I could never believe what Christians believe. That a God who loves humans provided us with a book as a guide to avoiding eternal torment, and that book is the Bible. Full of irrelevant content, content supposedly meant to be ignored, barbarism, contradictions, ambiguity and all filtered through fallible and self-serving men and delivered to a world that is mostly illiterate.

I see someone who believed everything they'd told her as she grew up, but now she's found the truth, something that, for her own particular community, isn't ideal. This is the real test for her: the actual test. Please tell her to inspect the Book of Genesis. God let unclean animals onto the Ark in pairs, a male and a female. Let's repeat! The animals that entered the Ark two by two, as we're all told when we were children, were unclean! The clean animals entered in pairs of seven. This is left out of kids' books. Why? Think about this, and you'll know that God isn't the monster you proclaim him to be.

I think maybe God should’ve worked harder to make it understandable. My dad was a good teacher. He didn’t bombard me with violent, inconsistent, confusing, fantastical, immoral, and literally unbelievable stories. He spoke clearly and honestly- like an ACTUAL father would do. As for the Bibles sales record, cocaine and heroin do very well to. Choose your poison, I guess… People are afraid of dying and often deceive themselves immensely in the pursuit of eternal life. Kristi, you have been a huge help in my deconversion of Christianity, I was incredibly devout like you literally only a week ago. Im 17 and I was only a Christian for 2 years, and the only reason why i'm not now is because of many things you have said, and multiple faith crises and severe scrupulosity which acted as a catalyst for that, Yes I'm mentally ill and I'm not ashamed of saying that... I've learnt so much about myself this past week and I cant put it into words how relieved I am that the nightmare of religion + ocd is over, I don't want to get too personal but genuinely I'm so thankful for you.

What disturbed me as a child and still does to this day is people gleefully saying someone is "God fearing" as if that's supposed to be a _good_ thing. How can any human rationally love someone "with all your heart and all your mind" a being you're *_supposed_* to live in *fear* of? We all know what we believe of that kind of relationship today.

It also suggests that our love for this entity is conditional upon our obedience and submission. This is not the foundation for a healthy, loving relationship. Furthermore, the idea that one must 'love God with all your heart and all your mind' is patently absurd. Love is not something that can be commanded or forced. It has nothing to do with being smart to understand the Holy Scriptures. The Word of God tells us that the un-regenerate person can not understand what the Holy Spirit is saying to them through His Word. "But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned, (void of the Spirit)." (1 Corinthians 2:14) That is why Jesus strongly emphasized that you MUST BE born again to SEE and ENTER the kingdom of God." (John 3:3,5) Then, and only then will the scriptures start to come alive to you. (I know. I have seen it first hand with my wife, who recently trusted Jesus for her salvation. She suddenly sees what Jesus is saying and the truths being revealed).

It's not the parts of the bible that I don't understand that bothers me, it's the parts of the bible that I do understand that bothers me.

Time, space and matter has to come into existence at the same time. If there was matter but no space, where would you put it? If there was matter and space but no time, when would you put it? You cannot have matter, space and time independent of each other. They have to be created simultaneously. This is answered in 10 words: In the beginning (time) God created the heaven (Space) and the earth (matter). So you have time, space, matter-a trinity. Time-past, present and future. Space-Length, width, height. Matter-Liquid, gas, solid. God, who created them, has to be outside of them. And He is. Ready to repent now?

Let's define a few key terms first: Scholar: A scholar is someone who uses intellectual and academic pursuits to set them apart from others by applying their expertise in a specific area of study. PhD: PhD is short for Doctor of Philosophy. This is an academic or professional degree that, in most countries, qualifies the degree holder to teach their chosen subject at university level or to work in a specialized position in their chosen field. Philosophy: Philosophy is an activity people undertake when they seek to understand fundamental truths about themselves, the world in which they live, and their relationships to the world and to each other. As an academic discipline philosophy is much the same. No where in any of those definitions does it say that any of it is based only on scientific theory or generally understood fact. I personally have no problem with those terms being used for someone who studies the bible beyond the point that most of us ever will. And people have every right to learn about the bible at the university level, whether or not they believe in it. And if someone chooses to hire such a person for a "specialized position in their chosen field", that's their business and I'm sure they have their reasons. Even though I don't believe in the bible, I find it of great interest and still feel we can learn about humanity from it. I did take a college level course for the bible and I'm glad it was offered through the *philosophy* department. The professor never urged his students to become Christians, only urged understanding, although obviously I can't guarantee that's the case for all professors outside of Christian schools. So, to reiterate: people should be able to learn about the bible and all it entails at the university level, and a PhD is necessary for that if the course is taught in such a school.

So, it was the God of the bible that convinced me of his own existence from what I was believing him to be which was a creator in general to who he really was after my relationship was established with him when I believed (trusted) the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).

I have been asked a ton of questions, and I don't shy away from any of them. I have answered many to the satisfaction of the skeptic that was asking.

