Laurells is an awesome neighborhood I spent 3 months there and didn’t even feel like I was in a different country. It’s like a suburb of New York City. Great sushi restaurants great lounges great local people. I use to sit in the McDonald’s at night sipping coffee the McDonald’s was like a night club. I loved it

Sometimes it's hard for people to understand that. There are some safety issues in Medellin as well as negative aspects but how do you explain to someone you feel more comfortable and at peace in that place. For me it's the quality of life per dollar. Hired help etc. Then it's the weekend Finca culture. Break away and live with your family and friends for a break from the city.

I do understand a small percentage of it because I speak a little Visayan from the Philippines. It was colonized by Spain for 400 years. There is a lot of rich history between the Philippines and S. @@Karl__Pierre Well...Covid is one thing, but the distancing between people wasn't just starting after the pandemic. I think as a society the richer you are, the more indifferent you become. It is just sad. I plan to visit Medellin in January. Hope that is a good month there.

This is a great video because we hear mainly men moving or visiting Colombia for prostitution or their prospects of many women. I had a female friend ask me about an expat community in Medellin and all I knew was these guys who move there to get women. The men have a strong expat community but I am not aware of a female expat community.

Sensational stories get the attention. The truth is many women Expat here. I don't know the stats but I would imagine men are more likely to Expat than women since men are more risk tolerant. I'm here now and yesterday there was a woman Expat at the table next to me that had two friends visiting her from the USA. I made this video to show the otherside, glad it resonated with you.

@@Karl__Pierre Sorry for the late reply! Gosh, there's so much I could say. Pros of Barranquilla: almost every day is sunny (at least part of the day), people are super friendly, laid back culture, fantastic food and beaches. Also, it's a great place to live--not too expensive, but great quality of life and good infrastructure. It's not as glamorous as Cartagena, but folks here say, "Cartagena is for visiting, Barranquilla is for living." CONS: The weather is much hotter than Medellin--you can't beat the weather in the center of the country. However, it tends to rain more and be cloudier. Also, public transportation is not as developed as Medellin, but taxis and buses are everywhere and economical. Utilities can be crazy expensive (we pay $600.000 cop for electricity because we always need to use the air conditioning for our baby.) Also, there are not as many museums and touristy things to do. In my opinion, being in Barranquilla feels like I can be a bit more immersed in Colombia without the over-saturation of tourists. Sorry for the long answer, but I hope this helps!

I'll be there in August for the festival of flowers can't wait it'll be my 2nd time in Medillin, my 3rd time in Columbia, great video good job ,can't wait to come back

I often hear that phrase when discussing danger in Medellin... "it's like anywhere", but It's really not. I lived in Medellin for three years, and men are constantly getting drugged and robbed if they go out at night or meet a Tinder date (not referring to those out late looking for prostitutes who are putting themselves in danger). Anyone who says, "it's like anywhere" probably hasn't been to eastern Asia, where I have lived for two years. It's significantly safer here. There are certain barrios in Medellin where the locals will tell you, "do not go there alone, especially at night". I've never had anyone warn me not to go somewhere in eastern Asia.

well dont date on tinder and find people in real life through your friends like its suppose to go. you gotta make some friends and have them introduce people to you. anywhere outside of some western countries are dangerous this is the sad reality of the rest of the world outside our bubble. learn to adapt and you will have a great time. and it may be safer in eastern asia but women arent as pretty imo. if you like the asian look then thats the place for you.

I think the most important thing to check is how you feel about administrative processes here. They are very slow and inefficient. That's usually one thing that stresses Americans out. I have no doubt you will like the city as a family unit but those details can make life uncomfortable. What's your plan for long term visa?

A bit of advice. I lived in Medellin for exactly 1 year before moving to Ecuador and then Peru. If you plan to live in Medellin, learn how to pronounce the cities name. In Medellin they speak a different dialect of Spanish and the double L is not a Y sound but instead more of a G or J sound so it sounds like Mede gene not Mede Yene; the lady said it correct @ minute mark 12:35 for reference.

Millions of people speak Spanish in many different ways. It's perfectly understandable with the LL=y pronunciation.

