ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
Is it a sin to listen to non-Christian music? Is it a sin to listen to rap, metal, or other worldly music? These are some of the questions we have received over the last months. So in this video, Daniel takes some time to answer some of these questions. If you want to know if Christians should listen to secular music, then watch the full video. But in short, music is a gift from God and we are free to praise and worship Him with music. We can also listen to normal music that is in line with scripture. Music about normal things like God's creation, nature, love, and other normal things can be listened to. But when the music goes against scripture it should not be listened to. Watch the full video to understand this better.

Recently I was exploring the biblical legitimacy of all classical music as you alluded to. And looking at the spectrum of artist, composers and themes there are some very santanical portrayals in classical music as well. No I am a lot older than you both chronologically and probably in the faith and now I'm am still questioning even to get away from a lot of secular music and some Christian music also that it's not very godly. The many thing we all have to be careful is to make sure just like anything else music no matter what it is whether secular or religious should not become our God like an idol. So glad you are doing what you are doing what you are doing as to what you listen to in your Christian maturity. May the peace of Christ be with you! 🙏

@@selahchunem8447 During the course of the year, I have learned to be more wary of secular music in general; because I've noticed even if it's not outrightly explicit, it can still be subtle explicit content (I need to go back and delete some songs). And even if it's the basic of “ok, this is good”, I just don't feel the presence of God in it (which is no good).

Hi... Thank you for your loving comment and with respect I would like to tell you that Muslims who are converts to Christianity and are born again in Christ (a spiritual birth), in my opinion have the makings to be the finest of Christians because they so want to be devout in their beliefs and not lukewarm. I love listening to testimonials from ex Muslims on youtube because God has often moved in such miraculous ways to reveal Jesus as His Son and the Saviour of the world to them . There are two types of people who say they are Christians, those who are of the flesh (still carnal) and those who are of the Spirit, but the bible tells us that God is looking for those that worship Him in Spirit and in truth, therefore we must be born again (have that spiritual birth ). John 4:23-24 KJV 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3.3

They might be singing songs that do not go against the Bible but what is their personal lifestyle like. Are they promiscuous, adulterers, blasphemers, worldly etc. So it’s also the spirit behind the person singing the songs also which could penetrate our minds 🙏🏽

By this standard, any Psalm King David wrote should not be listened to. If you're looking for perfection and ideal Christian to look towards or listen to, you'll always be disappointed. As far as I know, there's only been one. But to another point, when an artist writes a song, it's to express a part of their past or their current struggles. We shouldn't place judgment on their lifestyles.... especially when are significantly more flawed.

The music scale was changed long after king David. We shouldn’t be singing along to songs about suicide, killing, hate etc. the frequencies are clearly different it’s easy to look it up. And remember Lucifer had his pipes and Timbrels built in him. Naturally music would become tainted

Most of the secular songs I listen to contain positive lyrics that helped comfort me during hard times, but it has been a struggle for me since those songs weren’t Christian, but I felt inspired and grateful whenever I listened to them. I give praise to God, even when the song wasn’t made for it. The artists behind the songs are actually Christians, and with inspirational life experiences I really find motivating. However, I still felt guilty and searched for content that talked about this, and right when he said the scripture Phillipians 4:8, I instantly felt tears in my eyes and the only thing that crossed my mind was that the songs were not the problem. They were good songs that helped me get through a situation, but the point here is where my focus truly is. Now I feel better, knowing that my fav songs are not against God, but the way I focus on it is. Putting God first and foremost before any of those songs and lifestyles is the key. Praise the Lord.

Well said! 👏Most Christian music doesn't appeal to me and I can't force myself to listen to stuff I don't like. I only like beautiful Christian hymns and the secular music I listen to has meaningful lyrics, (no cussing baspheming or disrespecting people) and usually a heartfelt back story from the artist about things they've gone through and overcome. They're Gods children too and I always praise God for the musical gifts he's given these artists to lift us up when we need it. Everything I do and the music I listen to is all for God's glory as He created the ability to enjoy good music, so He's the one who deserves the praise. It's when we start worshipping and idolizing musicians as though they are gods themselves, that's when we have to cop ourselves on. We can respect people and their God given gifts but we shouldn't worship them. Just give God thanks for all His beautiful music and creativeness. Philipians 4:8 is a wonderful example of God wanting us to experience nice things too - all for His glory 🙏🎶💓