As a kid, there were three Bible stories we were taught in school (I went to Catholic school and we had religion classes daily) that even as an 8 or 9 year old, made me question the Bible, and therefore God: the story of Job, the time God told Abraham to murder Isaac and of course the Flood. How could a loving, perfect God be such a dick? There was no way these stories could be true if God was perfect.

I think we run into problems when we equate God as an individual, with human traits, instead of an entity, not unlike a Board Of Directors, of a Corporation. The Board acts as one, but, is made up of individuals. The same as the Godhead.

Even when theists are unreasonable, I sometimes have to remind myself that I was a theist once too, and was just as unreasonable. I used to disregard what in hindsight were reasonable arguments, because I "knew" God was real, and that nothing could change that for me. How difficult it is to let go of deeply held beliefs, and to truly examine your beliefs with a skeptical, meticulous eye.

@@riluna3695 I saw a video from someone like Kristi deconstructing Noah's Ark. And at the end of it, I still debated people, but on the Inside, I couldn't completely disagree with what was said. So I decided to look for arguments against it, which was honestly confirmation bias. Answers In Genesis. Except they claim that dinosaurs were on the Ark, and I've been educated enough to think that sounded ridiculous. So I kept watching videos and doing research. I learned the scientific method, the classification of life, and encountered other objections to the bible, like discrepancies about the death of Judas, for example. In any case, I think it was a gradual thing. There was an internal objectionary inkling in my mind that I had been ignoring, and as I continued to do research, that internal inkling gradually made more sense to me than holding onto something I could no longer intellectually defend honestly.

As much as this is an oversimplification, sometimes it really feels like the answer for everyone is "how long can you ignore the nagging voice in the back of your head that something is weird here?" And then once you finally listen to it, you realize exactly why it was trying so hard to get your attention.

Kristi, you've done it again 🖤. I only believed because I was indoctrinated by my female parent to fear and believe in God. I'm from a small town in Southeast Georgia and everyone around me backed up the beliefs with their own beliefs so, obviously, I believed it too. I'm now an atheist and my female parent won't have anything to do with me after speaking up about familial sexual abuse and asking my critical thinking questions about Christianity. It's a sad situation, but I'm relieved to be free to think and do as I choose and actually have some peace.

I also grew up with a family that believed the Bible was the good book. I remember reading it as a child. And I was shocked at what I read. I asked why would God put this in the Bible? There were many questions. Finally as an adult I gave it .

The bible is a kaleidoscope of human behaviour. Any events related in it can be seen today. War, famine, poverty, murder, it is an examination of the human condition, why there is evil in the world, why people behave immorally. It records the words of Jesus who claimed to bring salvation. If we choose to not accept it that is our right but the problems of the world still remain and suffering endures even though we dismiss the notion of God. Have you read the book of Ecclesiastes? It is a short book which describes the corruption the author experienced during his life, It asks the hard questions of God in more profound terms beyond Kristi's earnest but elementary method.

And I have heard your reasoning before. I still don’t understand why children by age twelve are encouraged to read it. I didn’t need to read about god telling men to kill everyone but they could keep the virgins for themselves. Or about Lot’s daughters seducing their father, and producing sons. Then there’s Elisha, who cursed 25 boys in the name of the Lord, and two she bears devour 25 young boys. How convenient for men to say that God ordered women to be silent and submissive. Also god commanding slaves to obey their master, even if he’s unjust. The Bible is not my God’s word. My god created the universe and all life. My god doesn’t demand murder,rape and killing innocent children because they tease an old bald man.

You are being very reasonable. If the Bible really written by a all-powerful and all-knowing god it would have no contradictions and be perfectly understandable in every language ever written. I've always thought that even the idea of writing down scriptures in a holy book is a flawed system to begin with. An all powerful God could have written it in the sky with stars, or made a video of it, or made it part of our biology, even - like a birthmark that all people are born with or something. Any of those would be more reliable than asking me to believe that people thousands of years ago wrote stuff down accurately and then scribes over millennia copied it accurately. There are so many different ways to make mistakes with books, especially one with so many different voices, languages, conflicting ideas, etc..

You really help me to leave religion, I left one day before I found your channel and watch your arguments helped me a lot and now I feel better in my life, no more constant fear, guilty and all those things that christianism make us feel all the time. I see life as it is now and you helped me with that, keep the good job, more people need to hear what you say.

Before rejecting all the claims of a theist, go back and start from the beginning. Most theists you will encounter believe in Yahweh, (or Allah, Hashem or any of the other aliases) the god of Abraham. Reject the god of Abraham. Show the theist how the ancient Hebrews fabricated the god who chose them as the basis of their mythology. This is the most easy and simple step. Usually, it is enough for the theist to digest in one day so they will wish to break off from the conversation. Later, all the other claims about Jesus and the rest of the supernatural can be methodically tackled from there.

But what if you're wrong... Read Gen. 3:1-6 and compare it to 3:22 the serpent was really telling the truth and the Elohim admitted that they lied and that the serpent was telling the truth and freaked out at the possibility of competition kicked them out of paradise (Eden) before they could eat the fruit of the tree of life. Also, that story reminds me of the Sumerian story of Adapa getting tricked by Enki into not becoming immortal by not accepting a food or drink of immortality.

