I am French, and I watched this film since my childhood and I am very proud to say that one of my uncles was an extra in a deleted scene of this movie, when the resistants were descending the Sacré-Coeur staircase :')

I love the black and white, music, cast, cinematography, etc.
One of my favorite films. And this really happened--> Lieutenant Henri Karcher, after taking Gen. von Choltitz's surrender at the Hôtel Meurice: "[over the phone to his stepfather] Hello, Papa? This is Lieutenant Karcher. Your son. In spite of your pessimstic view of my military career, I'd like to announce I've just made some prisoners of the general in command of Paris at the Hôtel Meurice. He surrendered to me. But I'm still very bad at drill." (someone commented on the IMDB page about the film that Karcher's father died in 1914. But the book "Is Paris Burning?" by Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre makes it clear that Karcher was calling his STEPfather, a retired French general who did not share his stepson's admiration for Charles de Gaulle.

A real good epic!
Ashamed to say I haven't yet seen this. I always liked the soundtrack (Geoff Love) which I have. Seen the film "The Train". beautifully 'shot' also.

The Train is excellent. The black and white cinematography in both is wonderful. Is Paris Burning is a real good film.

Basically.
Seeing the Trailer at the Drive-in this looked to have too many girls and talking so I didn’t bug my Dad to see. Now it looks like a good movie I gotta watch.
