Is Pandora Jewelry Real

Ойын-сауық

Have you ever wondered if Pandora Jewelry is real? I certainly have, so I purchased the Pandora Heart Clasp Snake Chain Bracelet, a Safety Chain, and a Charm from Pandora and put it to the test. Is Pandora using Sterling Silver all the way or what's the deal?

In the uk a gram of silver costs roughly 50p.. to design and cast one item might cost them about £100 ish. However they charge about £70 for each item they sell so they must make a huge profit 😅

It is. All those charms are made in bulk with factory premade mold. They don’t worth that much. Plus they are selling silver with cubic zirconia but priced as gemstone price. Some of the gold over silver products are extremely expensive. You can even buy real gold, not painted jewellery in other big high street stores.

They are relatively inexpensive for the quality. And no, they don't purchase from AliExpress companies. What does happen is that the Chinese companies rip off their designs but use very low level metals. If you want top quality jewellery then you have to pay for it.

@@karolgarley LOL you don't know much about them then if thats what you think. Pandora is made in Thailand not china and alibaba and aliexpress are people who sell copycats of them and they are cheap fakes because i brought some off them and they didn't even last a couple of months without going black and was chucked in the bin. So a bit of education on where things are made will open your eyes

I've put acid directly onto items to see if there was a correct silver content. On true silver items, the dull silvery mark left by the acid can be removed with silver polish and and some elbow grease. If plated, then the mark is there forever. A word about magnets and silver: Some Pandora jewelry uses a lobster clasp. Inside the lobster clasp is a piece of base metal used to operate the clasp mechanism. That little piece of metal WILL attract a magnet. The same applies to gold jewelry utilizing a lobster clasp.

I must admit I would be very interested in testing of other brands that sell "Pandora like" charms and bracelets cheaper, such as Gnoce. before i started collecting Pandora i had soufeel bracelets and charms i had them for about 3 years before i ended up getting pandora. I still have the bracelets and charms i got from them. they still look good after all these years (i have a lot of photo ones) but their store went down hill after i think pandora came after them for a couple of their charms may of looked the same so they don't make so many now. But their quality was ok not as good as pandoras. i didn't like the fact it did come from china and you had to have it posted to you. unlike pandora you can walk into a store and get help if you needed.

I think there's better jewellery available for the price point. My mum and daughter both have silver Pandora bracelets and only get their charms from the Pandora store. I didn't think much of the earrings my daughter wanted from the store either but bought them for her anyway. She only wanted them because they were Pandora and lost one immediately. I replaced them with some studs a fraction of the cost with real gemstones that she loves. You're paying for the brand name, like many things.

Jewellery is always overpriced because it doesn’t serve a real purpose, it’s just pretty. Some kid loosing an earring certainly isn’t Pandora’s fault- shit happens. The idea behind Pandora is that you can collect, mix and match their pieces. And it’s quite durable, you can buy Pandora items second-hand and save a lot of money.

@@sandywichmann9292 I've no idea why you think I blamed Pandora for my ADULT daughter losing an earring, but it was partly down to one of the backs being badly fitting due to poor quality. I expect more from £80+ earrings and its a shame others don't or they'll keep pushing out trash. Of course all jewellery is overpriced, Pandora is overpriced in relation to the quality in MY opinion. If you like it and think it's good value/quality carry on buying it. Second hand earrings for piercings are not something we would wear from a hygiene point of view and, Pandora isn't something worth time wasting hunting down bargains for when there's much more unique jewellery available.

@@Julieoscar1 That's the shock most people get when they try and sell jewelry. Unless you have an unusual or exceptionally well made piece, you won't get much more than the value of the metal, generally way way less than what you paid for it. But I'm ok with paying extra for good design and quality materials (solid rather than plated, and real stones) that stand the test of time. Jewelry is a terrible investment, but they make great gifts and family heirlooms :)

The materials aren’t to only thing that matters though. Silver is actually pretty cheap at least compared to other metals often used in jewelry. I’m guessing those bracelets probably cost over 100$ but they only have about 10$ of silver in them. What really matters in jewelry is the quality that comes from it being hand made and checked after every step. Which for pandora just isn’t the case I think. So even though it’s real silver that doesn’t make it good jewelry and you’re still over paying when you buy it.

As a goldsmith I must say, I repaired quite some jewellery and pandora was always good to work with. All the things that you said are completely broken would be still fixable. The biggest problems I encountered were with Tiffany and 333 or 375 gold.

