Same, although just last month I went by Goodwill on a whim looking for a cropped black denim jacket, and I found one!!! It had a stupid “distressed” bottom edge that looked like it had been attacked by a shark, but adding a proper bottom band with stash fabric was easy. Maybe thrift karma can change!

That was my problem for so long, and then one day, I decided to keep an open mind, and just grab anything that appealed to me; I have found so many gems that way, including the basic tees etc that I was hoping to find. I’ve also found that knowing which stores tend to have the most stuff I like, is helpful.

My mom has this gift. I say, "hey mom I need a cat carrier" or "vintage potato masher" or "mug that says happy 10th anniversary " and by the next week, she's found at least two different options. I, on the other hand, go to look for a basic lampshade or a simple picture frame, and there's nothing. It truly is a gift. And a willingness to go multiple times a week at random times of the day.

So I thrifted my wedding dress and the reason that’s crazy is I was looking for a purple or green beaded gown. And it took several months but I found it at the thrift store for $40 in dark teal. And it fit. Super crazy.

I keep a “grocery list” of things I want to thrift on my grocery list app. Once I get in the thrift my mind will go blank if I don’t remind myself why I’m there. 😂

While anyone can do what they want, I absolutely love that you mentioned buying warm things in moderation because some people rely on them for warmth!! I see so many thrifters who (innocently, I believe) buy so many special items (wedding or prom dresses to just use for regular use especially) or thick good quality items in excess just because they can! If you have lots of good warm things already, please consider leaving those kinds of special items for people who really need them to be accessible!

This is such good advice! I’d also recommend that thrifty gals leave the plus sized sweaters (and the children’s XL sweaters) for the people who actually need those sizes. It’s difficult for full figured ladies to find pretty clothes when they’re competing with everyone who wants oversized, or for preteens who need something grown-uppish but are competing with young women who scout the kids’ racks. Especially regarding winter clothes, when it’s most needed.

Weirdly enough I’ve had an ice cream scoop on my thrift list for a long time, but like you said, I’m picky about it being a weighty metal one so still waiting for my soul mate. Also appreciated your conversation around being thoughtful with cold weather clothing. I feel like this is especially important with kids coats.

I went to a garage sale was looking for a crock for utensils for my guy in either red or black. Well they had one of each with some kitchen things and inside the one he wanted was an ice cream scoop. Happy hunting.

The past few weeks, my Mom has had me checking to find a really large, round, shallow pasta dish for her when I've hit the thrift stores, and they've been impossible to find. I saw one on sale that was PERFECT at HomeGoods while I was there today, and I bought it and I feel a little bit sullied by not holding out for second-hand, but we're having pasta for Christmas Eve, so I wanted to make sure she got her dish before then.

Yes to second hand gifting! I always look for preloved pieces when I want to gift something that would be far out of my price range when bought new. It´s such a fun challenge to get the item you want within a budget.

I didn't realize until Kathleen talked about being very particular about choosing the right piece, but curation is 100% my thrifting love language as well. That's the reason a vintage a telephone/"gossip" bench has been on my "to thrift" list forever now (well, that plus the fact that everyone takes gorgeous antique wood and covers it up with such modern paint colors, which is a sin against vintage in my humble opinion.)

my mom thrifted a pink Stanley cup this summer in North Carolina and we couldn’t believe it. it was literally like $2. and it was her dream color. the thrift gods really listen!!!! 💕✨

For coat racks / other larger furniture-y items, estate sales are really where it’s at.

It’s kind of encouraging to know that thrift the wishlist is hard even in the land of plenty

Seriously! I get discouraged because I feel like my stores don't have the good stuff so it's helpful to see these plentiful stores not provide occasionally!

Vintage in everything. Natural fabrics esp wool or linen. Sewing notions. Jewelry. Whatever catches my eye.

I’m always hunting for tiny things to craft with… that I then hoard like a troll because they are too cute and tiny to actually craft with 👀

Relatable!

