Sometimes Protecting your capital is much more important than making money. Basically because if you lose your capital, making money is much harder. ''Missing the train'' vs. ''losing your money''. There are a lot of trains, but if your money is gone, it's over.

The current economy is unnecessarily tougher for senior citizens, I’m used to just buying and holding assets which doesn’t seem applicable to the current rollercoaster market plus inflation is catching up with my portfolio. I’m really worried about survival after retirement.

I agree, that's the more reason I prefer my day to day investment decisions being guided by an advisor seeing that their entire skillset is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying off risk as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, coupled with the exclusive information/analysis they have, it's near impossible to not out-perform, been using my advisor for over 2years+ and I've netted over 2.8million....

Japanese carry trade appears to be unwinding. A major Japanese bank announced they are exiting the trade. It will cost them billions. The carry trade is around $20 trillion in Japan with a bit over $1 trillion in US bonds. When that is unwound they have to sell the assets they bought and then pay back the loans they got to fund the trade. Its a huge trade and it will be sold at a discount if it unwinds. What will happen when that trade unwinds? Can the market absorb that huge volume in assets being sold? Will this cause all assets to decline in price to compete for investing dollars? People should really look at that. It was a big issue in 2008. Now its back.

Good comment, good point. People also forget that overseas events can drive markets here. A key driver of the tech bubble was Asian money fleeing their financial crisis. I wonder how much US real estate is tied-to the carry trade, especially private residences purchased by large investors?

I'm a naive investor but hearing this bearish guy saying "If I were to sleep for 20 years I would hold Nvdia, Microsoft and Google" gave me a nice feeling of safety.

I know at some point a bull market ends and a bear begins, it goes on and on....I have a 7 figure ballpark goal and I intend spreading across maybe 50k - 150k on plummeting stocks, my question is how can I know when a market bottom has been reached?

I decided to hire a CFA, even though I was skeptical at first, and I beat the market by more than 14.3%.