How many times does people get killed over a cellphone in Japan or South Corea? Japan has a population of over 125 million people and had almost I think something like 180 murders in 2018 while Medellin with a population of over 2 million had more then 500 murders. Please don't say that can happen everywhere., it is a horrible argument. Don't want to sound mean or negative bro. Keep up the great work with your channel!

It certainly can especially if you're from a large city in the USA. Could get shot in a mall or a day care. I being from Jamaica Queens NY was in an environment where murders happened to the point the daily news had a murder counter on the bottom right of the screen. So I guess of comparing to Japan or Korea yes but comparing to NYC or Chicago or Miami it's in line. Biggest issue in Colombia is wage gap

I'm not sure I believe everything is connected to everything anymore bcz of seeing how beautiful this place is without all the wildlife that you have right outside Newark NJ would have. So weird in that way! I have never seen a rabbit here. I have friends tell me they say a squirrel once. So darn weird!

Barranquilla temp runs from 75 to 90 year around.I was there last year for 2 weeks I don't speak spanish but knew a person there that helped me out when she had time after work.The peole were very nice that I came across.

The holidays, omg so many holidays and everyone take the time off. Unlike US where holidays are not required to be given by companies and even so many people will work during the holidays in fear of not working will make people think you are not committed to the company. Hahahaha. The reason is the minimum wage per month is $250/month. Sex workers can earn$10-$100/hour. And I'm sure on chaturbate depending on the following one can clear more than that without having sex with anyone. What you have to keep in mind though is the majority of women are not sex workers. So you can't visit thinking every woman is DTF. The truth is if you're a semi nice guy, speak Fluent Spanish and treat a woman there like you would an American woman she will be quite happy to spend time with you.

Very interesting interview. I also live now in Colombia and I have stayed three months in Mexico and three months in Brazil aswell and nothing has happend to me but I really don't agree with the narrative at all when it comes how you guys want to downplay the violence in Colombia and Medellin. It is just extremely bias. Please. Medellin has a murder rate of over 20 per 100 000 people. Which city in Europe has a murder rate that high? Very very few cities in the US has cities with murder rates so high. Baltimore is one that has a crazy high murder rate. I have colombian friends and they don't even walk around with their phone on the streets in pretty safe neighborhoods and they are many Colombians that thinks twice, and PLEASE don't compair Medellin or Colombia to France and Italy. Sure violence exist everywhere but hey it is a diference . You can't just think of personal experience. Look at the murder rate and the gdp per capita in Colombia and compair it to Italy or France. If you look at Europe and countries like Japan, South Corea and China and compair it to Latin America then it is a huge difference. I understand you guys love Colombia and Latin America and get upset when people think that Colombia is like Afghanistan but please don't compair it to Europe or even the US. Don't compair 1 murder rate per 100 000 people which is Italy and France with over 24 or 26 I think per 100 000 people which is Colombia

I love how she says basically no crime.. I've been to Medellin now like 5 times.. there is definitely lots of crime.. she is just saying she did not experience any.. One thing I don't like about Medellin.. you really don't want to wonder of the beaten path or you leave yourself open to bad things.. even in some of the neighborhoods away from Poblado and even in Poblado, bad things happen.. I had friends that went hiking up in the foot hills got robbed by teenagers with knives, I knew someone who got stabbed in the hand walking around a park at night in Poblado, followed the news of people being killed for their phones, or being held at gun point for jewelry.. lots of bad shit happens.. I would rather live in an affordable place in Europe where I can walk around at night and don't have to worry about stuff during the day as well..

What site does she use to rents apartments. I own a home in Florida I rent a studio to an individual with a kitchen for 1000$ a month. Medellin is a top notch kinda life in general as a human being. It’s absolutely a more balanced healthy life style x1000%. American life just isn’t fun anymore. The average male in the USA no matter what age lives like a castrated caged animal.

You don't accumulate in the US if you're not putting into thr pot. Social security is not much and shouldn't even be part of your retirement planning

Why don’t Americans call themselves immigrants in Colombia, but instead call themselves expats?? Proud much?

