Tire choices came into play with the Outlaws at Independence, one dirt late model chassis builder is dominating the game right now and I've got the numbers, plus a dirt racing series hosting a pavement race.

CJ Rayburn always said he developed his chassis ideas on pavement first then transitioned them to the dirt. It's no surprise to see a modern DLM go fast on pavement. We use wider, softer tires and have a hell of a lot of mechanical grip in these cars.

I was at What once motordrome speedway a half mile blacktop track. They ran a dirt late model on the track with dirt tires at intermission and after he got a couple of l a ps started going after the track record, this guy was running 1/2 of a second faster that the track record, those blacktop people couldn't believe that. They used the score board to record that guy running laps during his run. It was a local guy that ran at Pittsburgh pa motor speedway.

Longhorn wins because they share info with their customers it seems like. The rocket house car always wants to be the leader of the bunch. Longhorn doesn't care who wins, as long as it's one of their chassis doing it.

You couldn’t be more wrong. Rocket is very involved in establishing a relationships with car owners and crew chiefs, assisting them in initial chassis setups (getting a car baseline), then tuning the car to the driver. I have owned several Rocket chassis’s, and every one performed well. We didn’t always win, but we were always competitive.

@robertwestover2125 I do believe Rocket will support you up to a certain level, but they will never let someone else be better than their house car and that's what will hold them back. I have been going to dirt late model races for about 15 years, back when Josh Richards was in the seat. I think in those 15 years, there has been less than 10 times I've seen another rocket car beat their house car. With Longhorn, its anyone's night. Moran, Marlar, Pierce, Sheppard, RTJ, Davenport, Hudson, any one of them can unload and are a threat to win on a national level. With Rocket, it's only their house car that is competitive on a national level.

I remember a few years ago people were saying "its the Rocket racing series" or Mark Richards racing series". Look at it now. Longhorn racing series. Both national series......... All manufacturers take turns at the top. Right now its Longhorns turn. I wouldn't be surprised if Rocket is in process of designing a new chassis to replace the XR1. Its been 8 years and 10-15 seems to be the lifespan of a specific chassis model.

Well today’s dirt racing is like pavement anyways. 99.999% of tracks are smooth dry slick and looks like pavement racing anyway. Late model technology is so advanced the cars suck on heavy rough tracks. So putting them on pavement doesn’t seem like much different anyway. Put slicks on and watch the same racing

@@stevesimonds7837 I don’t think it’s so much the tracks either I think it’s the late model it’s self, they rely on that nose to turn so everyone is getting the body’s skewed and it’s ruined the racing. Only time you see a good late model race is in the Midwest on the bullrings where that spoiler or nose don’t even really matter

I’ve seen comments stating that the dirt cars on asphalt is not going to work because of the bodies, tires etc. Others are saying that this is the wrong decision because they will be slow etc. Those comments are completely irrelevant and false. That dirt car that looked so slow that everyone thought he was pulling into the pits was turning 14 second laps. At Anderson Speedway, the asphalt late models are running 15 second lap times. The first time on track and they were turning 14 second lap times, they will get faster and it will be a good show. I remember when the sprint cars came to race at Anderson, they were turning mid 13 second lap times and slowed down to low 14 second laps.

We went to the Summer Nationals race at our home track/Spoon River Speedway last week. The series is lacking something, cars and crews all looked fresh and like they haven't been on the so called hell tour. It really just feels like an extended version of the Mars tour with just a few exceptions of national drivers the first week of course. WRG needs to bring back the 28 races in 31 days schedule or just mothball the tour. The Monday off days and weekly points have watered the product down along with the lack of series drivers following the last week when the tour heads to Michigan, Indiana and ohio. #MakeTheSummerNationalsActullyHellAgainPlease

I would be interested to see how much they have spent to recruit all these top teams or if they have at all. It seems to me like they might be using the old strategy of eliminating their competition by recruiting all the top teams like Hendrick used in nascar and if so that isn’t good for any of us.

I got smart and went to Harry Gants shop and talked to Travis Carter. He knew our car and gave me some tires to run. Asked what they were since I had to pull the inner liners out of 4. He told me we were going to run Talledegas on the right side Martinsville on the left. Boy did it work shame they put a tire rule in 2 weeks lster

Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, NC, which was dirt in the early 80’s, paved later, used to run several dirt LM shows on pavement each season. RR tires didn’t last long as I recall, and the lap times compared to the LMSC’s that run there were wildly faster! The twist? Several of the dirt drivers wound up selling their dirt cars and going asphalt racing!
