My go to supermarkets are Costco and Aldi. Melbourne is now Australia's largest city. Other major differences are, Salaries are generally higher in Australia, you get more public holidays in VIC than any other state, houses are much larger in AUS than in the UK and we don't get Seasonal affective disorder down under. Our trains are air conditioned and classicism isn't a thing in Australia either. Yes, it can be expensive to travel, but Asia is close by and is very cheap for us Aussies. I honestly enjoy travelling Asia far more than Europe. In Europe, you either get a pompous French person that doesn't like the fact that you do not speak their language or having to keep guard of your phone so it doesn't get stolen, or a combo of both. In Asia, I get treated like royalty and people are so polite and respectful. Most capital cities in Asia are also very safe.

Kylie was NEVER hated. We poked fun at her - called her the 'singing budgie' - but she has a huge Aussie fan base. Aldi is a big supermarket player these days too, in additional to Coles and Woollies and IGA is everywhere too. Your comments about the Voice were offensive and ignorant to be honest. I voted Yes, but that vote failed because of many complex reasons - being a backward country was not one of them. In my state of Tasmania, the local Aboriginal community lobbied for a No vote. Best not to comment if you don't know the facts or understand the nuances. I know London well so I understand the costs there. I find your views surprising - I think you've been away from Australia too long to be commenting. A lot has changed in the last five years, in both Australia and the UK.

Minogue was denigrated widely in Australia . The commentator is correct . Roasts and sausage rolls and pies are not all that popular . When I was teaching one of the few meals that all kids ate at home were stir fries . Pot noodles are massively popular as is pizza . The old british favourites pies pasties roasts tend to be eaten more by . Older Aussies . In my state Foodland is more common than Coles or Woolworths . Drakes are as common .

Was really interested to hear this from the perspective of an Australian living in the UK. A lot of my fellow Brits love to talk big about how they are going to move abroad (and then never do), but as one of the few who said "this sucks, I'm leaving" and then left and then came back I can say that we have it pretty good in the UK. Like, better than most Brits imagine. It's also not that much more expensive than comparable modern economically developed countries are. Some things here are more expensive and other things are cheaper, but it tends to balance out accross the board. What we have is OPTIONS - a cheap option, a mid range and an expensive option, so if you chose to shop cheaply here you can quite easily. One thing I learned is that Brits are kind of weird... sorry, we just are guys. If you ever make it over the pond, you'll find out what I mean...

Yep, She confused me a bit there. To me Aussie and Brit pies are almost identical. Pork pies are a different category of pie. As far as pies compare, I think UK pies have a higher meat content with less gravy. Aussies have different option like potato topped pies. Budget pies taste better in the UK but gourmet pis are en par with each other.

Sydney to Ningaloo will use the same amount of aviation fuel as any other flight of the same distance. That’s why transport costs within Oz are so high. Even if it’s the same country, it is like travelling from the UK to Eastern Europe. Weird to compare travelling between places that are clumped together, with a vast island continent, and whinge about obvious incomparable features.

Yvette, both types of rugby are played in both countries. Historically Rugby Union in the UK was played by mid-upper class boys/men who attended grammar and public schools, and was always played by amateurs (who had other paying jobs) at club and national level. It's a tough game on the pitch, but supported by those from that background. Rugby League developed in the industrial North of England and was a faster-moving game, played by working men and is followed with the same passion as football (another 'working mans' game) where people could be paid professionals. There's mutual respect and competitiveness between the UK with Australia's Union and League teams. FYI - so many other sports are popular here in the UK - golf, hockey, sailing, athletics, rowing, motorsport, equestrian, horse-racing, swimming, cycling, and various bike-related, and the indoor ones e.g. darts, snooker, pool. Even winterports including skiing and snowboarding are popular.

Before hearing your explanation Yvette about the origins of Vegemite, I thought it looked similar to Marmite. It is a bit salty but it’s nice on occasions, spread on wholemeal toast with tomatoes to offset the salty taste of Marmite. My brother in laws sister moved reluctantly to Australia 10 yrs ago, they live in Perth. And when she visited the U.K. recently, I asked her would you like to move back to the U.K. She said she wants to but her husband and son are happy living in Australia, and she said she couldn’t afford to move back to the U.K. as well. I think both countries have their pluses and minuses. I’m a Brit and I think some of us slate the U.K., when they say, they’d like to move abroad, thinking the grass is always greener on the other side. But I think life in U.K. isn’t bad. Yes it has its problems, but so do many countries. On the upside, living in close proximity with mainland Europe, when the weather gets you down sometimes, you can take a short flight to Portugal, Spain or Greece for warmer weather, or visit other European countries for culture enriching experiences.

