It was a ridiculous decision even before the recent revelations. How can a right wing Tory be so easily accommodated into Labour? Though regardless, if she did (or it was leaked), I think it's rather obvious that the reaction would be "obviously they won't have her - she's a right wing Tory". It seems equally ridiculous to suggest that the Tory press will now stop claiming that Labour are "soft on immigration" because they've temporarily admitted a Tory MP who they are going to ditch at the next election, who may or may not try and have an influence on immigration policy behind the scenes.

But, the optics look very bad. All this furore seems to have achieved is that even moderates in the LP are wondering what the difference is between the two major political parties. It's very similar to the US where one can barely slip a cigarette paper between Republicans and Democrats.

It was a ridiculous decision before these allegations came to light, she's a hard right Tory, they should never back welcome in the Labour Party.

She jumps ship, that's a win for labour. She says the Tory plan on immigration is not working and labour has a better plan, that's another win for labour. Further down the line Labour withdraw the whip, another win for labour. The whip is restored to Abbot and Corbin, two more wins for labour. That's a whole lot of wins.
