Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes introduces a new generation of apes many years after the death of Caesar, and the franchise's new protagonist has many similarities with the legendary ape who kicked off apekind's rise to dominance. In the movie, Noa is confirmed to be the son of his clan's leader, and by the ending of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes he has become the clan's leader himself. While his clan doesn't seem to know much at all about Caesar, Noa discovers the true meaning of his teachings and begins to live by them.
Given how much time has passed between Caesar's death and the events of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, it's clear that Caesar has become a mythological character more than a real ape. With no real way to record history, the apes of the different clans obviously interpret the legend of Caesar differently. The lack of records also makes it unclear what the origins of each of the respective clans are, and whether Noa is actually a distant relative of Caesar himself.