For years I was looking for a faux fur leopard coat. Whenever I saw one it either didn't fit, or wasn't the right style. BUT THEN last year there it was! For $17 ! So don't give up hope, you'll find it eventually!

In my experience, the answer is yes, but only in the off season. I was once telling a coworker about a beautiful sweater I found in a summer heat wave. I said, “watch me find a summer dress in February.” I did, and still have it.

My local value village only puts out sweaters in the winter and shorts in the summer, it's so annoying!

I found your channel then realized you are from Columbus. I was born and raised there and lived in German Village. I now live 3 hours away, but would always come home to visit my Mom. We loved hitting thrift stores there...more back in the day. I'm 64 now and I'm a thrift store/ flea market goer. It's been awhile since I have thrifted there however. The last time I hit what was called; "Ohio Thrift" stores, the prices were alot more than they were. My Mom loved hitting the hardwares areas first lol. I was all over the place lol There are great deals to find but I think the key is having patience when going in. You have to be ready to take time and look. It also helps to have an idea of what it is you are hoping to find. I love, love, love outdoor fleamarkets cause people that come and set up are wanting to sell and will work with you on their prices more than not. It's one of those times when you gotta get out there during the warmer seasons and get there early. Thank you for sharing your time here with us...keep thrifting and crafting. Happy Holidays

I went thrifting on Saturday night, about 30 minutes before closing.....i had been watching a period drama that had the most beautiful quilted coats " man id love something like that, I'll prob just end up making one"......... I work at the library and this year we put a big pile of regifted books under the tree and called them Fraggle Presents, as in "When I give a gift to you I know you're going to give it too that's why giving's what we do! Pass it on!" Some funny things have turned up. Like a guide to kilt tartans and a kid's book about farting grannies. It's been so much fun!

I think that's why I like thrifting: I never go in with a plan of what I want, so every trip is a surprise. Kind of takes the pressure off.

I almost never find something specific that I'm looking for, but when I go in just to see if anything stands out to me, I pretty much always find at least a couple things. That's really the way I prefer to thrift...just seeing what treasures await me there, and if I find something that's on my thrifting wishlist, that's just a super awesome bonus.

There have been a couple times I've found exactly what I was looking for at the thrift store - my favourite was a replica red plaid mini skirt that Jenna Coleman wear in Doctor Who - but if I'm on a specific deadline, I don't often find what I need. You can be real specific in what you want, or you can have a deadline you need to find the item by. It's very difficult to do both and find exactly what you need (in a physical store, anyways).

In the side quest category, I'm on the lookout for a nice wooden jewelry box. I also always keep an eye out for wool sweaters that may be looking a bit sad but that I could unravel and recycle into a new crocheting project.

I’m not sure if you’ve already done this but I’d love to see a video of your favorite vintage brands/tags to look out for. Loved your video with all the tips! For my thrift list it’s currently minimal since I plan to move late may but I need jeans which is my least favorite shopping.

When I go looking for exact things, it'll always take longer to find them. When I go with nothing in mind, then I find the thing I didn't even realize I wanted/needed. Cool artwork, lamps, and flowerpots are what I'm always looking for though.

Oh my gosh, that vacuum was the vacuum from the Brave Little Toaster! Kirby was legit his name! 😊 My grail is always old puzzles and games. I've got a few 80's and 90's games I'm hunting for, and the really old springbok puzzles from the 60's

I love to thrift. I live in a small town with only 2 thrift stores. A Goodwill and a Salvation Army. I popped into the Goodwill to just look around. I collect Converse sneakers so I have to look at the shoes. I found a super cute pair of ballet flats, I put them in the cart it's a little busy. I was completely blown away. They are a pair of Hermes yes Hermes ballet flats. In my size. And the color of the tag was .99

First off, it was such a fun surprise to run into you at Goodwill this Saturday! I texted my bf about it and they said I should've gotten a selfie with you, lol, maybe if we run into each other again? hope you found some treasure ❤ Second, my to-thrift is definitely a cute pair of full legged overalls with All the pockets ❤ I got close awhile back but the front side pockets were fake! Holding out hope tho, I know I'll find my perfect overalls someday...

