If your brother seriously considers moving to Sweden, I would suggest that he makes that move soon. The longer he waits, the more things will hold him back in America. He will of course get more experienced with time, but one day he will find himself "stuck". It will also be easier for him to build a life here if he moves while still young. Anyhow, it is his decision and I wish him luck regardless of his choice.

I had to chuckle when you mentioned how Swedes like to speak English. Every one of my cousins and everyone I met in Sweden (when they found I was American) all wanted to speak English to keep up with their knowledge. I think I can honestly say I've spoken more Swedish in the US than in Sweden! lol

Guys I can probably explain this.. Swedes are very social in the summer months and nice weather, especially at the start of summer lol. We aren’t near as social and open the rest of the year. So a good idea is to try to make as many new friends in that window as possible to hang out with through the rest of the year 😅😂 Once you become friends with someone it’s easier to meet new people and friends of friends and such though. Good luck :)

They have just offered me a paid position, so they just need to prep the application for the visa before my student visa expires. Fortunately, the student visa allows you to work, you just have to be sure you prioritize your education and graduate. Also, as long as the new visa application is applied before the current one expires, I don't have to leave I can just continue working and getting paid while I wait on the visa approval.

Hi, just to make some quick clarifications: the reality in the tech industry or for tech adjacent jobs is significantly easier and quicker. Most of these companies have an agreement with MV which speeds up their applications. For example, I am from a low income non EU country, my work permit was approved in less than 10 days. This is because my company hires EY to do my paperwork for me and also have a special agreement with the Swedish gov. This is the reality for most of the large MNCs based on Stockholm. So keep that in mind. Process can be much quicker if you have a specific set of skills. Note: you don’t only have to be a programmer. I am not. But my job is very much in the tech space which played a massive role. :)

For a family trying to move to Sweden, it has been very hard to find jobs at Arbetsförmedlingen Platsbank. It seems like 80% or more of jobs are hired through staffing agencies. Should we just skip the Platsbank and send our resume in to every staffing agency instead? And is Duolingo level Swedish sufficient to get a job that requires knowledge of the language (seems like another 80% of them).

One thing I can not really let go is that your brother Christian (correct name? He is usually only mentioned as a brother 🙂) really has a, in my world, very typical American appearance 🙂. Unfortunately, I do not have any good tips to facilitate a move to Sweden other than to state that ordinary Swedes are more than happy to welcome people from all parts of the world as long as you want to be a part of and contribute to the country. After all, Sweden would not have achieved much of the welfare and success we had if it were not for labor immigration during the 50s and 60s. Personally, I wish it would be easier for individuals who are productive and want to create a life here to be able to do the same. Regarding the language, you are so many right, Swedes are generally good at English, we like to "practice" our own English with English speakers, which I imagine makes it more difficult to learn Swedish. I personally have friends who are stuck in English (they do not have English as a sign language) and to some extent I try to pressure them to speak Swedish and develop their Swedish skills. No matter how much I try to include them, they will never be as included with the language barrier. So learning Swedish in the long run will benefit the person well. Finally, if Christian wants to come to Sweden and enrich the country as Stefan and many others have done, I welcome you Christian with open arms and wish you best of luck.

Getting a work visa with that background your brother have, licensed or not. I give him a slim chanse to become a swedish citizen. Maybe if he is a physioterapeth or any other skill in the nursing, medical sector he would stand a chanse. Because if you follow the news they are screaming after qualified people in that sector. As well as teaching like yourself and in engineering. If your in those three sectors you are moore then wolcome here. And what you also neglect to mention is that not all works are to be found in Stockholm. Now that Sweden are changing most of the heavy industry sweden are known for to a green envirement friendly industry. Like Nortvolt car batteries. And the whole process from mining to produce steel and other products that comes with that. Finding jobb will be easier in northern sweden. Like in cities such as, Skellefteå, Luleå, Boden, Gällivare and Kiruna. They have after all said they estimate they need to recriut 100000 new workers. For the common years. You should do a video about that instead. There are an woman from Washington D C that have moved especially to Luleå just to start recriut people for this enviroment change that will need so much people. The company she runs is called Linnea C Consulting AB.

Stefan, I love your videos. I just have a small suggestion. If you have a guest, please let him speak at least 50% of the time. All what you say is very interesting but if there is someone besides you it makes it look like a plant if they don’t have a time to speak and that’s really uncomfortable to see.

I live here and moving here is a terrible choice. Finland, Norway or Denmark would've been way safer. We are not allowed to talk about all of the gun violence, terrorists and criminals. Swedes tend to stick their heads in the sand and pretend they are the best people and the best country. Media also wants to portray this despite statistics showing Sweden being at the top on deadly gun violence in europe. You can google this yourself. These are real problems which our neighbour countries do not have. Guess some people will learn the hard way unfortunately.
