Is oral surgery WORTH IT? Income, lifestyle, AND sacrifices

Oral surgery is always an intriguing specialty for dental students. We get a little bit of exposure to it in dental school, but not enough to really understand the field. Oral surgeons are known to do crazy dental surgical procedures, have high incomes, and high job satisfaction, but what about the sacrifices you'll need to make to get there?
In this video I'm going to break down all the good and the bad of becoming an oral surgeon. I analyze the income, job prospects, and scope in oral surgery, as well as the sacrifices and opportunity cost to get into OS. And then finally, we'll talk about whether it's worth it.

As an DDS Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon, is worth it. Is not the most profitable career, and worse...the shifts and day to day work destroy yourself. But working in a panfacial fracture, orthognathics, open a neck in life threatens infection....or tumours is priceless. Is worth all the effort.

I'm not a dental student or prospect, just a guy who visited an oral surgeon recently for an extraction and came looking for a video of the standard procedure. Found your video along the way and was fascinated by it. I'm licensed in a different profession but there's no 'residency' in my field--can't imagine how rough it must be to work regular 30-hour shifts. Kudos to the bright young DDS grads who continue into oral surgery.

Am I eligible to do more than one fellowship after OMFS residency? If I hold a DDS and PhD, Can I still do fellowship after receiving my OMFS certificate of residency completion? Is a MD required to do fellowship?

I sure wanna know more.. especially when I've someone who quitted it after 6 months, I was hella curious cuz normally when u join such a hard speciality, u build ur upcoming 5-6 years around it whether it's regarding the financial status, social status, etc. and of course u do lots of researches and ask lots of ppl and after going through all this u quit after 6 months or a year.. I wanna know the reason in a very boring detailed way

  • 2 жыл бұрын

I could try to handle all the Bad things done to me, but she really hit on where.i cared the most, My patients and My ethics, so thats why i quitted. What she said was wrong and Univ got the report but told me that she had really Big connections and that they couldnt do anything about that. She only got flagged for that comment (but thats minor). I'm now not an omfs, life has changed a Lot, but i'm alivie, and kinda happier

A lot people whether in med or dental might want to go into a surgery type field not just non-surgical. And compared to other surgery fields, OMFS has a pretty good lifestyle especially if you open up your own office. Salary wise tho, I haven't seen another med specialty other than derm and other surgery specialties like plastics and ent that has a similar salary to omfs. Especially if you open up your business where your salary can reach almost 7 figures
