The "Blessed Man Forever" deserves the belt. Max "Blessed" Holloway beating and KOing Justin "The Highlight" Gaethje in the fashion that he did at UFC 300 made the BMF belt more relevant than most people ever thought possible. I'm actually glad Dana made the belt. I was glad that Gaethje & Poirier fought for it, and even moreso glad by the fact the Greatest KO in UFC is what officially won Max this belt and perfectly fitting title of "BMF".

Dude has options, more than most fighters will ever get in their career. He can defend his BMF belt, or chase a title fight in two different divisions. What a career he is having. He's already accomplished so much, and looks like he will continue to pursuing great fights. It is not premature to call Max Holloway a Hall of Famer.

It wasn’t just a KO, so comparing vs other regular KOs even vs a big time opponent…he was an underdog, had the fight won easily, at a time where most would coast to win he invites one of the most dangerous fighters in MMA history to fight in a phone booth in the middle of the ring and then slept him with 1 second left. It was the greatest KO for me.

He had the guy hurt badly since round one, and refused to try and finish him until the last 10 seconds of the fight when he knew Justin didn’t have much left and was stumbling around. I felt so bad for Gaethje for being a warrior in there for 4 rounds after his nose was blown off - it severely limited what he could do (not saying he would have won otherwise just saying it would have been different fight) - that I couldn't really enjoy it for the beautiful moment that it was. I'm a fan of Gaethje like everyone is but he's not my guy. I'm a Poirier-stan and yet I felt worse for Gaethje after that KO vs Max than I did a year earlier when Gaethje blew Poirier's head off with that kick! Also he's older now so how many fights does he have in him. Sad!

I never got the goosebumps watching any other UFC fights. I been watching since renting UFC1 from blockbuster video because we were poor and couldn’t affect PPVs. The event, the title, the meaning of it, the reckless regard and brutality together at once is what makes it the best ever in my honesty opinion. It really doesn’t matter though, just glad this PPV probably just brought in a lot more fans to the sport. This is why we love MMA, anyone willing to step in that octagon is a warrior.

I love shitting on the UFC as much as the next guy, but I have to give them full props for UFC 300. Not having an undeniable, marquee star on the card ended up working out. They put a bunch of star *talent* on the card, gave them the incentive and platform to perform, and did they ever. The fighters knew that not having a guy like Conor on the card meant that they could legitimately earn the lead story coming out of the night, and Max was the guy who went out there and seized the moment.

3:40 Silva doesn't have a BMF moment like that. He had a historic run, but if they made a movie called UFC 300, we would laugh at that script and say that it is so fake. He washed JG out and crusing to a win, then puta him self in the most dangerous position of the fight and slept him.

Gaethje is not one of the most violent fighters we’ve ever seen. Plus Holloway had him hurt badly at the end of the first round and refused to press for the finish until the final 10 seconds when there was an extremely low chance of getting knocked out. Vitor was more dangerous than Gaethje and Silva went for the kill right away when both were still very fresh and dangerous. Forrest was much bigger than Silva was and was completely dispatched. The Chael fight exposed a hole in Silva’s game finally and he still managed to pull a victory right out of the jaws of defeat. It was exciting to see for sure, but it’s not anywhere near the greatest. There’s nothing technical about the way it happened, and if Max was really so brave by doing this then why didn’t he come out in round 2 and do it? Why wait until the last 10 seconds against a guy who has been badly hurt since round 1 ? There have been several knockouts that top this… Francis vs Overeem, Gonzaga vs Crocop, Hendo vs Bisping, Silva vs Belfort, Nunes vs Cyborg, Holm vs Rousey, Rampage vs Wanderlei, Evan’s vs Liddell, Henderson vs Shogun 2, Bigfoot vs Overeem,. Ilia is likley too much for Max but I think Max is the only challenger who can hive him a good fight right now so book it! Gonna be a huge scrap!

I was disheartened that the finish came after TWO vicious eye pokes, to EACH eye, on top of the broken nose. I mean, all credit to Max for making use of that spinning back kick, it's crazy he broke a nose with that. And I know Gaethje tends to dip real low to dodge counters, but I still think it's a bit of a fluke that Max hit his nose. I think Holloway would still win a rematch, but it would go very differently without a freak in jury. And STOP with the damn eye pokes, man.

People are acting like it wasn't max who legally broke Justin's nose. As for the eye pokes, yeah, they weren't cool -- but that shit happens in the sport, and gaethje has eye poked TONS of guys himself. Gaethje got 5 minutes to take each time to recover if he wanted, and he said he was fine..... He had his best round after the pokes, too.

First of all, the "freak injury" you refer to was not a "freak" injury at all. It was a broken nose to damaging strikes that Max purposefully threw at Gaethje in Round 1. Secondly, the eye pokes both happened in Round 2, of a fight that ended almost 20 minutes later. (between-round-resting included) Thirdly, both times Justin was accidentally eye-poked, he only took up to 35 seconds of time to recover before telling the ref he wished to continue. He *Chose* to keep fighting after blinking and wiping his eye. The only other thing I will say on this topic is that in the moments after the second (and worse) eye -poke, I called for a point-deduction. I believe that was the fair call to make, despite the ref not doing so. Plus, that would've kept the clock stopped for another few seconds after Gaethje said he was good to start fighting again. However, with how the rest of the fight transpired, that would've been irrelevant anyway.

Yeah, sooo disheartening! As we were leaving the venue I saw Gaethje with dark sunglasses, a white cane & a tin cup collecting change from passerby’s. Poor guy… casual MF’ers act like these fighters don’t realize that eye pokes are part of the cost of doing business; almost never out of malicious intent; but a flaw in the glove design. If Gaethje shook off the pokes with no complaint; these concern trolls should too … “vicious” eye pokes; gimme a break 😆

Is it fair to say Justin couldn't fight as effectively as he could have if he wasn't poked in both eyes in quick succession? How significant of a factor were those fouls in the grand scheme of the fight?

Eye pokes and broken nose. He really got messed up early. I wonder how he let a little man like max walk him down so much? I’m not a fighter, I’m a software engineer but I’m 6’0” 215lb I’d bulldoze Max like a helpless woman in a fight. I thought Justin was this power house beast? I guess not. Getting walked down by a tattooed skinny skeleton like Max. Oh well.

Just don't allow wrestlers to participate in the BMF belt and it will be a good, relevant, and coveted belt, no matter what Islam says... Having, as Jorge said, someone hugging another man's crotch for most of a fight... isn't going to be that exciting, isn't going to add "prestige" or "value" to the BMF belt...

There's lots more significant, bigger, better moments - the biggest reasons why it wasn't a better moment was that fight was already won and it wasn't for anything anyway. Max was still going to return to featherweight win or lose. No real belt on the line. It could have had more signifigance if Max stayed at 155 and fought Islam in 2 months but he was never going to do that.

It's not necessarily MMA math, but Max's performance warrants his next opponent to try to grapple with him and not strike with him like Justin did. But ultimately it won't prove anything if someone beats but can't outstrike Max
