replies also, kept a few though. So you will see people replying back to me but remember, they saw my old comment and I rechange it. So here's what I think... Let me begin. It has a smaller airflow, not garbage airflow, people experiencing overheating or loud noises are the people who have a faulty console remember that before you start arguing with them. This is already true so what I'm about to say is 100℅ the truth, the Slim is slightly louder/hotter. I mean, make some sense people. Now, I don't want to hear "LTT" because I don't really like his test, that sound chamber may trick you but his mic replacement is far from the console, don't believe me? Just try it, if you put the mic closer, the Slim is truly slightly louder not much, only slightly. I even have some proofs, these youtubers may not be as popular but they have proof so you can't deny that. (KZreadrs: @Mystic @McKuc ' I don't know if I can include this guy but I'll do it anyways, @PuzPlays ') Ok now let me explain if you don't still believe me, after I explain and you still don't believe me, that's your problem not mine. Anyways, the reason why the Slim is slightly louder/hotter is.... Ofc, the downsized cooling. It doesn't have any upgrades on the cooling so why expect anything? It has the same 6nm chip which means it would produce the same heat but on a smaller case with small heat dissipation materials. Also, the downsized fan, heatsink and airflow too, bigger fan, heatsink and airflow is a good thing because it helps the console to cool down better. Plus, no vent grills? (Vent grills - the thing on the top of the console which prevents dust and sort of dirty things) So, what now? You might say, " Well the Slim has upgraded cooling because it has 5 heatpipes while the Og has 4 heatpipes, it has more fan blades than the Og, and smaller baseplate, so your wrong. " Let me correct you right now, first.. The Og has 6 heatpipes, I wouldn't trust a source from GOOGLE without showing me the proof, I seen x-rays showing that the Og has 6 heatpipes while the Slim has 5 heatpipes. Second, the blades, while you maybe correct because indeed the Slim has more blades but did you know that the Og has more blades😮. You might say, "HOW?? The Og has 17 while the Slim has 19! " Well, if you actually google the fan, the Og has 2 different types of blades. The 1st fan has 17 blades like you said while the other fan has 23 blades. So, technically the Og has more blades, just have the right model. Third, the baseplate. Yes that's true, it has a smaller baseplate but did it do anything? According to the tests, nothing change! Well, it maybe helped the Slim get more air a little bit but still isn't enough to get the same as the Og. Thanks for reading. Test means Nothing, because you need to measure the Temperature of the CPU directly.

That's not how you effectively test temps. Lol. That could also just mean the Slim is more effective at exhausting heat while the OG traps it. or it could be where components are located. Even still, a couple degrees is negligible. This is literally the same thing as testing the oil or coolant temp of a car's engine by pointing a thermometer at the muffler.

Wait I'm not trying to be a tech nerd but isn't console design for dissipating heat? Not trapping them? Maybe that just means that the Og is effectively dissipating heat but this video is pointless. You're right about the "not how you effectively test temps". His basically just testing it outside, it needs to be inside if I'm correct. Edited: Oh yeah, I think even though this test wasn't really accurate. I think the Og is still a tad cooler bc : The Slim and the Og has the same APU Chip = which means same heat would be produced. Only thing, you're putting that same APU Chip in a smaller case with smaller heat dissipation materials (a.k.a the Slim). So I think the Slim would still be a tad hotter even if the test isn't accurate but that's just normal for the Slim bc like I said, it has the same APU Chip as the normal Ps5.

My point is that the PS5 OG & PS5 Slim are 2 different designs & can be dissipating heat in different ways or at different points. It is not an apple to apple comparison. So the minor difference in temps registered can easily be attributed to other factors. That’s all.

Guys, this only shows cooling performance of these two consoles out of the box, but there is no noise measurement. PS5 slim possibly can have same cooling performance as standard PS5, but it can be much more noisier and this parameter and performance can significantly change with time. This video says nothing.