Medellin has so many other problems besides crime, like the air pollution is really bad, worse than any American city with bad air pollution because they don't have good regulations for smog, and some times of years its unbearable for me..

interesting to read. if medellin is right place to me i don't know. i like to stay more close to sea. i m retired and have not to work again. i travelled a lot in my life. next june i start to travel again. like to see central america like panama and south america like columbia or other countries. i don't like to fix myself. depend on wind where he blow me. my income is 10 millions pesos monthly. should be possible to live there in a comfy way i think so. i don't want to invest, to old already

Hello Mario. Thank you for sharing. If I were going to relocate to Colombia and wanted to be near the sea I would choose Cartagena or Barranquilla. Medellin is a great city but not having the sea is a downer. There is a lakes region 2 hours away where I get to enjoy the water. Cartagena is only $75 flight and 1 hour from Medellin. 10M pesos a month will provide a comfortable life in Medellin. Have you considered Ecuador, puerto Vallarta Mexico and Brazil?

@@Karl__Pierre that there is a lake i didn't know. suit my wisches already. my spanish is poor even i lived in torrevieja spain before. use usually english and german there. even like to see the world more i need a basement like panama or columbia. last days i looked legal services immigrations in columbia, easy to get in. brazil i like to visit, probably mexico. as a actually 3 dose vaccinated i can enter all countries. i think i will travel first to columbia for get m-pensionada visa and from there can there can travel to countries. the idea is to travel to diff countries for some months and move ahead and finally going back to my basement

what an incredibly ignorant assumption. Medellin has more heavily tattooed people than any US city by far. it is pretty much 100% socially acceptable here to have MANY visible tattoos.

Amazing that you can earn a living wage doing anything in Medellin.

Not at all. Buses and subways in the city and uber is also inexpensive. No car needed. In fact they are reducing cars in the city.

@@Karl__Pierre I thought they outlawed Uber? When we went to Colombia in Jan 2020 all of our Uber drivers told us to sit up front and pretend that we weren’t ubering. They also told us that some taxi drivers were attacking Uber drivers, damaging their cars, etc

Some young people like to have that peaceful and quiet place, and some mature still love what the city offers, like going to different restaurants, movies, and museums, but I completely understand what you say. How's life in Boyacá?

@@Karl__Pierre Hi, Boyacá is a department with 3 or 4 towns over 100,000 people and over 100 small towns, some of which are very colonnial in style and picturesque. I was born in a farm near villa de Leyva and emigrantes to the US after finishing high school. I am very grateful yo the US, where i worked my way throgh college and had a good job with a corporation. I always wanted to return to Colombia and to the place where i was born because of family ties, the weather (15-24 degrees C), the sun risings over the green mountains, the friendly and hardworking people around. Villa de Leyva, founded in 1792, has become a tourist enclave particularly on long weekends, but it is still one of the most relaxing places I have known...For tourists, the area around Paipa, Duitama and Sogamoso offers a variety of ammenities and closby is the spetacular Lago de Torta at 3200 mts altitude with a white sand beach for daring bathers.. boyacá Aldo offers a number of valleys surrounded by green mountains, the most interesting being the Sierra Nevada del Cocuy at 5400 mts altitude, considered the most beatiful in Colombia (which I still have to visita..)...the travel to boyacá is easy from estación norte in Bogotá by bus or microbuses to Tunja and to the diferent towns from there....I hope you enjoy boyacá if you decide yo visit...

Anywhere in Colombia is better than NY. NY has one the worst quality of life in the world. It's expensive it's stressful and I hate it. My choice cities in Colombia would be Bogotá Medellin and my favorite Valledupar.

@@Karl__Pierre Most Colombians who migrated to the USA to New York come to work make money to retire back in Colombia. If they do decide to retire in the USA NY is not the choice there are other cities and states in the USA better and cheaper than NY.

Find a studio apartment in the US for $450 a month??? Hahaha, obviously she never lived on her own in the US.

You can in small town Ohio. Plenty of rural towns in USA with low rents but comparing small rural towns to where there is no real industry to a major city is not a good comparison. For example I can find apartments in cities in Europe for 400-600/month. Ie Paris, Valencia, Palermo. When you compare those to cities like NY Atlanta Chicago it's no comparison

When I saw the title of the video, my first thought was, a woman from the U.S. has to be a knuckle head to want to move to Latin America. For me, it was about the women because in the United States, the woman is the prize but in South America, that gringo man is the prize!
