Tbh, a part from agreeing with all you said, the main point for me is not even the time I save, but the headaches. I once did a hackathon coding in vs code and it got to me that the problem was actually trying to keep track of all files changes and functions. Never had that problem in nvim and never will

Wayland is gettting better every single day so I thought of switching window manger which supports wayland compositors and I know dwl (dwm for wayland) does'nt have alot of patches and it is not from the official dev.Our Choice of chosing window manager for wayland is prettty limited and henceforth I choose qtile as my window manager

Should I dual boot? or just wipe my hard drive and start with linux

  • @pinkSid---

dual boot and transition slowly, u will always have something familiar to fall back on. Learning about partitions isn't that hard and you will NOT fuck up anythign when u dual boot. Although *SLIGHTLY* more complicated, it will smoothen the transition. Just slow down and understand what is happening. I would wish u luck but u will be fine so break a leg lol. Dab on proprietary cucks.

kzread.info/dash/bejne/gJN-usltfa6xebw.html Ok first don't worry about linux, focus on changing the programs you use. Word>Latex. IDE's>vim. Excel>R/pythonPandas. You get the gist. Find use cases for your computer, and figure out how to do them minimally. Then dual boot mint and start using Vim and latex. I made a video called linux roadmap where I describe a rough gradual progress. Mindset wise focus on UNDERSTANDING, this means READING things. Actually know what is happening, then make your own desicions about how u want to do it. Do this gradually and step by step, it will be easier that way. You can always dual boot, even I keep windows for exam proctor softwares... :(( Good luck and remember learning is till death. Thanks for your comment

I don't want to be associated with the woke and especially not the troons. So I left for OpenBSD. Anyway, chatgpt gets way too much stuff wrong. It's great when you just have to look something up you forgot, but I wouldn't trust it without checking the man page first. Never heard of this Zathura though and I left Windows when 7 came out. Definitely gonna check that out. Right now I'm doing pdfgrep, so I don't have to leave the terminal. Though that might not be an option if you need the pictures.

Lol man changes OS. Yeah Linux is just a kernel, it is really about command line tools (GNU part). Chatgpt is retarded, but it can write a lot of useful stuff and actually help out sometimes. But knowing how to troubleshoot yourself IS necessary. Zathura is magic, seriously go check it out. Thanks for your comment.

@@pinkSid--- Nope, Time ??? With Linux on desktop you use it if you do not value your time. Your workflow is not that important if you want to daily drive a Linux desktop. All it takes is a driver somewhere on some app or some package that is slightly not fully compatible and now you need to spend countless hours on toxic Linux forums trying to figure it out. All the while fighting other Linux elitist and telling you how stupid you are. Yeah it is a personal choice. But when it comes to real world WORK like to actually make money. Linux on desktop is more of an ego thing then anything else. Now Linux on server is a godsend and the greatest thing to happen in computing....

@@romangeneral23 If you are not capable to even understand basic stuff clearly explained in the installation guide, without needing to ask anyone in the community, then the problem is the fact that you just don't have the damn common sense of following something so simple, I mean c'mon, you don't need to go for Arch or Gentoo, just take Mint, click some next buttons and you're done. If you aren't even capable of doing that just return to your cave and let Microsoft to watch every single movement you do. I will not even explain further since you aren't going to understand anything at this point. If you understood the power of Linux, it's advantages, the efficiency of it, you would not say this bullshit, you are so inexpert. Don't talk about stuff you don't comprehend. Linux is worth in every single think you can think of, and if you are not capable of thinking, then it's your problem. Install a package, just type in along side with the commando and done. Can't find it? well then just play with name-spacing, is it that hard? can't you comprehend that? Then don't say bullshit if you are clearly the one who is not capable of doing this basic stuff. Is because people like you the reason why the year of the Linux Desktop hasn't happened. If people could understand this, nobody would use the scum of proprietary garbage that winblows is. So, please. don't say stuff that you clearly are not capable of comprehend. My solution? Install Gentoo. If you can't, then gfys. I use Gentoo btw.

@@romangeneral23 A big portion of software developers run linux as their main operating system, that by itself speaks largely on how linux can make your experience and workflow specialize to your needs, getting use to the command line and getting use to fixing those issues you mentioned may be pretty time consuming but that's valuable learning as a developer. Depending on the issue that you're running into will maybe take some time to fix that said issue but hours is a bit hyperbolic. Personally for my first linux experience I had a hard time trying to install nvidia proprietary drivers but learning all these skills in the command line and linux in general has helped my knowledge in being a developer and learning more about system files and how the OS operates which I think is pretty valuable information. If you run windows, MacOS, or Linux thats your personal choice, and any one of those OS's can get the job done. Linux has a steep learning curve for a reason, its meant to be highly customizable and not as fixed as the other OS's. In the end it doesn't matter what OS you use since on any operating system you can run vscode and send things to github no problem and do the things you need to for a job since Linux has evolved over the years to be more compatible with certain softwares.
