    The only thing it didn't talk about is the fact that the powder HMB calcium salt tastes like literal acidic bunghole.

    1:29 Ppl over 40 who have "anabolic resistance" can ingest up to 4 grams of leucine to overcome the resistance. 2:05 HMB is a metabolite of leucine. 2:58 Leucine is the key AA for promoting muscle protein synthesis. 3:06 HMB is like the other side of the coin. HMB favors anti-catabolic effects in muscle. 3:15 Muscle growth comes about because of two processes. Increased anabolic effect of muscle such as increased muscle protein synthesis. The other thing is decreased muscle breakdown which would be anti catabolic effect. 3:32 When you combine the two, you have increased muscle size and strength. So anti catabolic effects are very important. The problem is anti-catabolic effects are not as potent as anabolic effects. 4:00 Leucine only converts to a little bit of HMB. 5:20 Untrained human subjects with 3g of HMB per day... HMB > Placebo 13:15 Who will HMB help? 17:44 HMB show almost no effect on muscle soreness. Muscle soreness may be improved with fish oil and vitamin C. 18:11 HMB and leucine for muscle protein synthesis. Leucine anabolism (+110%) > HMB anabolism (+70%) 18:24 3g HMB/day vs usual creatine ingestion: Creatine was 3x more effective for promoting gaining lean mass compared to HMB. 18:51 HMB is expensive. 19:00 HMB is safe. 19:10 19:25 (funny lol.) 19:40 Avg advanced trainee who aren't doing new things won't see results from HMB.

    I subscribe to Jerry's news letter and it is world class information. He goes at great length to explain thing in an understandable manner and provides the references he uses to come to his conclusions.

    I was looking to subscribe as well. I am an M.D., I can read his literature all I want, but at the end of the day, volume and frequency of training is what will produce the results. You cannot outsmart hard ass work at the gym, consistency, and forcing yourself eat a bland diet day in and day out. The limiting factor is motivation, not lack of physiology knowledge.

    This is what people don't understand about HMB. HMB IS NOT SUPPOSED TO INCREASE STRENGTH OR MUSCLE MASS...it is designed to prevent muscle loss. In my case, I barely sleep at all due to protracted benzodiazepine withdrawal so making and holding onto gains is virtually impossible. HMB supplementation at a dose of 3 grams throughout the day has, as far as I can tell, almost completely stopped the muscle loss I was experiencing before almost entirely and is allowing me to make progress with my physique in spite of the extremely low levels of sleep I get. HMB is incredible for its intended purpose and very useful to those dealing with extenuating circumstances that prevent them from maintaining above average levels of muscle tissue.

    I literally just got done leaving a similar comment on an IG post in response to someone who was talking about the effects of hmb but as a muscle builder and of course they were negative. I was confused lol I supplement HMB but never viewed it as a muscle builder. His caption was is hmb a magic pill for muscle building or something along those lines

    Wow, you know what I'm thinking listening to these dates. I have been taking HMB for 23 years now , ' ) started in 1998 I take a Glutamine with each one. Take once or twice a day when needed for stress, mental or physical stress. And I love the transparent NOW bottle, old days Twin Labs packaging sucked.

    I'm going into my second month using HMB taking 1 gram three times per day. I'm 68 years old and a natural ultra masters bodybuilder competitor. I have notice a decline in DOMS. I'm preparing for the Venice Muscle Beach Classic on May 29, 2017. Before the contest I also plan for another DEXA test to compare from my previous DEXA test. I'm not expecting miracles. At my age marginal improvements will be gratifying results. Thanks on the calcium HMB information. Is the following the study you referred to:? The Relative Bioavailability of the Calcium Salt of β-Hydroxy-β-Methylbutyrate Is Greater Than That of the Free Fatty Acid Form in Rats

    I am 80 and my main sport is not lifting weights but sprint running. Anyway I want to keep my musles without gaining much weight which could affect adversaly in the running speed. Also my wife has nefropatia so we need to limit foods with much protein. I am fully vegan and on methionine restriction. I believe HMB is solution for me. Used it 10 yrs ago

    That's funny, I never heard the term, "works like deca" back then. However, from the beginning I had read that the way HMB mimicked steroids was by it's anticatabolic effects. So at the time I would have thought this was all understood...??? But no it had no noticeable effect for me at the time, maybe it would help now...??? But the 4 grams of Leucine sounded promising...

    Keto and hmb is a recommended combo i keep hearing. If someone is doing a prolonged fast 4-5 days , and fasting is similar if not the same as the keto diet, could hmb help to keep lean mass while an individual is fasting? Does hmb nullify the benefits of fasting (cleansing, etc)?

    Totally agree with that. YOu can eat shit and will still grow in the first years of training! its over priced and wasnt worth the price for the returns - better to just juice! ;-)

    after 15 years of tarining, i took hmb for 1st time, i can easily say hmb is much more effective than bcaa for me. i get much better result with. i took about 4 gram a day.

    What about for someone like me who works construction? Whenever I’m deep into a job even though I still go to the gym after work, my strength goes WAY down until I take a break from construction. Then my strength quickly goes back up.

    Cloyd Dowling I train fasted and warrior diet...I take 3 grams of hmb, recent studies are more shown for preserving muscle gains than gaining strength etc ...but I always train hard and heavy low reps and I haven’t lost strength it’s maintained and sometimes I’ll hit a PR

    I've been lifting for a long time, but I've also been on and off for the last few years. I just started back up again about 5 months ago and i shot up almost 15 lbs in about 4 months and I'm pretty much as lean as I was when I started. Granted, you pick up mass a lotttttttt faster if you've been bigger before. But, I've come back with nothing but food and protein powder more times than I count and this stuff definitely worked wayyy better for me. Strength went up a lot, fast too. I was adding 5-10 lbs on lifts every week with the same control and for the same reps as the week before. I thought it was great

    HMB was overhyped at first and thus dismissed. But it is actually a very good supplement -- if you take enough. Then again, you can just take extra Leucine.

    The half-life for hmb is relatively quick, 4-6 hours. So spreading it out is better

    I mix it with protein and all the aminos jus to cover all bases . It works . Regardless of cutting or bulking . It helps with DOMs and recovery . Which in turn helps with building muscle and muscle wasting . It really helps with recovery 💯

    NTS: 17:44 HMB show almost no effect on muscle soreness. Muscle soreness may be improved with fish oil and vitamin C.

    I did not take HMB back in the 1990s when it was on the rise. I am taking it now. Muscletech of course. I am going to finish the bottle. If you see a flying man going around saving people in distress, that would be me.

    I learned about HMB from Dr. Volkovich, WSU, he went to work at e.a.s. in 96 or 97 to do HMB Studies.
