This one actually is. I passed on the 1st Maul all this time because it never looked like Ray Park to me. When the likeness isnt there these items look downright toyish instead of highend art pieces. These new sculpts are amazingly perfect! Im a OT guy but this Maul is on my shelf day 1!

I'm finally rewarded for my patience. Been wanting to get a TPM maul for a while now and I've delayed pulling the trigger on a DX17. Never been happier for an announcement. This is 100% worth the price even if you have the older version imo, but maybe just the one without the speeder if you already have the old speeder.

I've only had that happen once and it's a phenomenal feeling when patience is rewarded. Congrats on the announcement! It really is a far better release than it's predecessor in a lot of ways. @@iBeatBoxz8 Sure the original was great, but I feel like there is a big enough improvement to warrant an upgrade. At least for me being a huge fan of Maul, I'd want the best representation of him, and this is it.

AGREED! I wish the movie was received better when it released. I was looking forward to the next installment specifically for Maul. Here's hoping we see him later on in live action again!

I missed the original one so Im so happy I don't need to pay eBay prices for it. This will be coming home.

Congrats on the announcement! Any time we don't have to pay eBay prices, that's a huge win.

The speeder from the previous release does have a light up dash. I took mine out the other day to check exactly that as I have seen a few reviewers say it's only a sticker. Just get dummy batteries and usb mode for the old speeder if you are worred about that and save the extra $$$. The headsculpt is a worthy upgrade.

This is a no-brainer for me. I waited so long to get the DX-17 but when I did, I was a little disappointed because the Sideshow Theed Hangar Duel Maul had a superior headscuplt. Maul is one of my favorite characters so I will display both in different. The DX-17 robed and hiding the flawed headsculpt and the 2.0 unrobed and replicating the unrobed "Duel of Fates' look.

Dang, that sucks. I've never owned the Sideshow version, but I do like the look of the portrait design. I've never had a fun time with any of the Sideshow figures I've had though. That's a great idea though hiding the other portrait in the newer robe! 🔥

I have both the original and the Solo version and I was planning on selling one of them but realized, you can use the new head sculpt(s) on the original body and solo body so you can display multiple looks at one time! I definitely plan on getting this!

I hope so! If they can manage portrait swap outs with Luke Skywalker, they can for sure swing it with Maul. It would make it that much better to use one of the extra portraits for a figure like Clone Wars Maul. A LOT of potential! 😄

I get being conflicted on this one, I’m in the same quandary tbh!! I don’t think I need the Bloodfin again as it looks the same to me other than it’s usb powered instead of battery. I wasn’t even sure the sculpt was all that different until we see the side by side and I think that’s the push I need. Just whether to get the standard or deluxe 🤔 Great vid again mate 👊🏻

Ah, we are in the same boat. The only difference is the vehicle, but like you pointed out, it definitely isn't needed. I wonder if the packaging will vary between the two. This is THE Maul, the definitive Maul, IMO. As an owner of the DX16, there was no question once they showed the sculpt upgrades and other minor changes that I was getting this one. For me, not only does he have one of the best story arcs in Star Wars, he is just too cool not to have the best iteration of him in my collection. I believe he is likely one of the most recognizable characters in SW, as well. Hoping you pick this one up!! (and a review for us all to watch haha)

@Boston Collectors - Hey there bruddah Johnathan, I missed out on Hot Toys' 1st iteration of the Maul/Bike set. Personally, I feel very fortunate in per-ordering the figure/vehicle set! IMHO I believe 2.0's are coming with upgrades applicable i.e., P.E.R.S, updated paint applications, rooted hair. Plus there are so many Star Wars characters, both classic and extended Star Wars universes that Hot Toys has never even touched. It's simply mind-blowing for Hot Toys, Star Wars, and the collecting community worldwide! And with the Dark-Side theme of Star Wars that Howard is exploring. There's no telling what he has in store for us Star Wars collectors. All I can say is, 'Hole onto your butt cheeks and wallets because we're in for a ride to a galaxy far, far away...' Heya! It's been a long while, hope all is well. Congrats on the 2.0 announcement, it's a great time for collectors who either passed on the original or wasn't around for it. I'm happy for you all! I just wish they would do more for lines like The Phantom Menace rather than redoing the same thing. Padawan Kenobi, Jar Jar, Lord Sidious, Tan B1 Droids, Aura Sing, Plo Koon, Ki-Adi Mundi, Depa Billaba... The list goes on. But, we'll more than likely see Qui-Gon again and maybe Padawan Kenobi at some point. The dark side line is looking REALLY expensive, it's swallowing us up! This release was certainly a surprise, but all we can do is make educated guesses but Hot Toys surprises us all the time. It's certainly a welcomed one and it gives people a chance to get one of the great Maul versions, especially compared to the last one

For me it’s definitely worth it, that upgraded head sculpt is leagues better. I had the standard version for the dx16 so will upgrade for the deluxe this time around. If I had the speeder though I would get the standard as that looks pretty much the same. Great video as always :)

I have to give it to them, it really is a lot better than the previous release. The best way I can write up the DX17 for my collection is having him act as a younger version of himself before the glow up. I have yet to preorder though. That intro 😂 While this release looks great and I’m glad people who want the OG Maul can get an updated version, I would have preferred something new. I’m just hoping this isn’t the only TPM release that’s part of the anniversary 😳

I had one maul but I had to sell it, I haven't stopped regretting it since so when I saw this release it was a quick pre-order and I have had sweet dreams every night since. I know that I’ve done the purchase of the year.

