Every QB in the league can thank Daniel Jones for setting 40 million as the new starting QB minimum. If the worst QB in the league gets 40 million then that's where negotiations start for everyone.

Giants fan here. DJ is far from ideal but he’s middle of the pack. You couldn’t even judge him last season. Our line had him seeing ghosts from week 1 and he wasn’t healthy. I don’t agree with paying him what we did, but he’s had the deck stacked against him his entire career. And who was there to throw to? The key was supposed to be Darren Waller but naturally he was hobbled all year. Worst I can say about Jones is that he’s mediocre.
Owners and GMs are being really stupid lately betting the house on all these young QBs who really haven't proven anything. How in the world are you going to pay a QB $50M a year and they haven't even won you a playoff game yet. There definitely needs to be a market reset on QB prices, but it'll never happen.

As odd as it sounds, the market reset will probably come from Purdy. Think about it. Purdy has 2 NFC championship appearances and 1 superbowl appearance regardless of how much or little he was carried by the team depending on who you ask. Other teams will go to their qb and say "Can you do what Purdy did?" and then go based on whatever pay Purdy gets from his contract. Weird world we live in but that's just how it is now.

Lot of armchair GMs in this chat. None of you know anything. The market for QBs in the NFL is insane, it is what it is, period. QBs who are 6-12 ranked are going to be at least 40+ million. That is the market value, you gotta play to pay. I can tell none of y'all know anything about business. Tua is in the 6-9 range with a solid argument for being 5. Again it is what it is. If Miami let's him walk the same people saying "get rid of Tua" are going to be the same people complaining "Miami is so bad." Actually good QBs are hard to find, not running first QBs (Justin Fields) Pocket QBs are what you really need. Look at Lamar, great runner, not great in the pocket, hasn't made a super bowl. MVPs are cool but irrelevant. Lamar hasn't made a superbowl but you know who has? Actual pocket QBs like Goff, Burrow, and Purdy. Mahomes is an anomaly because there hasn't ever been a QB elite at both, maybe Steve Young is the closest. Tua is going to get his bag because 1. The market is the way it is and 2. Tua has substantially improved every single year. Led the league in a few major passing statistics. Tua is a better QB than 99.99999% of the population and in the NFL maybe 5 QBs are better. If we can still legitimately have a debate this far in as to whether or not Tua (or any other player) has proven he's worth elite money that essentially means he hasn't. When you are genuinely worth that type of money there's nobody arguing about it.
Offering the highest contract won't turn a QB into a better one, let alone the best one. Those Tua-Dak-Cousins-Lawrence, or previously Russ-Watson-Murray conversations prove that the money paid out to QBs has nothing to do with their performance on the field. But exclusively with the commercial windfall the owners think they'll milk from the aura of their QB . No franchise goes bankrupt by failing to win SBs.
As a phins fan give him like 45 million and ill be happy. Use the facts that we can keep paying guys like waddle or tyreek. Also no state income tax.

Sorry, but if he can't win a division title or playoff game with the roster we've had around him these last 2 years, going on 3, and 5 years total, then why would paying him 50+ million be any better moving forward? Isn't the goal to beat the best teams and win a championship? If you can't do that while he's cheap and with a good roster, then why waste another 3-5 years trying to do it with a worse roster? Waddle, Philips and/or Holland are due big money, too. You can't settle for mediocrity by paying a qb that can't help you get over the hump just because you don't know who the next guy will be. The job of the GM is to bring a championship to Miami, not to just be competitive. Unfortunately, this is a salary cap league. If your qb is making 50+ million, then you can't build the same around him. If we can't even win this division, then why not try and get someone who can give us a shot while still being able to build a good team around him? The team will only get worse talent wise the next 3 years, not better. I'm all for letting this year play out to see if Tua can do it, but if we get the same results and he can't come up in big moments in a contract year, then when will he do it? I love the guy, but this is football related. He's a great face of the franchise and great person. I have nothing bad to say about him, he's a solid qb, just not 50+ million solid. Mahomes or any actual top 5 QB on this team last year, their numbers would have dwarfed Tuas. Real talk 😮
This is what will define tuas career. He has to know he is not on burrow, Herbert and Jackson’s level. Leave some cap room to keep his stats high
Unfortunately, if you want to keep your quarterback you have to pay market rates. Maybe you can get away with 48-49 but probably not. QB's cost money. It's like the stock market. You can't make money with cash. You have to invest it in something. If they didn't like Tua they should've gone after Cousins or trade for picks and get someone this year. They didn't. So they will pay Tua.

You say you can't make money with cash, you have to invest it. That's basically right. You have to invest it in a team and not the QB's role based on a dollar ranking. With some of them it seems to me like a modern-day human trafficking, the highest bidder gets the goods.
not sure if Tua is worth 50mm a year for 5 years but he is def worth 200m + (non guarantee) long term contract. Tua is THE GUY
Anyone suggesting that Tua won't get $50M doesn't understand the market, or the salary cap. Nor do they understand Tua's value.