My wish list is very basic. I need measuring cups, some frames for photos, and a lotion bottle or soap bottle that can be used for lotion.

I feel like I often find what I am looking for, putting out my needs into the universe. I also have an open mind and find things I wasn’t looking for but def need. This year I thrifted almost all the fabric needed for making Xmas gifts, also found stocking stuffers. I’m here for thrifted/serving hand gifts.

I love the fancy popped pinky at the end 😅 Almost all my gifts are thrifted or handmade this year. I've been slowly collecting items for approx 6 months because I like to find good stuff and I hate last min shopping before Christmas specifically. Can't wait for the extra video!

I’m glad you weren’t in the same thrift store as me in December. I found a gorgeous angora wool blend blanket woven in the colors of a tropical sunset. I think it must have been stored in a trunk for the past 20 years. Now, you’re obviously younger and stronger than me, but you know, I’m old and wily, so maybe I would have had a shot at it if we both spotted it at the same time, but the thrifting gods were with me and there was no competition. I hope you will or did find one just as beautiful.

Not right now, but I cosplay and frequently search for thrift items with specific structural elements that I can deconstruct and use as Frankensteinable pattern pieces. Way easier than trying to draft my own patterns, or looking for a pre-made pattern with all the right parts. Sometime I find simple cosplay pieces like shoe bases at the thrift store too.

ive been hunting for a corduroy jacket for months and just found one tossed on a bin of bags in the shoe section for 5CAD!!! Perfect colour and size, sometimes when you have a vision it takes time but it is worth it knowing you got exactly what you wanted, its a very rewarding feeling

I found a Gap brand one recently for $5. Deep olive green. I absolutely love it.

The coat rack. The ever distant coat rack. I had a nice swiveling one that my mom just found on the side of the road, but it couldn't be brought with me when I moved. Now I'm on the quest as well. Also, where Im from walled plates are called "tilly plates"! 😊

that's crazy! I HAVE that chest of drawers with the games inside and I use it for papers and arts supplies tooo. my roommate got it at a thrift store like 10 years ago

That black and white sweater looks like something Dan Levy would wear, which means it’s fabulous.

There was a time when I went to a Thrift Store and they had this ugly but cute green Kohl’s mug. I never intended to look for one and never knew that Kohl’s had mugs but I bought it because it was different and that’s why I love it so much. 😂😂 I love my dark green, not so pretty Kohl’s mug but it is a conversation piece and from then on I am always on a hunt for unusual kitchen ware. I also found a Joe’s Crab Shack glass jar, bought it, and I love it just as much. ❤🤣 I’m using it right now for some iced tea actually. 😌

I have a black vintage sweater vest on my winter thrift wishlist, inspired by you! The question of "will I be able to find exactly what I'm looking for" is a question I ask myself a lot while thrifting abroad, actually. The thrift stores abroad are a lot better (and cheaper) than my local ones, so I travel with a wishlist to make the most of the prices and the older items.

Thrifted almost all my niece and nephew's advent gifts this year, unicorns, star wars and even some lego.

I'm always looking for sweaters and comfy statement pants, and wool sweaters are such a treasure to find, especially where I live where the weather is wacky and inconsistent. I also have way too many jackets, because I just love being eccentric when I can, and it's hard to do that in the same old gray puffy jacket. I mean, c'mon. Anyways, I felt like the luckiest thrifter alive when I found a bright red suede jacket- very sharp- and it fit. I also always find the greatest trenchcoats at thrift stores, and it's nice to at least appreciate them, even when they don't fit. Silk scarves are also always on my list. They're so great.

All my items I find at thrift stores are side quest items. But Food saver bags are always an instant buy because they're so expensive! But so is food spoiling in the freezer. Today's side quest find was from a literal yesterday video watching Jazza's Temu finds. I wanted to try the glass pen dipping and I was very happy to say I found a 6 pack for a few bucks a long with the Animal Crossing joystick adapter that matches my Animal Crossing themed Switch. Two shmeckles! I did find an "exactly what I need" moments when I found a very nice pair of winter Timberland boots in deep blue and warm leather color that made me melt. Basically brand new for twenty five doll hairs. I was obsessed.

