Born in Redruth Hospital and lived in and around Camborne and Redruth all my life until moving to Wiltshire in 2006, I was 53 when we moved. I played on Carn Brea with my friends in the 60's it was our local playground. I also went to Redruth County Grammar School. I was married in St Euny in 1973.

I could see the Bassett Monument from my bedroon window in Carbis Bay when I was on holiday last week. Francis Bassett features as a character in series 3 & 4 of Poldark.

Lovely, with history, geography, giggles & gorgeous views, rain or shine!

Love this, I lived in Redruth in the early 70’s, until we moved to Park Bottom to “Castle view” with a view to Carn Brea. So many memories. So glad I found your channel. I live in the frozen north now and so miss home.

Redruth is my hometown

My Great Grandmother was born in Redruth. Thank you for being there.

Many thanks for the video. Found it very interesting, having been born in Redruth and revisited quite a few times, from my home in Australia. Enjoyed the views from the Carn, which were very extensive and quite invigorating on a cold, windy day. On my first return home in 1969 I recall walking along the railway with my late uncle, who was a ganger with British Rail, over his length from Redruth to Penponds, quite impressive walking across the viaduct there, and through Pool and Camborne with Carn Brea looming over us for most of the way. The area of course has an extensive history of mining and railway development, the benefits of which along with many miners and families were exported world-wide. Yes there was wealth in the area reflected in the impressive buildings, but unfortunately for the men and their families who actually produced the tin life was extremely hard, and many succumbed to the harsh conditions they had to endure, and died at a very young age. Frequent industrial accidents and poor air quality along with the presence of arsenic took their toll. As the mines gradually wound down, many sought a life overseas where generally conditions were better. BTW I think you'll find that the village name is pronounced Carn-key. Must watch more of your videos in my spare time, they're very well done!

A lovely route! I mapped out my own route before thinking to check to see if you had one. Thank God I did, because the one I'd created would've killed us! This is a really nice route because it makes sure that the way to the top isn't too tough, (and goes through some lovely, interesting places) but comes back via a more direct route. Thanks for this!

Redruth, what a wonderful overview of the amazing history & wealth of this Mining & Market Town in days gone bye. We are still laughing at the ‘out takes’ Redruth has some fantastic architecture and I so agree with you, look up at some of the buildings and compare the town now to some of the pictures found in old books and you will see no change. Carn Brea, always to locals landmark & answer to the words “are we nearly there yet?” Wonderful, I so enjoyed this....well done AGAIN.

We were only in Redruth on Tuesday. Fascinating place, with hidden gems around alot of corners. Heading up to the monument today.

We had a great time exploring Carn Brea, and maybe we will go back for a town trail sometime as Redruth looks so interesting, Sarah :)

I laughed so hard at the outtakes. Love your walks like this they are a Cornish history lesson for me. Andrew I really think you should have submerged your self in that spring. Lol.

Definitely a 10/10...fantastic walk! Some amazing town & industrial architecture, and loved St Euny Church, the Monument and Castle at Carn Brea. So enjoy your showcasing Cornish history and, as you say - look above eye-level, and there it is just waiting to be seen. This is a must-do, next time I'm in Cornwall. Also, loved the outtake! (had me going as well)😊

I remember, years and years ago, going into the room underneath the monument on Carn Brea (the padlock had been sawn off). Inside, in the centre of the room, a pentangle had been laid out in salt. Heaven only knows what had gone on in there, but it gave me nightmares for weeks! 🧙‍♀️🧙‍♂️🧙‍♀️

Great video as usual. Made a commented on Alex Belsfield KZread channel. Talking about rubbish Christmas TV. I suggested they look at CWT for nice things to watch!!!!

I did enjoy this one! You two have such a good sense of humour on all your walks....and always with your faithful doggy by your side. He is an absolute delight. I'd love to know what his name is, but I know why you never mention it. And Andrew getting slimed in the Holy Well :-))! I have never been up to Carn Brea, but think I went to St. Euny church in my Cornwall past...I definitely went to Carn Euny...the old stone village down that way in Penwith, which was mystical and atmospheric. The ancient wells and sites of Cornwall are always a treat to discover....Madron Holy well is another favourite tucked away in the depths with ribbons blowing in the breeze from the trees. Always nice to see your Friday vids...cheers me up. J x

We have flirted with a trip to Madron Holy well. I think Andrew was trying to devise a walk from Mousehole or something but on our rekky, one of the footpaths we were going to use was so overgrown, we abandoned the idea. Perhaps we should pick it up again.... Sarah :)

@@CornishWalkingTrails Yeah, it can be very overgrown down that way....& if I remember rightly we ended up covered in mud where the path had been waterlogged! But to see the ribbons from the trees and the little floral offerings at the well tucked away in the depths of the Cornish landscape shows that a lot of other people are as determined to get there as we were!! I think I have visited every Holy Well there is in Cornwall! I love the mystery and magic and folklore of the far South West!...Have you ever visited Tanglewood? Such a hidden special delight.... x J

"Bridle wee" and you said it in a church yard. Freud would have an explanation for that 😂😂😂😂😂

Very interesting video. The graveyard was huge, sad it was so overgrown. Castle was amazing how it was propped up with boulders. Never seen anything like that. I was waiting for Andrew to fall in the water shenanigan's! The dogs face was a picture on the steps, so fed up lol, when are we going to the beach mum !! Thank you for another nice video :-)

@@CornishWalkingTrails He was so good bless him just lying there waiting and you are right, nice for him to rest a while, especially on a 6 mile walk. We only see 30 minutes and don't really understand how much time it takes you to make these videos. The virtual walk must be so tiring because the camera is so steady always wondered how you do that. Interesting fact about Fleetwood Mac too that i didn't know, my era always liked Stevie Nicks. I meant to say your artwork video was lovely and you are so talented. One of my favourite videos was when all those young cows followed you. I am quite scared of cows i will be honest, incident as a child, reluctant to go into fields where they are as they can be quite aggressive and get spooked quite easily by dogs. I am sure i remember a video you did where the cows were all standing at the bridge and you decided to go up the field instead then couldn't get out! On another walk a loose cow in the lane. It makes you smile when you watch these things but not for you at the time. Thank you for your kind reply. :-

As always, a wonderful video and a great hike. I liked the castle best. This is only found in Cornwall a few stones stacked and a small castle built on it. Just perfect. Is the castle inhabited? The view is great which is an absolute highlight for your next Cornwall vacation. Thank you for showing us the beautiful corners of Cornwall. Re: the change of spelling if St uny: in my recent video “cross country run” with local historian Steve Williams, we had the same issue with multiple spellings of a Lane we walked down. He explained that back in the 1800s, the people who kept records mentioning place names, tried to show off their literacy by spelling the same names as many different ways they could phonetically. This, Steve says is why old records and maps have multiple different spellings for the same place names.
