Is politics too corrupt to change? | Big Questions with Greta Thunberg

Ойын-сауық

Greta Thunberg joins us at Penguin to answer some big questions on her hope for the future, who's to blame for the climate crisis, and whether wisdom comes with age. Order your copy of The Climate Crisis here: amzn.to/3h7vPbv
We still have time to change the world. From Greta Thunberg, the world's leading climate activist, comes the essential handbook for making it happen.
You might think it's an impossible task: secure a safe future for life on Earth, at a scale and speed never seen, against all the odds. There is hope - but only if we listen to the science before it's too late.
In The Climate Book, Greta Thunberg has gathered the wisdom of over one hundred experts - geophysicists, oceanographers and meteorologists; engineers, economists and mathematicians; historians, philosophers and indigenous leaders - to equip us all with the knowledge we need to combat climate disaster. Alongside them, she shares her own stories of demonstrating and uncovering greenwashing around the world, revealing how much we have been kept in the dark. This is one of our biggest challenges, she shows, but also our greatest source of hope. Once we are given the full picture, how can we not act? And if a schoolchild's strike could ignite a global protest, what could we do collectively if we tried?
We are alive at the most decisive time in the history of humanity. Together, we can do the seemingly impossible. But it has to be us, and it has to be now.

If the ones doing it are ruining the western world while not impacting the climate change a bit, still should not interrupt them? EU alone cannot the climate change, not even if every European moved out of Europe. Yet greens are guilt-tripping and blaming us for "ruining the world". How about you go and do something will ACTUALLY have an effect and go demonstrate in China to close the new coal power plants they are opening this year? Currently they are opening new ones one-two per each week! Yet ""Europe is soooooooo bad"", yeah right.

@@MoiLiberty Sigh... The black book of communism, really? You realize that book has been exposed for being the fraud it is, including counting nazi soldiers and the Russians that died fighting them as victims of "communism"? First - the USSR was not communist, no matter what self-proclaimed communists say. It was state capitalism. Just like China today. In communism there is no state, let along an authoritarian one. I don't know if it's going to work, it's never been attempted. But more on that in my second point. Second - Marxism is mostly a criticism of capitalism, and again and again we see that Marx's analysis is true. He also outlined a theory of history where he predicts that societies would eventually have the means of production being owned by the workers, instead of having parasitic intermediaries that control those means without adding any value. He also predicted that this - socialism and eventually communism - would only happen in a very advanced and automated capitalist society. Which Russia never was. I'm also not interested in China's model, thank you. Third - You really should stop just repeating the same EXACT sentences you see on the internet without putting an ounce of critical thought into the. If I had a penny for every time I saw someone say the old "It's never worked before" and the "muh BBC (black book of communism)" I would probably have enough money to become another capitalist parasite. And mind you, you are not a capitalist. You are a capitalism fan. The owners of capital - oligarchs - are capitalists. Maybe read a few definitions before vomiting memes unthinkingly.

When I saw the first picture of the ozone hole in London on a scientific magazine I was amazed that none did anything to close it (the ozone layer stops the UV rays which are more warm and are melting the ice of the South Pole, creating clouds of cold water and the wind blowing brings them all around the world, that why, in the last years, the temperature is going up and down like an accordion music…but on a macroniveau this is causing always more hurricanes, the rising temperatures melts the lava more fluid, so more earthquakes, eruptions, tsunami all over the world). Now the ozone hole is big as the whole Antarctica and are decades that are ready projects for closing it (even relatively cheap ones) but none cares about it or wants to invest money for it…there’s a famous saying from the US Native Americans: “When the last tree has been cut down, the last fish caught, the last river poisoned, only then will we realise that one cannot eat money.”

Or at least if her strident and absolutist demands were met, then that would lead to mass starvation in the Third World (Green environmentalism is the "new imperialism"), a reversion to mediaeval times in Europe, and monumental conflict everywhere. You did not add anything valuable to your argument, nor did you specify the real science, given that you object to the truthfulness in the colossal work accomplished by well-known scientists in Greta's latest book. Those people, independent scientists working in multiple universities and scientists working in non-profit organizations, surely know their fields since they have endured intensive training for years to become accredited scientists. Tell me what degree you have to assert that you know more about science than those people. And tell me, even if you know a lot about science, what we should do is just to "sit tight and assess"? Yeah, the "greenhouse effect" is not so verifiable, well sure, but for many decades, the general consensus of the scientific community has extrapolated otherwise and has made it crystal clear that climate change and the dangers it poses are the results of carbon emissions from fossil combustion.