I found our son a brand new Five Nights at Freddy's tee shirt at the thrift store. Brought it home, washed it, and wrapped it. I have bought many gifts at thrift stores. My daughter and I Love your videos. Merry Christmas 🎄🎁

I live in the south. It hardly ever gets cold enough to bundle up in sweaters and a scarf. I loved the sweaters you found.

My story: I was looking for a cover for the bed in my guest bedroom. It's a double bed, but I found a single-sized duvet that was PB Teen--high quality and exactly the colors I wanted (lots of paisleys). I laid it sideways across the bed and let it drape over the sides (it's a poster bed with long legs). The duvet was half price that day--I paid $2.50 for it.

I found the most adorable butter dish my last time thrifting that is perfect for the white elephat gift exchange our family does every year. If they dont appreciate it I will gladly take it for myself. 😂

One thing I do while thrifting: when I find something that's really cool but I'm not going to buy for this reason or that reason. I try to put it to a place where it can be seen easier by other shoppers who might appreciate how beautiful it is and be able to find the joy in that item for themselves.

If you're looking for winter stuff, do it off season. I've found the best stuff on summer vacation in Florida--lots of old folks moving down there and downsizing all their wintery gear. I got the best furry hats, coats, and sweaters in Florida.

Yeah, as a seasoned thrifter, I would say it can take five times or stops to find exactly what you’re looking for. Unless you’re lucky! Which can happen!

The pastel sweater you got is so so cute!!!

My thrift wishlist is anything plus sized boho, especially a plus sized Penny Lane coat. Also keeping my eye out for more funky kaftans.

I also have super-specific thrift lists, since you never know what you’ll find! I’ve had “ceramic goose nesting measuring spoons” on my list for months and I just found some at the thrift last week- they were plastic, not ceramic, but that’s close enough for me! :D

Best finds recently was a Talbot red 100% wool coat which they do not do 100% wool anymore--$5. Perfect condition. I also found a brand pair of the high top throw Reebok Classics for $14.

i’ve gotten exactly what i was looking for at the thrift a few times : two pairs of converse, a scott pilgrim vs the world t-shirt (one of my fav movies), and recently i found the cutest pairs of heels that i have saved on pinterest but they didn’t fit 😭

Typically when I'm specifically looking for something it's for others.I usually try to find mugs with random names on them so when I make them into presents with some snacks and tea/hot chocolate mixes it makes the gift fun! I especially love the knights round table restaurant ones. I miss seeing the rainforest Cafe ones. Another thing I usually like to look for is the grab bag stationary like those cards you found, those are so fun to find and to use and its always easy for presents or just to make a quick note for someone!

Bryn Connelly is my favorite! Crystal glasses and 💯 wool items are always on my wish list...

I'm on the hunt for an oversized fleece with moose, bears, wolves, horses, etc on it - those western-wear type ones

What kind of blanket are you looking for? I’ll be traveling through the Columbus area this week and next, we have a bunch in our shop :) All of our gifts are second hand or handmade this year, lots of homemade jellies and so many fun vintage shirts and lil goodies for friends and family :)

Once upon a time I went to five different office supply stores in three cities looking for a typewriter I needed to fill out a form (who actually has a typewriter anymore???) frustrated and ready to cry I passed a thrift store. “I’m just going to go in and look. Real quick. They probably won’t have it. But I’m going to look.” They had it. It just needed ink.

I found you through Alexa sunshine and I gotta say I love the way you talk and your energy is very sweet and calming to me. I really wanna sit cross legged and do some crafts with ya or something 💖

Good video This was my best year ever I thirfted. I had focus on essential things and I kept to my list.

I made mittens from felted wool sweaters that I thrifted. I also made candles out of some nice pottery that I thrifted. When the candle is gone they will have a usable object.
