Mad Alice haunts this snickelway. Beaten remorselessly by her husband, she finally attacked and killed him. The murder caused her to go insane, and she was hanged at York Castle in 1825. Her face can sometimes be spotted at one of the windows looking down over the lane

There's so many churches because at one time, England was a Christian country and God played a part in most people's lives back then. Sadly, not so much nowadays.

@susan bonita - nut roast , based on a 40's recipe. Original recipe was chestnuts, hazlenuts, walnuts chopped fine and lightly toasted. 1/2lb. I used walnuts, brazils, pecans hazlenuts and almonds. Original said breadcrumbs and mixed herbs I used a packet of sage and onion stuffing + extra mixed herbs, original asked for grated parsnip, I didnt have any so subbed carrot, one stick of finely chopped celery, and a finely chopped or grated onion. Mix all the dry ingredients together , original used dried egg i used 2 chicken eggs. Mixed it all up together till it made a really thick 'dough' lined a greased loaf tin and baked at 180 till firm. Cover with foil to prevent top drying and remove last 5 mins

Thank you Martin and Sharon. York is beautiful and sadly, I will never see it in person. Loved all those little shops and the old buildings you showed us. Sometimes people just walk through streets and never look up to see the incredible artistry that went into the buildings. I also enjoyed seeing the old trains from days gone by and the workmanship that went into them. York is beautiful but sure is EXPENSIVE to eat there. 🤨

If I had to sleep rough on the streets I think I’d need a drink to get me through it, numb the cold and help me get to sleep. It’s a scary place out on the streets.

Thank you for visiting York my home again and displaying York so beautifully we have a small business down Gilly Gate centre of York sadly the St Nicholas Market is killing small shops at Christmas as local people stay away as we do get so many visitors and many coaches for a small business its a nightmare and starts in November and normally on for at least 6 weeks if you visit again please pop down Gilly Gate its located off Bootham Bar such a lot of fab small shops and great little cafes 🙂