The NFL makes billions of dollars. And the players are the reason why. So they should get paid a lot.
How much did the highest paid QB Super Bowl-winner make?
I think Tua wouldn't want to hurt the team to fill his pockets. I think it's gonna be a team friendly deal.
Tua only led the NFL in passing last year. He was only top 5 in every important passing category. Has only had 4 straight winning seasons since entering the league and helped lead the team to back to back playoff appearances. All this while playing behind a poor O-Line since entering the league (last year due to injuries on the line). So ya I’m not sure he deserves to get paid. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
He led the league in passing and accuracy.. more wins than losses any other QB this wouldn’t be a conversation!! Pay the man

Yes, Tua has proved himself within the offense because the offense was specifically designed for him. BUT Tua has not proved himself a leader, and has not exhibited the fire to win. So Dolphins should wait till the end of this next season, let Tua prove himself to be a leader and winner before giving him a big contract. It will be a mistake for the Dolphins to commit $$$ now.
3:35 well Rich the NFL wasn't going to allow that😮
With the overvalued qb market he’ll get it, is he worth it, no
The answer is YES!!! It doesn't matter if he is worth it or not. He is their QB and is closing his rookie deal. Either pay him, trade him or draft a replacement. 50 is the price it costs to have a franchise QB. I said this last year and will repeat it. If I was him, I would sit until I get my contract. Why risk any more injuries or concussions. His parents and agent should be telling him the same. No, I am NOT a Tua fan or Miami fan.
Yes, I want to see a 5th year "prove it" for Tua.
No team would pay TUA 45+ millions If the dolphins let him test the free market. He is a good QB but need to be surrounded by really good to elite players and he has shown that he is not capable of winning against playoffs teams.
@benoitwaffle5439
20 күн бұрын
All things can be true. Multiple teams would absolutely offer him more than $50million per, he needs great players around him, and his body of work is not great against playoff teams. Bad QB play gets coaches and GMs fired. If a team can get one without emptying the draft pick arsenal, they will be willing to pay what it takes figuring they can make up the cost by hitting on draft picks and cheap second chance players elsewhere.

@@TheMattTrakker His guarantee is going to be two-to-three years like they all tend to be depending one whether it is a four or five year deal. Tua isn't a perfect QB, but he is either going to get the Goff contract this offseason or Goff+ whatever the cap increase amounts to next.
I guess they're going to have to raise the cap to $ TRILLION
Rich is right. We will know shortly
As long as there is a Brady style QB like Pat Mahomes willing to take less money or at least restructure his deal to be cap friendly ($35 mil over the past few seasons), None of the other guys mentioned in this video will win a Super Bowl. Other teams with a cap friendly QB will win some, but no team paying these guys 40+ or 50+ will win.
Besides following the recent Tik Tok trend and signing QB’s for $50M, there should be no reason why any of these QB’s should be even paid half of that.
As a Dolphins fan, I'm not basing our negotiations on what other teams paid their QBs. Almost all of those big money QB deals turned out to cripple those teams. Murray and Watson are great examples of why Tua should NOT get $45M+/yr
Tua proved he's a franchise QB, and the cost for a franchise QB is $50M+. He's getting Goff money at least. All the Tua critics can cry about it.
In the corporate world are you awarded double your salary by not meeting your goals
I am a dolphin fan and Tua fan but i agree with making him play out his 5th year option. He has proven the haters wrong that he is a good QB. But he is not elite. He is not Burrow
I think Kyler Murray is the best example I feel like he’s in that category. I don’t think he’s better than cousins Watson Allen Mahomes Burrow hurts, etc. not to mention he has every single weapon you want
Doesn’t matter if he is Goff isn’t but that’s the market
The topic sounds like I'm at a QB auction. Who is offering more? Ah, 50 here, 55 the next, oh, there's another offer for 60 million. But there's a team and everyone wants to be paid fairly. Who can still understand these amounts? Ah, there's something else: It's supposed to be the market value.
"I wouldn't have given Joe Burrow all that money either"... bro WHAT? lmaooooo he would be fired as the GM immediately
He's going to put up more numbers than Rogers.

Number don’t matter lol wins do ..
The first $70M per QB is almost certainly already in the NFL. The first $25M per happened in 2017. In 7 years that’s more than doubled. The first $70M per will happen before the end of the decade. Stroud will absolutely be looking at that number if he continues to play up to the level he did as a rookie. If Williams lives up to his hype he’ll be looking for it too.
@benoitwaffle5439

In 2017, the cap was $167 million, and Matthew Stafford led the league at a $27 million salary. With the cap at $255.4 million and projected to go up to $314 million by 2027 (the life of Goff's deal), the QB position is growing faster than league-wide revenue and cap, but not by as much as people think due to the cap surge over the past three years and expected growth over the next few. Also, yes, $70 million per will happen in relatively short order as a result.
If he had started his career on a team that cares about it's players he would have done better I'm sure. Miami owners have a long history of just wanting ppl in seats
I am sure there are a few teams out there willing to pay Tua $50 million. He has a winning record on all games with Miami (more wins than losses), he break records. Last year was his first chance to play in the playoffs and the Dolphins OL was playing with guys that that week they had to call out of retirement. Dolphins started losing their best players on their last 5 games.