You should buy the one without the speeder so you can have one figure engaged with the speeder and the other standing menacingly. That’s what I would do! Thanks for the video. Love these in depth walk throughs

I’ll be honest… I have Solo Maul and I feel like that is the definitive version of the character in sixth scale form. The detailing on the legs is amazing and the headsculpt is top notch. I may be interested in this one for the sculpt alone, but I would have no desire for the speeder.

I REALLY love Solo Maul. He's tied with DX17 for me, but they really put their all into that release. The chair, the legs... Absolutely love it. Not to mention, compared to The Phantom Menace portrait, this is a great look from his younger self to an older iteration of the character.

This one is much better than the dx16/17 super glad I sold it a few years ago it never really looked like Ray Park. I still have my sideshow Naboo one but this one is even better than that so def a PO

Any decision changes after a day? I'm still sitting on thinking about it myself. The Dark Empire Luke isn't for me, but my wife wanted him. She joined the queue and ranked somewhere in the upper thousand area. Meanwhile I join and I'm 136th in line. Wish it were that low for Anakin. Hopefully you get lucky and have a conversion come through!

Hey brother, love your videos man. Ive got the previous version, and i know that feeling about confliction lol. Im hoping when they release the 2.0, that you could just pick up the headsculpt off ebay or elsewhere, but being that the wife gifted it to you, i would keep it as it may have a sentimental value for yourself. My wife gifted me a civil war war machine (war machine is my fav marvel character), and i never sold it or traded it, nor will I ever. Its the only hot toys she's gifted me, so to me it has sentimental value 😊. But to each their own, its up to you. Save the extra money for newer release figures.

Glad to hear you enjoy the content, thank you for watching! The only thing about the portraits on other platform is pricing. For example, Toy Anxiety and Monkey Depot sell them for $99 each to start. Since he come with 2, that's almost a whole figure release. I had the same thought as you and I also wanted to update mine to the USB hilts. After I crunched the numbers, that was dead to the wind, lol! I could never pass mine along which is why it's such a hard decision. I don't want to under value such a thoughtful gift with a major upgrade either. Like you said though, to each their own though and I don't frown upon people who choose to pass theirs along. ❤️ Talk about a heck of a predicament to be in. 😭

Nice updated figure, would have great shelf presence, but not totally sure I want to collect Episode 1. Definitely don't want the speeder, would just a space hog hunk of plastic for me.

It would have a great amount of presence for sure, I agree. The speeder is rather niche and it's best suited for one moment as we all know. Probably better to recommend the $285 version of him instead.

Having the CW Maul - we agree it’s the worst iteration - I’m not sure that I NEED this. I definitely want it. I can’t afford to have more than 1 Maul in my collection so I’m going to wait a little while and see where I end up down the road but this is an absolute upgrade. I didn’t know how much the original figure could be improved upon. CW Maul that goes better with other figures (Sidious, Ahsoka, 332nd Trooper) just to name a few or TPM Darth Maul that, at this point, doesn’t have a whole lot of companion pieces. Hard choice.

Hahaha, yeah, we can definitely agree there! Although, I hate to dump on it for collectors who love him. Sometimes it's the representation of the character that matters rather than any iteration of them, so I get it 100%. If anything, I'm wondering if the portrait would look cool with the CW Maul as a swap around. Because like you said, the TPM version is... rather limited in terms of where he belongs. I still haven't made a jump, but if you want a REALLY good Maul... this is your guy. I'd watch the hell out of that review if you did one. 😂

I have DX17 and already preordered this one with the Sith Speeder. Looks too good to pass up.

I got a second body for my DX17 fairly recently... I'll get the standard version for this since I already have the bloodfin. Where to stick a third TPM maul though...

OOF! That second body forr the extra portrait is huge. - If you have Qui-Gon, one could fight him. - The second could be in a stoic pose. - The third you might end up having to wait on Padawan Kenobi. It's a lot of options though, he could work with Palpatine as well.

For me I see this as an opportunity to find the dx16 at a bargain and then later pick up the new head sculpts separately down the line. No doubt I’ll be able to find them sold on eBay by themselves!

