i've always liked russian art and history... years ago i bought a matryoshka doll of the imperial royal family for just under £300... i've no idea if it's worth more or less today... occasionally i find boxes like these in charity shops for a couple of quid if i'm lucky... good russian silver and old postcards are much much harder to find... but one can dream can't one?

I was a little disappointed in the trousers too; I was hoping for purple. (or puce, to use a very Georgian color name.) I still nab all the Russian hand-painted bits I run across when I find them going for cheap. Some as gifts and some for selling on... when you can find someone willing to buy Russian art. The paper mache jewelry made along side the boxes sells for pennies locally, when you can sell it at all.

I "inherited" from my Mother, a love of Russian artwork, esp in kids books, and also the brilliantly coloured 'Khokhloma' lacquered pieces, the majority of mine being from the Ukraine. Certainly I have found the availability of these, Down Under, has almost dried up over the last 10+ years (but then again, I only move in charity Op Shop circles!!!) ...... RjB.
