Is Prince Harry STUCK in a fantasy?

24 years after the tragic passing of their mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, Prince William and Prince Harry seem to have dealt with their grief very differently.
In this video, I analyze the two brothers approach and why one might be better in their understanding.

6:00 Ooh! You just made me think of adding a scene to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. What if right before Harry decided to walk into the Forbidden Forest to give himself to the Deatheaters. He once again stood before The Mirror of Erised to see what he currently desired most in the whole wide world? What do y’all think Harry Potter would have seen in The Mirror of Erised?!

I think what most people are missing is the impact a tragedy presents itself to a 12 year old versus a 15 year old. Let’s not forget that a 15 year old has peers able to console them while a 12 year old needs a parent to do that, other 12 years olds are unable to help. The father wasn’t there more than a cardboard cut-out would be.

When Harry says "they're not going to stop until she's dead" and that the press hounded Diana because she was with someone who wasn't white... I cringe so hard at how stupid he sounds. It's rediculous, because she was hounded by the press for years before Dodi ever came along. And Meghan very clearly got Harry hyped up about his mother's death. She obviously is so angry at the media for the negative press they now give her. I feel her own way of getting back at the press is by hyping Harry up by telling him "She died because of the press, you need to hate them, you need to be against them, you can't be friendly with them after what they did to her. It's all because she was with someone who wasn't white. See how racist they were then, Harry. Just like now. Look how the racist press hate me too because I'm not white." I may be wrong, but Meghan hates the press for the fact that they can see right through her, so she has made Harry hate them too, and she's convinced him it's all under the umbrella of racism.

The fact that he is in his late 30 and still thinks that ways is beyond immature, especially now he is a Dad. You would have thought he would see a new side of things after his kids were born. Apparently not. If anything, being wealthy and publicly still bitter is a friggin luxury if you ask me. If someone was poor and acted this way it would have driven a lot of people away and they would be very lonely people sitting in their bitterness.

Let's just be clear about one thing Liz, he is right to resent the slavering "public" who were desperate for anything Diana. Their desire to know every little thing about her made pap photos extremely lucrative. They were the reason those men on motorbikes hounded her! Everyone likes to blame the "media" or paparazzi, and I do believe they have some part in her death. But they would never have been there if the worldwide public hadn't been so pathetically addicted to their Di fix and willing to pay for it!! I remember when she died and quite frankly the visceral grief of some people outside of Buck.P. was stomach turning. They had not met her, knew nothing about her or her relationship with her sons. They wailed and demanded that some outward visual of grief was shown by the family. So the Queen, well aware of the impact of the death on the boys, had to drag them from the privacy and quiet of Scotland down to London to satisfy the disgusting public demands for the public grief to be *acknowledged* by the family. The sight of people reaching out to the boys when they came to see the flowers, like they were at some bloody concert disgusted me. The interviews, the weeping and wailing on camera, the making it about them! I understand about wanting to be part of history, I was outside of Buck.P when Di and Charles got married, but the invasive way people insisted on becoming part of a mass grief, that was hysterical in nature was actually creepy. As an adult I would have been uncomfortable with it, there's no reason to expect the "boys" to be grateful for it!. Well done to William for processing the loss so well, but I'm sure he was not overly pleased having pull that horse and pony show over the flowers, he may be glad his mother was loved, but that is something different. As to Harry, he has every right to feel as he does, unfortunately this vulnerability is exactly what the woman he married needed to gain control. I have no doubt she has played the damsel in distress to the hilt. The way Harry talks of her crying into her pillow so as not to disturb him because he already had so much to deal with is classic. The more people rail against her, the more victim she is, the more this supports her role, and his need to protect her. I would like to know the name of the therapist(s) who is currently treating him and their actual qualifications, because quite frankly I think he has mentally deteriorated in the last year!