Sounds like a solid plan! Especially if you can find them at a bargain. More than likely the portraits will run you about $100 each later, but upgrading the hilts would be great too. Add Toy Anxiety and Monkey Depot to your list! 😄

Honestly I get why people would find this release annoying or unnecessary however it gives new collectors a chance to get the figures they want without having to spend more money or buy it used.

I'd only call it "annoying" because there are so many other characters Hot Toys could make from The Phantom Menace rather than making a 2.0 version of something that isn't that old. I wouldn't say it was "unnecessary" either, but it makes sense in a way due to the anniversary. While I don't have an issue with 2.0's, if Hot Toys continued this way, we'd have 2.0's every other year because other collectors missed out.

New threads look like they layer proper / Maul's hood action is important & looks to fit in a more natural way. Count me in .............would be a huge plus if knees and elbows are ratcheted. Had the original on pre-order cancelled due to the way the hood looked when pulled up cut over to Solo Maul which I think to this date is the best and picked up the Clone Wars Maul. Patience sucks but seemed to pay off here.

Agreed! It's already a massive plus if they nail the robe, because the one I have from before never left the packaging after I tried. Now that you mention it, ratcheted joints would be incredible! I mentioned this earlier with someone else, but Solo Maul is still one of the best releases of that character ever. Tough to say which is better between DX17 & Solo Maul, but this one JUST might edge Solo Maul depending on the final product. Patience paid off and I'm happy you're able to secure this one! 🙌🏼

You are incorrect on the OG sith speeder (bloodfin) , the front console lights up, and the battery is inserted by removing a side panel located near the back.

Hot toys could have just released a new headsculpt set for those who have the oeiginal. This is def a cash grab. That said, i may snag the ex sans speeder and have a maul on apeeder with robe and one without

As someone who ordered a coin edition. The coins are so fuckin dumb. LoL But I couldn’t see any reason to not get the version with extra bits at the same price.

Get one without the speeder. Easier pill to swallow if you already have the first one. You can keep the old speeder and give away the figure.

I doubt I'll give the figure away, but I am considering the lesser version of this release.

Hot Toys are making a killing by recycling older figures with marginal upgrades. I thought only phone, TV, and receiver manufacturers could convince consumers to replace their stuff constantly with FOMO. This is a great opportunity to buy the previous release for bargain prices & enjoy for 15+ months. Then just get upgrade the new headsculpt later on.

Yeah, you can say that again! It's to a point where it's annoying me. I might as well just wait a few years to get the better version of a character. I'm not upset at the anniversary announcement, but have mercy... Like you and a few others said though, this is the best time to pick up the DX16 and DX17 for a better price. It's a great release, just need to upgrade the hilt and portraits when this one release.

Hmm… Sideshow has it up as DX43(B), whereas Hot Toys have him up as MMS749(B) on their website. It’s difficult to say which one is true, but I’m more inclined to say it is MMS since it’s their product.

Is it worth the price? @$&)!^#(*?% YES!!!! TBH (in my magnanimously modest opinion that is never wrong until I am) a lot of people are agog over the "improved" head sculpt. Other than the expressions, I'm not sure the "improvements" to the head are really enough to make a difference. I've never looked at the original version and thought "too bad it doesn't look like Maul." 🤨 It looks like they improved the cloak. That being said, I ordered two of these puppies. Because I'm crazy like that. Thanks, Boston.

I don't think a lot of us thought it didn't look like Maul before this one. It's interesting the amount of comments I've seen where people are saying it now. He was loved before, but now it's a mixed bag. Even though I'm not a fan of sculpted tattoos it never took me out of the immersion of the figure. It's a great improvement, but not really a need either. Always two there are... Thanks for watching! 🍻

For myself i will get this one again love all the Updates that he hopfully comes with, Headsculpt- gorgeous, BUT and yeah i have 1 complain his boots they should redo them because i like/want my figures to move/pose this is a very agile Fella what i'm thinking is maybe cheapest option is same mold but softer pvc ...those are my little thoughts about this, overall gorgeous MF thx for read'n! Thank u B really diggin your stile overall✌️

Finally we’re getting Ray Park Darth Maul. 1.0 looks like a cosplayer.

I would rather this in a 1/4 scale. 1/6 is to small and over priced

The first one wasn't perfect objectively as sideshows figure had a better head sculpt, fact. So now HT did better even still. We could also go into the new slimmer body like it's supposed to be but really the head alone does it. Are you elitist also wettin yourselves over head sculpts

Yeah, I'd give a slight edge for the portrait design to Sideshow as well. Hot Toys' version is a bit more stylized, but I prefer the overall package of it compared to Sideshow. As for being "elitist", we all have our opinions, as you demonstrated here. It's not elitist to have a preference or wish for any of the brands to do the level of work we know they can do. Feel free to choose whichever version you like.
