Is Our Suffering Due to Sin? Jesus Heals the Man Born Blind

Are our sufferings in life due to sin-sometimes, all the time, never? What about the man born blind in John 9? Why would Jesus use saliva mixed with dirt as a healing agent? Why was the restoration of sight a mark of the messianic age? How do the blind see and the seeing become blind? In what way is this man in John 9 a representative of all who come to confess Jesus as the Messiah? These and other questions, Chad Bird addresses in this week’s video in Reading the Gospels through Hebrew Eyes.

I appreciate you sharing the Old Testament connections. It's so important to learn through prophetic scripture the coming of the Messiah and the redemption through obedient sacrifice on the Cross of Calvary.

I thought I fully understood this parable, however, your comparison on the "steps" the blind man went through coming to the realization that Jesus is the Son of Man and how it parallels all believer's journey to Him added so much more meaning to this lesson. Anymore when I read the events recorded in the Gospels and "think" I've ascertained the intended meaning, I always ask myself, " What did I miss? What more is He saying or teaching us?" I have to remind myself often that this is God Himself talking to us and not just words on a page. Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos.

I love Franco Zeffirelli's interpretation in "Jesus of Nazareth," of the blind man receiving his sight. The blind man who receives physical sight from Jesus walks around still with his eyes in a squint. But when Jesus tells him that he is seeing the Son of Man, the formerly blind man's eyes open MUCH wider as he says, "I believe, Lord!" Zeffirelli demonstrates much wisdom there, that the man's sight becomes even clearer, in a spiritual sense, as he accepts Jesus for who He is!

Also, Jesus' emphasis on "it is he who you are speaking to" hearkens back to the Voice within burning bush. He is, after all the Word of God! 💗

My unlearned thought. We are constantly on a path walking towards salvation. Some walk the on the earth, praying l, studying & meditating, steps so that we will eventually make our way towards Adonia. Then there are thise on a treadmill. They are walking, beling in all the critical areas, but continue their "normal sinful lives absent prayer, reading, meditating on Adonai's word. While they rack up mileage on the treadmill, they are going nowhere, as the treadmill is stationary. While these new treadmills can be adjust to mimic up & down hills or fast & slow movement, they cannot get you any further down a real road. You will be in the same location as when you began. Growing in a deeper relationship with Adonai requires actual, physical movement, walking away from sin & towards Adonai. So, are you on the earth or treadmill in your spiritual life? You must walk the walk before you reach the gates of heaven.

After I was reading an article about new earth that you wrote, I was wondering. Well we will enjoy new earth better than Eden, but how about sexual intimacy in new earth. Will we have our partner to enjoy? Couse I heared that we will be like angels nor Marrying each other. So? I’m confused.

I believed you read it right. Who need a sexual partner when you are in complete presence of a glorious God?? I assumed there is no greater JOY and SATISFACTION than being with ONE who truly satisfied.

Do you think he broke the law in order to show that he was Lord of the Sabbath? Like the David example or YHWH working?

I would not say that he broke the Law (he is the Lawgiver in the flesh). Rather, he began the process of demonstrating that the old laws of the old covenant, which he himself had given, were to be fulfilled and superseded by the new covenant.

@chadbird1517 I would agree with that, I guess I'm wondering what to do with: John 5:18 ESV - This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. I believe half that text. Is John purposely pointing this out?

Chad Bird. You read Jn 9 wrong. This is how it should be, The answer to the disciples question is. "Neither did this man or his parents sin. (FULL STOP,Then a capital B). Bat that the works of God will be done in him, I will heal him". The works are God wasn't the blindness, it was the healing.

@@chadbird1517 you did read Jn 9 wrong, go back over your video and you'll see how you read it, indicates the man was born blind tot the purpose that God would heal him. I'm not blaming you, it's the translation that's wrong.
