Hey Professor, could you have your editors go over the included graphical sentences to double check for spelling errors? I'm thinking that "BETS OVERALL DECK COMSTRUCTION" might be a bit wonky. This is the only criticism to be found from this long time lurker/watcher.

It feels like the exclusion of pain lands in the Painbow precon is a massive flavor fail. Especially since they were all reprinted in Dominaria United.

WotC never puts lands reprinted in the main set into the commander precons. They did the same thing with CLB. The lands are a huge selling point for the main set so they don’t want them to be easily available through precons.

@@aidanchutkan8662 It's worse than that. WotC almost never puts in *any* decent lands in precons. Sometimes you get lucky and a precon might contain one actually good reprint land in it, but that's rare. The more colors the precon has, the worse its manabase usually is because of this.
I really like that you did game play analysis before financial this time, it helps reinforce the point that these are decks to play first, then bargains

Bought the painbow and it runs beautifully. The mana ramp runs very well for what you need. The creatures heavily reward having multicolors on the feild, and the triggers all mesh and play well together
I like that Painbow seems more like a canvas to build on than something that's pushing you towards a specific strategy and wincon. Also like that it's a 5 color commander that is not just generic value.

Thank you for the comprehensive breakdown. I am a new player and have just joined a weekly Commander playgroup. I was interested in getting one of the new decks but wasn't certain what was a better choice. Thanks to the information in this video I will get Legend's Legacy in an effort to understand the game mechanics better in an effort to build up to the more complex 5 color Painbow deck in the future since that seems interesting.
Hey Prof! Love and appreciate everything you do!
Hi Prof, thank you for putting a bunch of effort into this video about how these decks play. as for me, I tend to buy precons to play with my dad out of the box. and it always sucks to put money into products that don't end up providing fun games. Thanks!
Great video!! You always help me decide on which magic products to get!
Always out here with the best reviews! Thanks Professor!
Well written, I love how you brought attention to the mana base and appreciated painbow's construction
Thanks for all your videos. Great learning each time. and i love the outro music :)
Great video as usual, prof! Ordered a pair of these from my LGS and I look forward to sleeving up and playing them, as well as deciding whether to upgrade them.
Great Content Prof. ;as usual you give a great overview and are straightforward and to the point. I've actually been working on a new 5 color deck for a while and your review of Painbow's mana base really helped me out. Many Thanks 🙂
Nice! I was not expecting such a good opinion regarding the Painbow deck. I am a happy camper because I opened mine yesterday!
the mana bases have been improving in the commander precons. the comparison to the abysmal Ur-Dragon precon mana base is apt and telling. we haven't seen guildgates since the Kaldheim precons I'm not in the market for either deck, but the reprints are pretty decent. the ones in the $1-5 range aren't big money, but generally they maintain that kind of price because they're universally useful
Haven't seen one of these reviews in a while, is good to see the professor back on this type of videos
perfectly presented professor!..thank you for explaining the mana fix for the ur-dragon..will follow that template 🙂
The way you opened the video talking about the lands was actually great, it made me want to go get the Painbow deck lol
13:01 "Bets overall deck comstruction" made me chuckle. But another great video, Prof!
Another superb video. Thanks for educating us.
Awesome job as always Prof! Keep up the awesome work and take care!
Been waiting for this one, thanks Prof!
I can definitely say that is a beautiful land base, I bought the UR DRAGON deck as my first commander deck, and it is finally nearing complete, just got my first Taiga now just the other 9 duals to go! Thanks for the wonderful and informative videos professor!
Sincerely appreciate this review. This felt like a return to form, with product reviews.
The other reviews ive seen for painbow focused on the fact that so many of the lands were entering tapped. Thanks for going more in depth
Good job on the 5C manabase analysis, it's really nice. As is this background music, it gives me wild associations.
I have a confession.....I can't stop watching your videos. Recently have gotten back into MTG in the last month (last played was with my dad back in the late 90s ) been playing with a co worker and now my son (8yrs old) wants to play lol MTG coming full circle. Thank you for all the work you put into your videos, they are very informative and entertaining.
I love that you look at not only the financial value but also the enjoyment and performance in play.
Great assessment. Thanks Prof!