I thought of the Harry Potter books. When Harry Potter finally realizes that his father had some flaws and wasn't the perfect hero he always thought he was. Of course, he still grieves, but he ceases to see him like a perfect hero, free from flaws. And I think that's exactly the problem with Prince Harry. For him, his mother will always be the perfect angel who had no faults. As a result, he still blames the press for his mother's death. But it was her decision to put her trust in the hands of an unprofessional driver instead of continuing to use Scotland Yard-trained bodyguards, and it was her decision not to wear a seat belt even though the driver was proven to be driving too fast. The only thing that repeats itself here is that Prince Harry, like his mother, always makes decisions and interviews based on emotional states of mind. The urge to let society and the press participate in your life so intensely and the revenge on the family didn't make Diana happier and Harry probably won't make it happier in the long run either. To me it seems like William is mourning his beloved mother, while at the same time he has learned from her mistakes (in dealing with the press). Harry mourns a perfect angel that never existed, while unconsciously repeating some of her mistakes.

I loved her soul but Diana used the paparazzi to her advantage as well as being chased by them. She knew how to play the game, she had to or she would have been devoured by the media. Diana didn't die bc she was being chased by paparazzi by being with a 'black' man. Dodi al Fayed is caucasian. That's a genetic fact. Diana got into a car with a drunk driver behind the wheel and did not wear a seat belt. Had Diana worn her seat belt that fateful night, she probably would have lived. I'm a former trauma nurse & headed the trauma unit of a major hospital here in Australia. Diana was thrown around on impact and ruptured her pulmonary artery. That is what killed her. Nothing more. Narcissistic Personality Disorder is created by trauma or by Narcissistic parenting. Harry's trauma was caused by a combination of his parents divorcing (disruption of expectations) & Diana's death. Diana's death was abandonment. Harry has misplaced anger & needs to blame something or someone outside himself. He has a victim mentality & needs to rescue I believe his family may have been protecting him from media scrutiny or public criticism after Diana's death. Example: Drugs, Nazi uniform. It was explained as youthful experimentation. I think he was exploring alternatives to coping with his trauma. He may have been kept on the empathy path by his family until he met Meghan. Her love-bombing, manipulation & gaslighting has changed him into a Covert Narcissist. The Prince Harry that the RF knew is gone & they could not protect his image from the public. Harry was younger than William at Diana’s death, he was not the heir to the throne, and he married a woman who seeks to milk his grief and turn it into fame and money for herself, unlike Kate who was well adjusted and able/desiring to bring William to the same healthy place she was in. These 3 differences, I believe, set the stage for how Harry has stumbled where William has risen above. The first two are less important than the third. These boys’ choice of wives has made all the difference. Shame on Meghan. It angers me to hear him say “they’re not going to stop till [Meghan] is dead.” Diana’s death had NOTHING to do with the skin color of the man she was seeing. And she didn’t have to get in that car and be “chased” to her death. Harry is such a fool. It’s hard to feel sorry for him. I guess it never occurs to him wonder why William isn’t convinced Kate and his children are in constant danger. Harry is so selfish, it’s like he thinks HIS wife and kids are the only ones anyone cares about. I wish these two grifters would just go and live that private life they keep whining about.

I agree except the first point. Unlike many if people I think William's age is pretty much more problematic to lose a parent. He was 15 and a lot of bad things that can destroy your life can happen. 12 is young but it's better.

The difference between the two is that William is selfless, and Harry is selfish. William concerns himself with how his grief can help others, and all he cares about IS helping others, and hoping his mother will be proud of him, again, he's thinking of someone else: his mother. And all Harry can concern himself with is how his grief affects HIM. How HE'S affected, how HIS life changed, how HIS mother was taken away from him, how HE never wanted to share her with anyone, how HE hated hearing other people crying at the funeral because, how dare they? They didn't know her. She was HIS mother. Now he wants to save her through Meghan, all to make HIMSELF feel better. Regardless, I feel bad for both brothers. I lost my father at 9. Its incredibly hard. I wish them both the best.

Everyone is selfish. Hey, we do ANYTHING to give ourselves something. It is not always money, status, power, or any usual suspects. Sometimes it gives us satisfaction, mental peace, etc., but it is still something for us, for ourselves. The difference is what kind of selfishness we practice, and the degree of the selfishness. That means, selfishness is not bad, it is just neutral since ALL ACTS are selfish acts. In case of William, it could be that William helping others to give himself peace of mind. That is not bad, he is just human, of course. Still selfish, but such selfishness are waaay better than the selfishness of Harry.

