Is it really 500w?? Zhiyun G300 Light

Ғылым және технология

This new light boasts of being able to reach 500w even tho it's a 300w light. Along with being packaged up in a small size with the useful features it offers - is it worth it?

Really appreciate your treatment of gear in reviews and overviews - especially your highlighting of the fan noise. If I remember correctly, you've had mixed feedback on this - one review you talked about it and a load of people said don't bother, another review you left it out and people wondered where it was!! So yes, thank you very much - it is a crucial aspect when considering purchasing a light like this. I know you'll make more videos about the G300 and do some comparisons, but you packed a lot into this one. As I've become accustomed to with your videos, thorough, knowledgeable and information dense without being TOO tightly packed. Nice!!!

Does the price tag match the over value of the product. Example the compact size out weighs the fan noise. Or the power output at this price point is a better than the cost of traditional sized COB light.

Thanks for your honest opinions on this light!!! as always truly appreciate them!! 1:18 for those reading: if you are working with LED lights (specially high output power ones) use gaffer gloves (leather) to handle units (specially this kind which doesn't have enough surface to disippate the heat efficiently on the body) and only wear cotton or natural fibers clothing (hoodies, shirts, t shirts, pants etc.), the reason is that synthetic fiber textiles will melt because of the heat generated by high power lights) and if they melt on your skin that's a huge problem!

I was just on a shoot on the weekend where I needed something stronger than my 300 watt light and have been looking at 600 watt lights, but they start hitting $1,000 and more. However, for $600...and the much smaller form factor for a 500 watt light...that's got my interest. As far as the fan noise goes, that does concern me for indoor narrative film scene use, but for blasting through a window to "be" the sun, that's not a factor, and it's one of the most popular uses I would have for it. I don't know how they could make that with a quieter fan and keep the same size dimensions. I am glad all the FX can be accessed directly from the controller. I don't put the control apps on my phone because they usually access privacy things that have nothing to do with turning the brightness up and down, like web browsing history and contacts. There's no time limit on the MAX setting? If not that is surprising. That's great that they are sponsoring your reviews. Congratulations! They value your input, even if it isn't all glowing. That says something about them too. They seem to know they need the constructive criticism.

Got a 700w powerstation for two zhiyun molos g200 plus a backup 300w powerstation in case we need to run one of them outside the window to use as a window accent or atmospheric light emulating sun shafts in hazed interiors, this g300 molus seems like a future buy for as it's super portable and easy to handle and pack into shoots. I wouldn't use this as an interior light given how loud it gets, usually we use it with a Bowens fresnel focusing lens which extends and concentrates the light into a directional spot. I have to say the molus g200 for us was an unexpected winner compared to our older bulky 200w lights They come in at half the size and pack a real punch, plus the light color quality is very commendable for these to be daily drivers and come at a price a lot cheaper than arpature lights which come at a premium Didn't expect much from a somewhat decent gimbal company

Zhiyun question, but unrelated to this particular light: What do you think are the chances they'll branch out into flexible LED mats with decent power? I'm realising that for the lighting I want to do, this is probably the fixture that makes the most sense, all things considered. I have a Molus 100 and the new little M20C from Zhiyun (love them both, don't use them enough!) and would choose to stay within their app ecosystem if possible. I have no idea if you would know about their future plans, or if you could speak about them if you did. Just wondering!

It is not locked no. I only measured the MAX mode for 5600K because it's the most common. But you can get max mode on an kelvin temp. They recommend 4300K as the best MAX mode output. It can stay in boost mode for as long as you like I believe. I tested it in boost mode for around 1 hour and it was still going strong. The G200 I've had for awhile, and have used it indoors and outdoors and it's been a good light. The G300 I've only had a few weeks.

Thank you for this detailed review, but it seems weird when you say, "Zhiyun if you're listening"? One would think that of course they are listening, they paid you for this video so do you really think they wouldn't even watch the very thing they paid for? Also, and more importantly, your camera exposure is all over the place and your highlights are completely blown out in a lot of shots, not to mention your sound is really bad in multiple takes. This makes it hard to take the things you say seriously because if you claim to be an authority on the subject, these are all very beginner mistakes. Anyway best of luck with your channel and future reviews. Hopefully you can take some tough love to step up your game on the next one.

Thanks for the feedback. I never assume a company is 'listening' even if they watch my videos. :D And for the exposure, I was focusing on sharing the sound of the fans, not the exposure, not to mention I was bouncing it around the space. Along with it being over-exposed it lets people know the light is truly at a MAX output setting rather than me 'faking' anything. Proper exposure is for all other moments except 'live' or testing moments. As for sound quality, the gain got a lil busted but I decided to go with it since it was a great example of how the fans might sound in a situation where gain is high. :D So in the end, it was all useful to many others who judge the important things I was showcasing.

@@247.mp4 great question with a very simple answer. You'd use a meter, histogram or false color like she probably used in the other parts of the video to find correct exposure and then post those settings on screen... you know like every other light review on yt. If the image is clipped/overexposed that means she's lost sensor info so this is the opposite of sharing info and this quite honestly is an amateur move. And fyi she overexposed the image multiple times, not just when she was showing max power on the lamp.