You realize the temperature comming out the back of the console isnt indicative of the actual temp of the chip. The hotter one could just be better at removing the air for all you know

I think the Og is doing better unless Sony changed the APU chip of the Slim. I'm not trying to be a tech nerd but the Slim and the Og Ps5 has the same APU chip, same APU chip = same heat would be produced. Only thing, you're putting the same APU chip in a smaller case with smaller heat dissipation materials (a.k.a the slim). That would only means that the Slim is normal to be a tad hotter/louder than the Normal Ps5. Consoles are design dissipating hot air, so maybe the normal Ps5 just makes less temperature than the Slim👍 The Ps5 Slim might be pushing more hot air at the back but I think that just means that the console is generating more heat, so probably not better but the Slim is normal for being a tad hotter than the Og bc like I said : It has the same APU chip but in a smaller case.

Don't put the ps5 vertically without the stand cause there's a way for it to kick out heat from under so not putting the stand will make it heat up more than the ordinary

So I have a ps5 slim, and my hdmi cable and my ethernet cable deform because of heat, like I literally changed my ethernet cable because it started to melt, I think it was because it was close to the wall but even now when I moved it, the cable still deform because of heat (I got it only 4 days ago for Christmas)

I had original since launch I was noticing it getting hotter than normal (even after cleaning the fan multiple times) And making online lag unbearable Got the new slim And it runs just as hot but given the fresh parts It doesn’t affect gameplay performance over extended hours But there the same if brand new

This demo is definitely a lie, I bought both systems & the PS5 Slim definitely overheats compared to the Original model. I bought the Slim originally & only had it on for 30 minutes doing the updates, logging in, downloaded the Modern Warfare game that came with & it was definitely hotter than it should have been after only being on for 30 minutes! Also it’s very loud when installing the updates. It’s two tiny legs it comes with is very cheap & unstable to lay it flat.When I went to Best Buy I even asked the sales agent about overheating because anyone that’s a true gamer knows this has always been an issue with the Slim models. The Best Buy sales member asked me would I be doing any streaming & I replied no, I use my Apple TV for streaming & my PlayStation for what’s its original intent was manufactured for, Gaming. You see that was a interesting response because it implies that I shouldn’t have bought the Slim if I will be streaming because it would be on for a long period of time. So after realizing the abnormal heat for only being on for 30 minutes I started doing y research, especially knowing the history of the PS Slim editions I thought this would be a prehistoric issue going into the year 2024 with the advancement of technology & all the bragging PlayStation is doing about their gaming consoles. But to the average Joe they can sell these units to them with them not being knowledgeable about the product. So after realizing the situation I obviously took it back & got the Original PS5 AKA Phat Boy did the same set up process but I went even further, I downloaded 11 games & left it on by mistake because I fell asleep on the couch for a couple hours & it was not even hot or warm to the touch. If you don’t believe me buy it, you can return it & get the original model the Phat Boy & you can literally compare it yourself, they are both the same price from Best Buy. My purchase was from a Best Buy in Cleveland, Ohio for point of sale origin. Thank you.

I have ps5 slim and i love this console.

maybe inside temperature is the same but just cuz it's smaller then the outside became hotter sooner than the bigger one, like putting something in the microwave, the inside will heat at different time with the scale of the food but with the same microwave

no its fact also@@xPremiumRabbitx -- size makes it more practically to buy. FAT version I didnot buy till now berceuse of size its crazy fat. I am 1st to buy slim version not even released in UAE bought the USA version without warranty so far very happy. It does get hot I dont care that much. No over heating notification so far.

Nah the OG is trash the HDMI port being near the wall cord caused it to break and then when a cheap repair shop fixes it they can’t make the Liquid Metal to stay under the heatsink . Never being a OG ps5 to a repair shop have Sony fix it you’ll never regret it having Sony doing it and to wait via mail

I like the slim but yes it gets hot