Great video! I think William's last quote is also really revealing when he talks about his mother's legacy and what she would have wanted. In accepting that he can't bring her back, in a strange way, he preserves her presence and influence in her life. The more Harry tries to hold on to his mom, the more he looses her by turning her into something she never was and replacing her with false copies like Meghan.

@@annesmith6582 Not certain I'm really picking up on the point you're trying to make. Are you saying that Harry's behavior now is not because of trauma related to his mother and is instead purely the result of Megan's influence? People are of course incredibly complex. I don't think we can just boil it all down to "mommy issues" or "bad wife." I don't at all deny that Megan may be influencing Harry. I think Baggage Claim does a very convincing job of arguing exactly for that. My point was just that part of the reason she's even able to have success in her attempts is that Harry was already in some way looking for a replacement Diane. Narcissists prey on the desires and insecurities of their victims, but some seed of those desires and insecurities has to be present for them to even exploit them. Also, "not doing poorly" is not the same thing as "doing well." Harry might have been starting to deal with some issues and maybe we didn't see all the faults that seem to be creeping out of him now, but in many cases serious trauma can take at least 10 years of dedicated care to address it. If Harry spent years not facing it because "it wouldn't change anything," he not only wasn't actively addressing the trauma, but was almost certainly actively burying it, as opposed to just remaining in a neutral state. To pull from another film example, I was saying that Harry is kind of like Cobb in Inception. He can never bring Mal back, and any attempt to only creates an unsatisfying, lesser copy. Now, maybe Megan was more than happy to temporarily step in as that neo-Mal (or Diana) and then once established with Harry start working her own angles, but it'd be a lot harder for her to do that if Harry wasn't already building a fantasy conception of Diana in the first place. And I wasn't at all trying to say that Megan plays no part in exacerbating these issue or the divergence between Harry and William. I was more considering a particular aspect of how each processed their grief and some psychological results of those different approaches. William "leaving Diana in the past," to put it crudely, does more to preserve the "real" Diana than Harry's desire to still hang onto her today.

Harry's struggle with trauma & grief is that he believes that "it should've never happened"...that's why he keeps insisting that "I don't want history repeating itself." He is very fixated on fixing the past...when he really needs to learn to accept the past, it happened, it was beyond his control, no one stole your mom from you...she passed away in a car accident because her driver was intoxicated & she wasn't wearing a seatbelt. I get that he still has anger & resentment for losing someone he loved dearly. However, his victim mindset doesn't allow him to process that his father flew to Paris to claim her body in spite of their bitter divorce. His older brother was always there to share in his grief & to put an arm over his shoulder. He didn't walk behind her coffin alone...his brother, uncle, father & grandfather were there by his side. I hate the fact that MM takes advantage of his pain & suffering to keep him stuck in the past instead of moving on from it.

I saw how nasty and horrible grief can take people when i was young, and how awful it made me, or how i let it make me. I want my husband back more than anything but i also understand that i can't fall apart, i need to be strong for my son. I think william is amazing for becoming so empathetic and sympathetic to others loses and hardships. You either let it make you something better, or you let it take you down. Harry's grief is bringing him down... and i think Meg... this is gonna be harsh but i think Meghan is failing him as a wife. They talk about compassion but they don't display it.

Please can anyone, anyone at all, show me something even vaguely that puts M anywhere near Diana. If she was locked up with no way out, how did the press hound her, follow her everywhere. Diana did do galas to raise awareness and founds for her charitable causes, but also, picked up children, all over the world, with runny noses, limbs missing, sat holding a hand of an aids victum, sat in rooms with addicts and so much more. M did a few walk abouts after they got married and everything else has been around the celebs, powerful and rich, absolutely nothing like Diana.

This was very thoughtful, insightful, and creative. I think you nailed it with Harry - stuck in his grief, so he is easily manipulated and rather sordidly avaricious - and William - strong enough, brave enough, and mature enough to grieve and then let go, opening the arms that were holding onto his Mum so that now his arms (and mind, and heart) are free to hold others as they share their grief. William's children have a dad worth looking up to.

