I don’t believe she worked on this book for ten days let alone ten years lol

i'm so tired of the recent trend of marketing books based only on tropes like who actually buys a book based on that and not on the actual plot summary

FR LIKE "it has enemies to lovers" is SUCH A BIG DRAW FOR PEOPLE ITS CRAZY what about plot 🥲

@@wargodest I've been working on my WIP for the last 15 years almost (started as a freshman in high school, and yes, the first couple drafts were pretty cringe, lol). It's gone through nearly a dozen rewrites (at least it feels like it has) and I only recently changed the relationship for the two MCs from insta-love (I was 15, okay?) to enemies to lovers. But it's also been many late nights and hundreds of scribbles in notebooks just to make sure the plot and story work for it. Sticky notes have covered my desk, poster boards, and even walls at one point (my husband has learned to deal with this over the years and no longer questions my sanity). The story can't just ride off the trope; there *has* to be something there for the story/plot to keep it going for them. But yeah, authors who rely more on tropes to get readers, instead of actual sustenance to get readers, are frustrating. Especially when you have someone ask about your WIP and you explain it to them, and they just say, "Oh, *another* enemies to lovers," without hearing the rest of it 🙃

@@vintageincolor it really is. They'll read anything so long as it has those few tropes they love, regardless of how poorly written it is or if the plot even makes sense (or exists to begin with) 🙄

It comes from the popularity and growth of fanfiction. You choose fics based on tropes you want to see your favorite pairings go through, it's now gone mainstream.
This book is a "thing". It's a runny, yolky, cliffy thing without any depth or meaning. Nevertheless, it's a "thing" that exists 😂
I legit thought Oro was secretly her father for most of the book and then I realized Alex was hinting at a romantic connection and I was GROSSED OUT thinking she was pulling a Cassie Claire false incest trope but NOPE they’re not related he’s just OLD
A protaganist from the realm of people that die by 25 would have been INFINITELY more interesting than the stupid Wilding shit.
She may have had the idea floating around in her head for ten years, but I doubt very much she actually worked on this for ten years. It reads very much like a first or second draft. You know, that draft when you're just trying to get down ideas and get an understanding for what you want your story to be. It's a shame so many newer and/or indie authors don't understand this is why books need more than one draft before publishing. Plot holes, flat characters, placeholder names for things that sound ridiculous/childish, poorly written relationships, horrible world building, telling instead of showing, and so forth.
I really love this style of reviewing. It feels like we're friends talking smack about a particular book which is my favorite way of learning about books
I'd ship Celeste and Isla, just for the chaos (and wouldn't that fulfill the villain gets the girl even better ?)
Good writing doesn’t sell books, good marketing does.

I haven’t read it and I don’t plan to but I’m going to consider Isla’s alleged BBL canon now.

Eugene Levi (Schitt's Creek dad) popped into my head, but Ben works too. 😆
The „Isla“ and she is from an island reminds me of Parisa from The Atlas Six who lives/gets picked up by Atlas in Paris and that name choice already made me loose braincells.
Omg like if you are going to write a book, write it, publish it, then hype it. If you do it in any other order then You are hyping something that doesn’t yet exist (at least not in the form it will be presented to the readers who purchase your work) and to me that’s just not right.

But that’s not how publishing works. Seriously. We start hyping our books 6-9 months before they’re released. I’ve been asked to start promoting my books when the first draft wasn’t even finished yet. I don’t think that’s something you can blame authors for.
I don't have tiktok so I had no idea it how serious people are when it comes to "book drama" its kinda funny .. your videos are so entertaining!
I so hoped that you'd make a video about Lightlark after all of the controversy. Thank you for making my evening 🤩
lol I’ve never even heard of this book before so her little ad campaign was less successful than your video for informing me about it 😂 keep up the great work, love your videos.
your videos make my day 😭
a princess who lives in a island is named Isla Crown... I tought my ideas for names wery lazy
For the part about naming things: i really love it when authors mix words from other languages to name a particular thing. Like what JK rowling did for alot of the spells in Harry Potter.
As soon as I saw you were going to read this book I was waiting for this video🤩 love your content

Same!
Everything I’ve heard about this book it really feels like a bad first draft but everyone involved with production (mostly the author and editor) cared more about capitalizing on the tiktok viral moment and taking in $ than actually making something good.
I'm infactuated by your personality, love your videos

Oh yes! Rip and tear this book a part!
Your reviews are great! Will you be reading the second book?
omg ur so entertaining
I've never actually laughed out loud as much as I did with a reviewers comments before
Ich liebe das Level an Agressionen gegenüber dem Buch, dass ist schon maximal unterhaltsam. Sehr gutes Video, ich werde dieses Buch jetzt definitiv nicht lesen :))
ok so I have the book, haven't read it yet but now I wanna just to truly understand how bad it is, but random thought - for example, with the moon kingdom or whatever and the sea killing them, I feel like it could have been more interesting if part of the curse is that they were inextricably drawn to it because otherwise.... there's no stakes ya know? just gonna jot that down for myself maybe I'll use the "people drawn to something dangerous" in my own book I'm working on haha
This felt so validating 😂😂 I read half of it and then I had to stop, it was just so bad.
Love your stuff! But im curious, what is your accent/native language? Keep up the videos I adore ranting about bad books I will never read!

Now I need SJMs next protagonist to get a BBL 😫
Lmaoo I can't, every single plot point seems to have been stolen from some other YA book and then done even worse, there's Acotar, Throne of Glass, Harry potter, Shatter Me..

"We needed a black character and and a gay character, and then he's never seen again." The Starling Lord? Maybe he was 24 year,11 months and twenty-eight days old? 😆🤔 Wow. They're getting really good at hiding the "kill your gays" trope. Naah, the books is too much of a mess to be that sneaky.
How did I miss this, I literally asked a couple weeks ago. 😭
i love your accent (hope this doesn't come off weird), where are you from?

This book is an island of plot holes 😅
Isla is island in spanish.
I'd love you to review my adult urban fantasy novel The Fleshmarket Vampire. At the same time you absolutely terrify me lol. Great video x
The crazy thing is your explanation makes the book more confusing and I’m 100% sure that it’s not your fault. The book just sounds horrible
Странно, а говорили мне что книга хорошая..... Скоро выйдет перевод, наверняка будет шумихи,столько же, как с Мары и Мороком
“ this is acotar meets hunger games” don’t she fucking dare insult acotar with this trash lol
I like the book truly don’t understand why anyone has to call it bad if you don’t like it say that but don’t say it’s bad cause it’s not your cup of tea
