Yep we had 90s in Virginia Beach this weekend. Watered in the morning and syringe in the evening for 5 minutes

Hi Allyn, I really enjoy your videos very informative and you make me feel like you're right here talking to me 👍😃👍... Quick question kind sir: I thought putting water on your lawn when it's hot outside causes fungal diseases to grow or is that just a myth?

I have also head people say if you water at night, your yard is at risk for fungus or disease.

Great video glad to see some of this information get out there. One thing that is debatable (since we're talking about myths) is that 'syringing' will actually help your lawn or be 'good for it'. There are studies out there showing that there wasn't much (if any) benefit of syringing and that the temperature rebounded within 5-10 minutes, the only situation it seemed to improve a little bit was when relative humidity in the canopy was extremely low (also seemed to benefit more when there was more wind - obviously helping transpiration).

We are past the prodiamine window for most of the country now so you can apply again in the fall time if you are not planning to seed. Glad you are seeing good results!

Question: my backyard has clay under the soil - in some places, only a few inches down. During the summer heat, this contributes to stressing the grass. How can I combat that without digging up the yard?

Everyone tells me I’m crazy for applying fertilizer in the middle of summer if you follow the bag and what it tells you your fine every time no matter what time of the year it is.

An objective observation. The milo contest puts cool season lawns at a great disadvantage when putting the date on 6/5. Cool season lawns look their best in September/October after a big feed of N coming out of the summer, and all of the imperfections from the year are corrected.

Allyn say you apply a weed n feed(Northern grass) in 60 deg. weather but then the following two days are 90+ degrees. It says keep on grass 48 hrs. Will that burn it??

Whats your theory on those pesty moles, I've treated twice for grubs with grub-ex, tried several liquid sprays and they dont go away. my lawn is bahia and half pallmeto grass, very green and I apply milorganite every 5-6 weeks and water most every day

I got rid of my grubs and still have moles and voles. They eat worms which I have plenty of. I have trapped and killed some, I have also used a mixture of castor oil and dish soap with some success.

Contraindicate is the word I would use not counterindicate. Love your videos LCN. I always enjoy seeing the new educational content. I really do learn something new with every video. Keep it up!

I tried air8 recently Not clear if I did it properly since back sprayer just has one stream so tough to cover hole area … don’t know if it worked I may have messed it up🤷🏻‍♂️🤔

Watering in the middle of the day can be quite wasteful though as more of it evaporates before getting down in the ground, then in early morning or nighttime. when evapo rates are the lowest believe they put that fear into people on purpose to conserve water in some way

@@tinymanj669 Also if you are looking for something a bit higher in potassium, you could also look at a sulfate of potash product - I have used the Yard Mastery SOP 0-0-48 in the past to correct a potassium deficiency too.

Great tips, Allyn. Especially enjoyed the "can I mix these together" part. I've wondered that in the past. Is it correct to assume the same logic holds true to granular products? Can I mix Triazicide with Milo or granular fungicide?

I would not mix granular products. Can get them applied property that way. Only liquids.

Great video. Thank you for all the tips. We have St Aug grass in the Tampa area. Is there any I should put down durning the summer fertilizer ban that is legal and safe to put down? I don’t want to go against the ban.

As always, great content. In a pitch for more content targeted at us northerners, could you do something on how to deal with Poa Annua? We made a new lawn late last fall with KBG/Tall Fescue/Perennial Rye sod, and it looks great this year except it's about 10% Poa. Thanks for all your guidance - it really works.

Is it ok to use the FloodJet with herbicides and foliar apps? If so, when would you recommend the fan tip? I’ve been using the fan tip but it sure does take a long time.

I only use the fan too for spot or zone sprays. With the power of my sprayer, you get really good flow with the floodjet for everything else.

@@Thelawncarenut I didn’t notice a fan tip in the video so I think I incorrectly assumed you were using a herbicide with the FloodJet in the clip. Correct me if I’m wrong though. What are your thoughts on applying a herbicide and prodiamine (for example) together if rain is expected 12 hours later? Said herbicide would be rainfast at that point. Thanks again!

My favorite is the watering in the middle of a hot day..... I always ask them, how many times they're lawn has been killed by brief mid afternoon thunder showers. Too much high concentration of water could be in that area.

I have a mole that is damaging my lawn. I was told to apply grub control to my lawn because that's why I have the mole. I have looked in several places and I don't see any grubs. Also I was told that I needed to kill the mole with some type of stake into the tunnel. What do you advise?

Hey LCN. I'm having an issue with some stubborn nut sedge in one of my flower beds. It went through the weed fabric and mulch, I'm not a fan of fabric but I had such a bad weed problem in this area I went ahead and put it down, anyway the area was repeatedly sprayed with glyphosate beforehand, my question is, would sedge hammer do anything different than glyphosate because this stuff keeps coming back no matter what I put down. I can probably spot spray it again with glyphosate, this bed does not get much water as its has native water wise plants so I'm not really worried about runoff unless it rains. Thanks!

yeah glyphosate doesn't do well on sedges because it runs out of horsepower before it gets down deep to the nutlets. So what you get is just some burndown that comes right back. This is where Sedgehammer does better . it's super slow but that's because it gets all the way down. Yes it is exactly what I should be doing in those spots. I've done a regular application of Hydretain already about a month ago, but we have been so so so dry that I am still seeing these spots show up. So I need to blast some hydretain in those spots a little heavier and see if that helps. Or I could just hope that our rainy season finallly starts up.

Have you tried Celsius Plus, and will you be selling it?

Eyooooo pnw here too. Moss sucks. Moss out in spring and try to increase sunlight to the area. If its the whole yard.... Liquid moss out and a dethatcher!! Then another moss out app and some seed. THROW ER DOWN (south of olympia)

I have that issue also, seemed to come up a little early this year. I just hit it with azoxy, 3336 and propiconazole.

@@johnholmes3279 I used propiconazole about 20 days ago and got really good protection. I noticed it’s on parts of my yard that get more foot traffic than the rest. Hopefully it recovers in a few weeks. It definitely hit a little earlier than normal. I’m in New Orleans!

Exactly, it does spread through palmetto bad with foot traffic! I get it every year where my son walks through the yard to take the trash out. Usually starts first of June and resides through August. I’ve tried in years past to push through it (fert hard), but that just made it spread worse. Humidity at night doesn’t help either. I was going to try preventative this year, but it started early with this crazy spring we’ve had, so I didn’t have a chance and it’s already here in Dallas. Sucks, but other than that the rest of the grass looks beautiful!

Watering your lawn during the heat of the day is just foolishness at best, and irresponsible at worst. Water your lawn with a couple inches during the heat of the day, and lose the majority of it to evaporation. Waste water, waste your money and possibly your time (if you're manually watering).

So quinclorac kills St. Augustine. See? It is crabgrass.😂

If you’re watering, your soil is not as hot. Soil is cooler even if you aren’t watering. This is why cities are a few degrees hotter than surrounding areas because of the amount of concrete and asphalt.

Zero chance you “burn” if you follow directions correctly and irrigate. Worst case is that you out fertilizer down and it’s poor quality and did nothing lol. Shouldn’t burn.