Altogether, they are together for almost 19 to 20 yrs that has also shaped him to be who he is today. I adore Prince William and his gorgeous family. I hope harry can look up to his brother and comes to realization.

I think this was a fantastic video. You can see how much of Diana’s flame burns in both the boys, but in such different way. I feel William has embraced her legacy with stride, while Harry still muddled through the anger. I’ve been grieving a lot recently and the anger is so destructive, I’m going to be taking boxing lessons and starting therapy to get the anger out naturally. I hope Harry is able to find a healthy outlet that Meghan isn’t a part of. I find her to be untrustworthy.

The man giving the lecture about being scared of death is right. You can’t hide from the topic of death, it must be addressed. I grew up where death was spoken about, went to funerals when young. I grew up without the fear & stigma of it. I raised my own family the same way. It doesn’t mean I don’t grieve, I do! But because I have a reality on death I also understand that my grief will mend & I will move on. The best thing to do is to talk of that person who has died, remembering everything, good or bad, happy or sad, best way to deal with grief. 😊

When I lost my father I was already in my 30ies. He was sick for a longer time and in a way we were prepared for his death, yet I was not prepared for it. The grieve was really, really hard to bear. I had no idea how much it would affect me. It took three years to process it and I still miss my father after 10 years now. I agree that to deal with the loss of a parent one can grow or one can get stuck, which would hinder in a very unbecoming way. In my case I developed a better relationship with my older sibling, which I treasure a lot. Very glad that I have him in my life. I could not really say how we achieved that. It is a challenge to deal with the loss of a parent. I cannot fanthom how a child or teenager could deal with it. I like your videos a lot.

I had finally forgave myself and decided to be strong that I was hurting more by not healing. Maybe it’s an oldest sibling thing bc I can see my younger siblings still acting out bc of it but I agree with William. Harry will never heal and be happy if he doesn’t deal with it head on. Our parents are suppose to go before us and why not preserve the good she did while on earth and carry out her legacy instead of muddying it up for money and Meghan

This video, aside from the dynamics of W+H, is beautifully done. I have book marked it and will watch often. Thank you for making it. And ugh, it made me love William even more than I already did. Your observations also work for the other trauma survivors too. I have been through all three styles of the recovery/ grieving process and I still go back and forth between these styles, especially when I am very badly triggered, and depressed. But I feel the strongest and healthiest when I utilize my experience and skills to help others & strengthen myself. It makes my life whole and meaningful. More importantly, it stops me from sinking into the hopelessness and helplessness mentality. On a separate note, really appreciate you presenting the videos in a calm voice.

I absolutely love your videos. They are so rational and logical. You are so right about everything. I always knew H was living out the protector role with his wife in terms of Diana's treatment by the press in general but never made that connection regarding Dodis skin colour and the wife. Maybe I just don't think about sort of thing. Now it really makes me wonder about why H chose her as his wife. The subconscious elements there. I really fear for him going down this path. I pray he makes something positive out of this. As for William, he is an incredible, mature person and will be a great King. I love seeing him with his beautiful family and so happy that he has found love, security and some peace.

I don’t know who you are, but I want you to know that when I see one of your videos pop up I really listen. That’s because unlike some of the other more gossip centered shows, yours is very deeply thought out with a nuanced and intellectual evaluation. You also state your opinions, biases, and do so unapologetically. I can tell that you do a lot of research and that you put tremendous amount of thought into your hypothesis. It’s refreshing to see an intellectual perspective on this subject that is then disbursed through stories and cultural filters that most of us can relate to. That’s the key aspect here that I think keeps a lot of us coming back to you. You use the stories that make and weave our cultures to help explain the actions of people today. That’s very clever of you, and I commend you for it. I like the format of how you do this. I like your incorporation of the photos, and the frequency with which you put up your videos. Hearing Peterson there was enlightening and such a relief. When my dad died unexpectedly I made an active decision to not crumble. To take care of my mum and do everything. I organised everything and took care of close as well as extended family. I read at his funeral and at the time I was called cold and many other sad things. But now, my mum thanks me for staying together. I've let myself fall apart over a death once and I definitely prefer using grief as a superpower rather than pity party.