I see a lot of people criticise the price point on Pandora, and I too as a Dane who grew up with these specific charm bracelets way before they rolled into the international scene, can definitely see that the price of the jewelry is very high just as soon as it is found outside the Danish market... But.. all things considered with the export taken in mind, it isn't that expensive for something you can make so custom and personalised 🤷‍♀️❤️

I was an enormous fan of Pandora Jewelry. It's very lovely and the charms are beautiful. The problem is I had a Pandora bracelet with many charms and put it in a drawer and several years later when I pulled it out it was completely black. I know that silver tarnishes but I have never seen it tarnished like that. It would have taken me forever to clean inside the intricate details of the charms. I have costume jewellery and I don't know what type of metal is made of but I've had pieces for over 20 years and they are still as new and shiny looking as ever. The earrings don't cause any irritation and normally anything that isn't surgical steel or sterling silver will cause my ears to get infected. It is very inexpensive but just beautiful and it doesn't tarnish. I am so curious what this type of metal is. In my opinion I think it's far superior than sterling silver. The problem with Pandora Jewelry as well is when it tarnishes it smells terrible. It needs extensive care and does not hold up well with age. I would like to see them treat their silver with something to stop this very quick tarnishing process. With that said it really is very expensive considering how delicate it is and you're really getting a very small amount of silver. Normally silver jewellery of value is quite heavy.

@@Andi2495 some pandora stores don’t offer in-house cleaning anymore but I know in the uk that you can pay for it to be sent off to their warehouse and have it professionally cleaned, the amount of charms on the bracelet or the type of jewellery will depend on the cost but a bracelet full of charms is £25 for reference. They also sell cleaning kits which have a solution, polishing cloth and brush which can be used to clean up jewellery but only if it’s not SUPER bad will you notice a difference xx

The ICE test I assume is referring to the heat transfer where a material can transfer heat (in this case the air) to a cooler material, basically using the bracelet as a heat sink. Traditionally heat sinks are used to transfer heat from a source to the air so in theory silver could work but you probably won't see much unless you also have a fan blowing on the silver the way a computer fan blows on a heat sink to transfer the heat from the chip to the air BUT that could also just transfer the heat from the air directly to the ice and the only way to tell if the silver is transferring heat is if you have a fan that could ONLY blow on the without allowing moving air to touch anything else which you can't. Besides that, the bracelet would have to be very large, thin, and flat so as to maximize contact and surface area, think like a sheet or a disk, for you to see any real noticeable heat transfer (and therefore melting) without a fan. BUT before all that, realize that MANY materials, especially metals will do this heat transfer. It's not limited to silver so you wouldn't be able to tell if it's silver or any other metals. Heck if that bracelet was mostly copper, it would probably melt ice just as if not very slightly faster than silver because copper has an even higher heat transfer coefficient, one of the highest of any metal. In fact most heat sinks are made of either aluminum for the lower end, or nickel plated copper on the higher end because of how much heat it can transfer. So yeah that article lied. Silver does not have the highest heat transfer of any common metal, that would be copper, but just slightly.

  • @ChibiChidorii
    @ChibiChidorii Жыл бұрын

what they mean with the ice test is that you have a big block of ice (like those big cubes for wisky) and you place the silver on top it will melt the ice around it, kinda eroding it. It will look like if you placed a hot knife on plastic and it melted the plastic. It won't melt the whole ice, just the immediate area around it, so it will melt in the shape of the silver. Most times they do the test comparing to other metals, like a silver ring and a fake ring and the silver ring will erode the ice faster

I might be crazy but the ice with the bracelet in it seemed to be melting much faster. Not a good test though. I feel like it might make more sense if it's just a ring on a single cube but still pretty wobbly. I feel like it would only be reliable to test if something is metal, which is pretty silly.

The ice test works - if you look at the moment the bracelet touches the ice, it IMMEDIATELY begins to melt it as if it were heated up, where the other ice just melts slowly. As the bracelet cools down its core temperature with the ice under it, the melting slows until it appears that the other cup has caught up and they are both melting at the same rate. However, at the beginning, the bracelet DID melt the ice/have a visible effect on video, on contact. :)

Exactly. I really like silver too, vintage pieces mostly but Pandora is way way overpriced, silver is not that expensive, ofc they are changing for the work put into making the jewelry but so do ones that sell antique looking ,fine crafted silver. Silver itself is not that expensive, not near the gold, so Pandora is mostly selling their name.
