I hate when books have a great premise but a terrible execution. It just seems like a waste

So many people got sponsored videos for this book, it was driving me mad! I'm fine with sponsored videos, but if everyone's doing the same ones, I end up skipping so many videos.

you should try reading Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, it talks about the same issues of beauty but has a much better world-building and character development

I don't know how the post balloon thing is supposed to work. Like how is that an effective way to send information and secrets.

The premise does sound interesting, but I honestly don't really feel the need to read this. Unless I'd skip through parts, which I really am not a fan of.

I finished reading this book earlier today, and I finally understand all your frustrations with it. I watched your review when you posted it, but it was only now that I was able to get around to reading this book. Most of my complaints about the novel are the same as yours, although, I have to admit that I actually did have fun reading it. Some more world-building would DEFINITELY have been great though.

Did Auguste betrayed Camellia because I read that he told Sophia her secrets?

I wanted to love this book. And I definitely want to support Dhonielle. But I found it so terribly executed-and even the cover photograph is blurred in a way that makes it look lo-fi! It was shocking when I first held the book. Such a strange design decision! I was also surprised at how weak the writing was. You could trade the characters to any other YA romance/fantasy and there would be no impact. It was utterly disappointing. And way too long.

I'm pretty sure she stole this concept from Leigh Bardugo. In Six of Crows, there's a character named Nina who has p much the same powers, and is a much better character.

Yeah but Tailors are a bit different in The Grishverse like their much more common and the things they do are much more understated and not that highly valued.

Did you see the authors tweets on twitter about reviewers? and apparently the book has an underlying meaning or subject of slavery.

. I was just curious if booktubers have seen it. I was just asking because apparently "white reviewers" can't understand the story properly because it's about slavery and we know nothing about that. But your video literally points out specifics and aspects that make the book bad/unenjoyable. Its a topic for this specific book that has me heated and watching your video just like justified my reason for being mad I guess?

wait what she said that? I only read something about her wanting more poc voices among the reviewers, not about white people not understanding the plot??!! oh lord is that condescending.

  • @katiethereeder4467

yes she said about wanting more poc reviewers which is TOTALLY fine. But then proceeded to say she was tired of "hot takes" on her book from white ladies. And THEN said reviewing outlets should monitor who can review her book. Which is bullshit to me. Like after I read that I stopped wanting to read the book and seeing reviewers such as yourself reviewing the book negatively and justifying why they didn't like the book makes me not want to read it even more.