With the Ur-Dragon being one of my first commander decks. I GREATLY appreciated you bringing up the painbow manabase. I had to learn a lot about construction to fix it very early on, where this is reasonable fixing!
My recommendation for a slight mana base upgrade (still budget though) if you want to run less tap lands is to run the 5 panoramas and 5 odyssey filter lands and take out the tri lands. The panoramas and slow fetches are both great stand ins for budget players to replace with true fetch lands when they are ready and shocklands for the tango lands and odyssey filters. These 20 cards (panoramas, slow fetches, tango lands and odyssey lands) have been my go to budget mana base for 5 color decks for a couple years now and are a nice balance between fixing and tempo before upgrading to true fetches and shocks
This is my favorite review of painbow. I love the deck and i only bought it after this video. Keep it up prof!
As a pretty experienced Magic player at this point, I’m super excited about the Painbow concept. Excellent start for a deck that you can totally make your own. 🤩
Prof, I think you were too kind on the manabase with painbow. Yes it's an improvement over ur-dragon but the gap between this and even a budget 5 color EDH Mana base is huge. No reason enemy pain lands (or ally but apparently that's too expensive for wotc to reprint) and/or filter lands or heck even a cycle of kaldheim snow duals (same synergy as tango lands with slow fetches) could have been included instead of so many basics. And keep in mind this is a very pip intensive deck with a proper wubrg commander that costs wubrg and a bunch of high costed multicolor legendaries. I have a feeling there's gonna be a lot of players unhappy with this out of the box and basically bricking each turn and not having enough pips to get out all their stuff.

I mean... there IS one reason, though the validity of it is debatable: that gold expansion symbol. New players aren't likely to be excited by a deck where all the rares are lands, unless in the future we get a sweet "Oops, All Lands" commander. 5+ rare, mana fixing lands is already WAY above curve for what they usually do, and it works well with the budget common and uncommon lands. Maybe adding the common fetches from New Capenna wouldn't have been the worst idea though... A slow mana base is better than one that doesn't work at all.
@MalteLewandowski

I see were you are coming from, but personally I have no problem being a bit slower in a 5c deck. I have the advantage of having access to all colors in return. Also, in some playgroups it is even not as good, to be hyper efficient in the beginning as you can be seen as the main thread very fast. I totally get the point of a perfect mana base in an 1:1 environment, but in multiplayer, a lot of different things count, like politics, threat assesment and in general having 3 opponents. Usually, in my playgroups, if a player is a bit slower (e.g. he missed some land drops or something like that), he will not get targeted that much, as other players are seen as the threat. Also I am an advocate of playing more board wipes in such a deck, as they can catch you back up. Overall, I feel that optimized mana bases are not as important as peope think they are in commander (besides very competitive playgroups and cedh of course).
Great vid, gonna be going to my lgs after work to pick up both of them.
I love your videos and I also love how much fun you have with the game
This is very informative, and should be acknowledged. It's easy so many trust this channel.
Damn Prof, that transition of the box falling from above screen into your hands at 0:30 was sick!
Awesome video! I 100% agree with your recommendation to new players versus old players. They are cool decks!
Also cool intro, someone either tossed it perfectly or you threw it up perfectly and caught it without looking 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽 smooth like buttery butter

Great video as always. I was thinking about the pentacolor one, but I think I will pass for now. Maybe take a look at older ones, but for sure will remember about the mana base like the Carthalion deck for 5color decks of my own!