Australia and Canada share many similarities compared to the UK. Huge country -- more expensive to travel within the country than to Europe for example. Also -- the 'tall poppy' syndrome applies to us as well. We will put our own people down sometimes unless they make it big in the US and are recognized and then are welcomed back though this is changing. In the past, we would compare ourselves with the UK as a colonial country but more so with the US in the past century Inferiority complex I guess. Cheers from Canada.

Central market in Adelaide and Queen Victoria market in Melbourne have the best food produce that I have experienced. Seafood in Australia is second to none. Greek food In Melbourne (Oakleigh) is excellent as for Italian and Asian food it’s by far better than the U.K. due to the produce being a lot fresher. That includes sushi. Yum yum. Australia also has the equivalent of the pound shop, Two dollar shop. Wine, wine, wine need I say more. Wages in Australia on an average are a lot higher. My daughter works as a nurse in one of London’s major hospitals and earns approximately £28,000 a year. She has been offered the same job in a Melbourne hospital, her start off salary is $100,000 a year. Just a few more advantages to living in Australia.

Little Australia has moved south, it was Earls Court when I lived there in the 70's. Clapham, well Clapham Village was a tad too expensive then although the edges with Battersea, Balham and Wandsworth were cheaper. Both Rugby League and Union are played in the UK, League mainly 'up north' where it originated as the sports organisers/governing body wouldn't accept professional players then. Union was wholly amateur until very recent in its history. it was the same with Cricket and Players (paid) and Gentlemen (upper class amateur) and often the batsmen, players being the bowlers, all on the same National team. Aussie Rules is very similar to Gaelic Football and is now an International Rules Game played between Ireland and Australia, many Irish footballers go over to Australia to play Aussie Rules.

Very interesting video. Although there is one topic that most Brits living in Australia (the flip side) add that you have not, and that is weather. It's something money cannot buy, and most Europeans living in Australia say it's both a game and mood changer. With regards to groceries, not sure how the UK does it. Yes, the Coles and Woolworths duopoly is well known at screwing customers. But even on a UK, US comparison, the UK is significantly cheaper. Actually in many cases, the UK is considered to be the cheapest for groceries by a large margin, anywhere in the developed world. But I would argue you have two elements incorrect in your video when it comes to prices. Cars.... Cars are significantly more expensive in the UK. It is worth noting though, that the UK is what I call an option sensitive country rather than a price sensitive one. Most brands will ensure cars are well specified (albeit with smaller, Euro friendly engines than available in Australia/US). People in the UK will usually spec up, and pay up. Brands know this. Australia sits 1/2 between this and the US, which has tended to be cost sensitive rather than option sensitive. This price variance occurs at all levels of car. But for arguments sake the exact same model basic hybrid Corolla is £17,000 pounds all inclusive in Australia, £18,000 pounds all inclusive in the US and £30,000 pounds in the UK. Up at the higher end, a top spec KIA EV9 is £70,000 in the US, £73,000 in Australia and £78,000 in the UK. --- The other is public transport. The UK has been tremendously good at selling off to every private company possible (sadly something that was a copied lesson in Sydney). But it's led to public transport in London being well known as the world's most expensive city for public transport. A good view of this is www.picodi.com/uk/bargain-hunting/public-transport-2023 This is made worse by the five year price hold coming off. That said, I am a massive fan of Londons transport network. Sydney's hub and spoke model is a mistake common in many cities of the world. The only city I would say that makes London's network look underwhelming and way overpriced is Tokyo, which has a network is made up of 48 systems, 4000 odd stations (over 6.5 times as many railway stations and the trains and tube combined), and does so more affordably. (Yeah, sorry Sydney does not come close in either comparison.....)

I'm 68 and all of my life I've heard how bad the UK is. Like all countries we go through good and bad patches. Like everyone in the West we've currently got one or two problems but the great thing is we always work through them and choose the right long term solutions. See how we're currently working through the trans issue. I'm not so sure of the future in other countries which seem to be having extreme problems. I've read the history of the UK over the period of my life and the actuality of what happened wasn't as I was led to believe as I lived it so the answer is ignore the lying media, they hate you and don't trust them.

I hate how people compare UK to Australia . Leave these two countries alone . Every country has good and bad points . Just live your life to the fullest . This lady has been out of Australia for sone time now and she does nit know what is going on . We do have nice restaurant food in Australia . If you look you will find . Both countries are expensive now , especially after Covid . You get 4 weeks holiday . Christmas break is a public holiday . Sydney transport system is being updated and we will be having trains every three minutes . Please appreciate both countries, as no country is perfect . Thank you !

I did have a laugh with an Aussie over a few tinnies, I asked why Australia gives us crap llike home and away and neighbours. he said we gave him Cricket and were no good at it. ha ha I said thats a fair point. even stevens. lol