Another great composer imo is Tchaikovsky, many of his pieces are known from ballet. Now, I could list composers endlessly but it's better to just give some pieces a listen, right? Good Christian pieces/orchestras: -Lacrimosa by Mozart (For a funeral, very sad, emotional and his last piece he didn't even finish) -Mass in B Minor by J.S.Bach (Entire mass, 2h long, my favourite piece, maybe even the greatest piece of music of all time!) -Requiem in D Minor by Mozart(Another well known piece by Mozart) Classical pieces (beautiful but not Christ themed): -Op.66 "Fantaisie-Impromptu" by Chopin (Truly enchanting fantasy like piece, my favourite piece from Chopin) -Prelude in C Major by J.S.Bach (Beautiful, peaceful piano piece) -Prelude in C-sharp Minor by Rachmaninoff (Scary and unsettling piece, while amazing at the same time)

A Swedish band called Sabaton dedicates all of their songs to the history of warfare, not to glorify war but to educate listeners to true historical battles and scenerios, most often in a negative light. I believe we should always use discretion to make sure the music we do listen to does not glorify the Evil One or his worldly sinful authority.

Listening to secular isn't necessarily bad, but why would you want to listen to it, when there are other songs that praise our Lord. We should press on to worship him in truth and spirit, at all times, in any circumstance!

I'm not concerned about who or what the music praises. As long as I can get into the beat and or the lyrics are similar to what I'm feeling at that point of time whether anger, depression or whatnot, I enjoy it.

Well, i recommended the New Testament because it holds the best news any human can ever hope for; an everlasting life in Heaven. And this can only be attained through one person, Jesus Christ. I understand u enjoy consuming Christian contents uploaded by this channel. But believe it or not, the main purpose of this is not to get one entertained. It's ment to keep a true believer of the Lord Jesus Christ firm and established in the faith as we journey through this life, with the help of the Holy Spirit. Glorifying the one true God, through His Son Jesus Christ, is the sole purpose of this channel. Tbh I'm thrilled you're expressing interests on videos such as these. It's a good sign. So why don't you get hold of a Bible and read the 4 gospels.

Truth by definition is exclusive/objective rather than personal preference. Everyone ges to believe in whatever appeals to them nowadays. But having faith in an ideology or worldview does not mean it's true. A dying man can't recognise his urgent need for a cure until he realises he has cancer. The same way we fail to recognise our sinful nature in the eyes of an infinitely pure, holy, just and righteous God. The gospel is good news, but only to men that are destitute and hopeless. Biblical Christianity is no religion. It's an exchange of life; a relationship between you and the God of the universe through His Son Jesus Christ. No one gets converted to Christianity, you get saved. (See: John 8:32, John 14:6, John 3:16)

Petra (especially the late 80s, early 90s albums for my taste) is also one of the most well known Christian rock bands! They even reference which Bible verses their lyrics are based on. Please note that music is also a drug and the most popular artists use music to manipulate you subconsciously. They use binaural beats and subliminal messages that you don't understand but it manipulates the way you think. Those vicious slaves of the devil have already caused much chaos, they have separated us from God. Keep in mind that nothing is meaningless, therefore understand fully the lyrics before you start humming the song the whole day. May God bless us all!

I personally listen to classical music and even then I make sure of where and why the song was composed and who the composer was. Even operas or symphonies have surprisingly shocking true stories behind them. In my younger days as organist, certain churches prohibited me from playing the Wedding March from Mendelsohn's "A Midsummer night's Dream".

@@pugetsound1272 hallo there. I am very glad to hear that you stopped listening to that kind of music. I may not judge, but music like that is inspired by Satan alone. Please do not understand me wrong: the only time I find out when there's something "evil" about classical music, is when some pastor/preacher mentions it. This is how I found out that one of my most favourite compositions (The Hallelujah Chorus by George Frederick Handel) had " anti Semetic undertones and were welcoming the New World Order back in 1741 when this music was composed. I then did some research and found a book written by a music scholar named Michael Marissen with the title "Tainted Glory in Handel's Messiah: the unsettling history of the world's most beloved choral work." By the way I have not read the book myself yet. I know for a fact Mozart belonged to the Free Masons and died of syphilis at the age of 33, but that is not enough reason for me to stop listening to the most beautiful music of a musician God Almighty endowed with so much wonderful talent. The reason I was prohibited in playing the Wedding March at churches years ago, is that in the very first performance in Feb 1827, that particular scene had nude scenes in the Wedding March scene. Puget Sound, I can assure you: listen to classical music and you cannot go wrong. God bless you.