If God does exist, I believe his (her?) love would be unconditional. To this day, I remain open- minded about the possibility of a creator, but I question and reject the notion that in order for me to go to heaven, I must check all of the boxes in the Christian ideology. God either loves us, or he doesn't. It's straightforward.

I agree with your statement in the intro that people need to examine their beliefs. The challenge is “research” often turns into an exercise in confirmation bias. It is difficult to change your mind about fundamental beliefs.

For me that's exactly what happened - you start getting deep into apologetics and initially it works and you start feeling more confident that there are good Chriatian explanations for everything. Great video Kristi, what you left out [ which I think enhances everything your saying ] is not only were these gospels written 40-110 years after his death, they were written in ANOTHER country by people who DIDNT even speak the language Jesus spoke. I live in Massachusetts, a very historical state. But the history we were taught in school differs from the factual history. I can cite several examples of incorrect history just from my State. Even as a child, I recognized the timeline problem. My Bible had a chart in the back that gave the dates all the books in the Bible were written. Love your work, keep it up!

What peeps dost thou speak of? I am looking for a superstitious contributor here, but they all agree with HRH Kristi, The Princess of Commonsense and Ytube.

Early in my childhood, before I was six, I looked at the Chistmas tree in my families living room and thought about Santa. The word "nope" came quickly to me but I played along. This mirrors exactly my relationship with Christianity as it was presented to me. But I played along. Playing along has many advantages inside various communities. Saying nope can have uncomfortable consequences but in the end, it's the most reasonable conclusion. So, yes. You are being reasonable.

But the evidence does support a significant number of claims found in Scripture. Start with the Hydroplate Theory. Look at all the explanations for geological features presented by today's leading intellectual scientists, and compare their explanations with the explanations put forth by the Hydroplate Theory.

Thank you so much for your podcasts. I, too, grew up in Christianity/ religion. It wasn't until my late 20s early thirties that I really dug in to disect the scriptures to solidify my skepticism. I was able to peel away all the folklore superstition about the afterlife, heaven, and hell. One I saw past that, the rest came naturally. I was able to see right through all the bullstink that keep others brainlocked into it. I honestly believe it causes psychological issues. Psychological problems that those locked in can not get past. I feel sorry for those poor lost people who just can't figure it all out. They're not well grounded in reality.

For posterity, of course! It's not like the Bible does not have any accounts of God speaking to men! It's just the percentage of people through hom He actually does talk, is very limited, because there are way too many people who claim that God spoke to them, but really, they are only spouting their own ideas.

You certainly nailed this one. My take on how the measuring stick in which is applied to science, is currently not the same stick that may be used to measure the spiritual.

I love all of your videos. I have actually binged most of them in the past week. You are spot on with so many important things, almost exactly how I have felt for years. I cannot thank you enough for your work. Your videos make me feel like I am less alone. I also grew up in a very Christian family, I even went to a Christian school, Bible study, all the things... The only difference is that I secretly never actually believed any of it in my deepest heart even though I tried because I had so many questions... many of which you have addressed in a very thoughtful way. I felt so alone and felt like I couldn't tell my family or anyone, felt like a bad person, I just simply could NOT believe and could not understand why everyone else around me did for my entire life until I moved out from home. Any intelligent questions I had were always shut down. I was so trapped and didn't have the guts to even say it. It led to a deep depression and yada yada... It has taken years to deconstruct in my own head everything I was told. I'm now 37 and I still don't have the guts to tell my mother that I don't believe. Guilt and shame are crazy, and it's still so hard to just say it. I don't believe the Bible. I want to thank you so much for giving a voice to people like me in a very thought-out way. We are not bad people. The system (if it exists) is all kinds of screwed up. Even if God did exist, he is not a good god, not worthy of my life. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It’s so true we as the one forced to believe this book, it’s so difficult to tell our believer family, relatives and friends the real truth about this book. Christian org I was in will teach to SHUN anyone just for not believing it anymore if that one has dedicated (baptized) into it and decides to leave and questions it. Too insane and so sad just for this book or say a God, family, relatives and friends will be divided.

I know... and I was actually baptized and did confirmation (Lutheran). On the day I was confirmed (I was like 14) I actually tried to fake sick because I couldn't bear the thought of making a declaration to all these people when I knew it wasn't true for me. I grew up in a very religious home and I remember as a little adults sitting around and interrupting the bible. These were ppl that had no formal theological education. It seemed like they were just pulling interruptions out of thin air. They would argue. Thanks for ur vid!

I totally agree...I studied for 6 yrs in theoligical colleges & got my MA & find it was all a waste of time & money. I was a Christian & after studying so much I kept having more questions & doubts...finally decided not to follow christianity any longer or holidays...thank you for yr critical thinking. God gave us wisdom, knowlege & discernment & unfortunately many don't use it.

If you think about it, we were never meant to have the Bible at all. It was strictly for Monastics. It's not for "us" the common man. It's no wonder that most of it comes off as ridiculous and useless for the purpose we are supposed to believe it is intended for.