One video I would really like to see is something like a "Which 5 commander decks from the last 5 (or whatever) years are best suited for beginners?" Which ones offer the best bang for you buck, are somewhat competitive withoput being too complex for new players? I am currently watching all your recent commander reviews trying to figure out which deck to get and really appreciate your work! For a new player your channel is pure gold!
Legendary tribal will always have a place in my heart, been waiting for a good legend tribal commander in mardu since Piru was spoiled in Modern Horizons. Ill be picking up this game from my local store. Love the review as always ^^

my painbow deck came with 5 extra copies of cards and was missing a swamp.
Hello professor. Did some playtesting with painbow. I felt the slow mana really hurt the deck significantly without edits. After fixing the mana base it performed significantly better.
I just picked up the Legends’ Legacy from my LGS. Can’t wait to play it!!
excited for painbow my upgrades for the deck came in today just waiting on the deck
I like how Painbow doesn’t include Sol Ring. It shows that the precons are willing to move away from shoving staples down our throats, and trying to tune back how many copies of it are in circulation.
I am quite excited to pick them both up. I hope my job gets them in lol.
Love ya, great content!!
The professor is very much so someone I would totally want to have a nice cup of tea with. The professor is just a saint of niceness to the community of players in the magic the gathering realm love ya Brian keep on trucking as the grateful dead would say
Great as always. I specifically enjoy your focus on mana bases in precons, and am likewise awed that Wizards finally printed a good one. I do wish you would add a caveat to your financial section when doing day 1 analyses of precons. The price of precon exclusive new cards is always inflated during the presale and first weekend period. The fact that most of the cards of value from both decks are the new precon exclusives means the decks will lose a significant amount of value in the coming weeks. These cards that are over ten dollars on presale and day 1 are very likely to drop by half or more in just a week or two unless they turn out to be completely busted. Basically what I'm saying is that someone could order a deck based on your breakdown, thinking they're getting a handful of 10+ dollar cards, but those cards could easily be only 2-3 dollars each by the time the deck arrives.
This guy is incredible. Subbed liked and went back to all your other vids and liked them too. Fuck yeah bro.
Hey prof, love your vids. Just wanted to let ya know there's a couple small typos at 13:21. Don't forget to proofread (unlike WotC lol)
Love these videos. While waiting for your booster box video, do you generally recommend set booster boxes for value over draft booster boxes for just, say, sealed/drafting at home?
I have a multi color draft cube and I've been using slow fetches and tangos with signets for fixing. It works great.
I agree regarding the WUBRG prof! I played the ur-dragon since it was released and it was hard to upgrade it to fully operational. The new one has a good manabase, though a confusing strategy unless tweaked properly.
I think the legends deck also offers new players more potential commander, granted only on the Mardu, side of the wedge but they could find a legendary that appeals to them or their play style. Thanks for another great vid.
I purchased a copy of each one for my friend and myself to play out of the box when he comes to visit. Though already I'm trying to get together a lot of legendary permanents as well as five color cards so we can have fun upgrading them afterward.
I was pleasantly surprised to see they released a new five color precon. I was just looking to finally make a Ramos deck, and these two were great purchases to cannibalize for it. I agree whole-heartedly on the mana base. I basically took Painbow and swapped out a ton of cards but left the mana base intact save for removing the slow fetches, adding some mana dorks and some mana rocks, and tossing in Yavimaya + Urborg. I was shocked by how well/consistently this thing runs. I'll be swapping in a few of the triomes and fetch lands that I have, but it really doesn't even need them.
Interesting decks this time. Like Painbow, myself.
God this channel has such beautiful timing
Wow, casual full art shivan destoryer. Good stuff though, been wanting to pick up painbow since i've never tried any decks with more than two colors (relatively new player haha). Do like what I'm seeing though, so might grab both of them when the prices drop later.
God, I was so excited when I saw Painbow for the first time. I can't wait to upgrade that.

Great video, as always, love pre, constructions in playing decks! I’m new, and wanting to learn magic, would it be reasonable to show people like playing tips for a deck type, sumthing like drawing a few cards and showing how you would play a hand as an example? I think it’s a good tip at first, obvious the experience would come on the playing field, but would show new, players a visual example, on a deck type?? Thanks for the time!
Oh wow I drafted Blackblade Reforged and Traxos in a Dominaria draft back in 2018, nostalgia to see them in the same deck!
