Downing Street is reportedly ramping up its war with the BBC as it vows to scrap the television license fee and make viewers pay a subscription instead.
The Sunday Times reports that the broadcaster could also be forced to sell off most of its radio stations, trim its website and foot more of the bill for the BBC World Service under a radical overhaul being drawn up by Number 10.
But is it time to just bite the bullet and privatise the BBC?

"Last January, the Government confirmed that there were no people in prison for failing to pay a fine for non-payment of a TV licence in England and Wales. The data was published at the end of a consultation into decriminalising the licence fee." - Byline Times

My elderly (almost eighty) mother is registered blind but still pays a full TV licence because they refused her the discount. The BBC are disgusting and not loved by me. Haven't watched their drivel for many years now and cancelled my licence online.

But we have the choice of paying for the theatre, with the BBC we are being made to pay it under the threat of extortion by threat of being taken to court and given a criminal threat

"Every year scores of the most vulnerable people are thrown into prison for not paying the licence fee." Er, no they're not. But hey, don't let the facts stand in the way of a good old rant

"You cannot be sent to prison for failing to pay a TV licence fee, only for failing to pay a fine in connection with a conviction for not paying the fee-and the latest available figures for England and Wales show no one was jailed for this in 2020 or 2021." - Full Fact
