    I'm from Asia and I only ever heard about CELINE when Lisa started representing the brand. I also understand why Hedi chose Lisa to be his muse/brand ambassador - not only is she currently the most famous/influential Asian popstar, she can also rock androgynous fashion flawlessly.

    I will buy Hedi Slimane's Celine now, because when he's gone, the next stuff will not be as good. The best and most desirable Saint Laurent pieces are still from Hedi Slimane. The next designer will be mimmicking him. Right now, you get the real deal. The work of a visionary.

    I love fashion, but I love Celine since the time of Hedi, clothes became rock, sexy, fun. I love Lisa's fresh, youthful style, being her GA, made it the most desirable light clothing, I'm from Latin America and I've been able to give myself the pleasure of having branded garments.

    The Kpop phenomenon is the most telling. I was waiting for you to mention it. It's by no coincidence that Hedi has designed for 2 houses that half of Blackpink are ambassadors of. And it's not just Celine, as the a previous poster commented, Asia is the place these luxury houses are anchoring themselves. I've been noticing it in the makeup industry as well. Pheobe's Celine had a clever quirkiness and intellectualism about. It spoke to the soul of women. No shade, but that's not for everyone LOL. So Hedi is definitely a money maker. He speaks to the the desires of the youth he need that sort of direction of whats cool. He's simplistic & sexy. Translates easier across the board. But luckily on the other side of that coin, Pheobe is coming back and we still have the designers that want make wardrobe based clothing for today's modern day client.

    Agree with everything and no shade thrown. PP's intellectual fashion is super niche, it will never reach the heights of LV, Chanel, etc but I think that customer really appreciates that in the age of ultra-hyped fashion. Thank you so much for watching❤❤❤

    I must say that conceptually, I love Phoebe Philo. But in terms of "real life clothes", Hedi Slimane designs feel much more relatable. Shirts and denim, leather jackets... Much closer from what I would buy and wear on a daily basis. Phoebe Philo pieces felt too strong and serious for the 24yo me 🙃 I also love that yes he emphasis Lisa, but also Catherine Deneuve. So not just young girls.

    I think Hedi was able to bring the brand to the next level, very different from Phoebe, but that’s how luxury brands operate, you need constantly to evolve to grow. The coolness factor for Celine has evolved from modern empowering self-made woman to modern young cool woman. The age demographic I think the brand caters to changed with Hedi. I really loved his fragrance line for the house, there’s even a stand alone fragrance boutique in Paris

    I agree with you, the creative director role has always been important to me. If I’m buying Celine, I want to know that Heidi had some part in creating jt. I’m buying the piece to aspire to be a part of that achingly cool group Heidi designs for. After Daniel Lee was fired from Bottega, I wanted to wait to see who was going to fill that role and if I wanted to buy into a piece of their vision for the brand. Otherwise I’d feel like I’d bought the leftovers of the old creative director. Certainly, but what you love, but I am totally influenced by the CD role. When I buy all white Stan smiths, I want to feel as cool as Pheobe lol. I know it’s a stretch lol.

  • @MarysRoom

    @MarysRoom

    Fully agree Pat! That "achingly cool" is quintessential Hedi or that effortlessly chic is Phoebe. It's how each CD interprets the brand and that artistic touch is that difference between a luxury piece vs a contemporary inspiration. Not a stretch at all lol! Thank you so much for watching❤

    Great video! I liked old Celine and I love new Celine. Definitely agree Hedi is one of the few designers who sticks to his game these days. Sadly, I don't think Phoebe is going to have the same success at her new brand, it's a whole other topic but I think many designers get one chance, much like artists where all the stars align and they shine.

    @@MarysRoom I think it's a rare set of circumstances for a designer to shine which is rarely repeated again. Phoebe's Celine was the right time, right brand, right designer, even global events and general art scene. Not many designers go on to recreate that magic. Tom Ford's Gucci comes to mind. Magic at Gucci, and good afterwards in his signature brand, but the magic slowly died in my opinion.

    As an European, I don't associate Hedi with the parisian style, I mean that one was always always present, and there are these brands from France, not so luxurious but not fast fashion either that are even more into parisian aestethic then he is. Also, his latest collection I find this attempt of trying CopenCore but for the youngers (Copenhagen is new Paris here for quite a few seasons, and really really popular, he got especially this savage shoes out of there for sure, and also some super short items especially upper parts, but Copenhagen is kinda more mature then his collection was, also colors are there, but we are now moving on to Portugal, or better say Portugal's variation of CopenCore, probably crazy for american minimalist, but we are like this in Europe, and trust me new maximalism era will come sooner then expected) Anyway, I don't dislike him. I actually think he did some good stuff. He is no Phoebe Philo, but I can get why a lot of people likes him.

    New Celine is not bad but idk, there’s something missing to me. I don’t see anything that differentiates it from other brands. Is one of the bunch. Yes it generates more money than old Celine, but it like current Balenciaga it is successful but it doesn’t mean it has been the best Balenciaga in history. It depends from the culture of the moment, which not always translate as better or good

    There's a lot of noise in support for Phoebe online, and often they're anti-Hedi. The cynic in me thinks all of this support is merely performative, and that they will not be supporting Phoebe in the way that it really counts which is financially. I do not think that many of the people who talk the talk will be walking the walk.

    Interesting points. I do think just from reading a lot of press at the time the anti-Hedi hate was kind of overblown. But based on PPs track record, if she continues to create bags or even accessories like sunglasses, she will do fine from a commercial LVMH perspective. Thank you for watching!

    Yes, I like knowing who the designer director is when I purchase things. I think it makes a huge difference. For example, I loved Marc Jacob when he was working under LV before Nicolas Ghesquière took over. After Nicolas took over, he brought over the Balenciaga motercycle bag vibe and I think destroyed LV's aesthetics. I have not bought from LV since believe it or not. Also, LV recently selected Pharrell Williams to be the men's design director which I think LV lost a lot of credibility there by selecting him. He is a great singer and songwriter but as a design director...NO! I believe one really need to work and be schooled in fashion, the arts and history to understand the use of fabric, design, texture, and movement to be able to bring it to the role. In addition, they need to have years of working in different fashion houses to be able to be a design director for a large, luxury, and historical fashion house. He definitely can be a design director for some small mid or lower end brands but not LV. Literally they hired someone who isn't qualify for pop culture's satisfaction. Sorry, I don't mean to be so mean but just being honest. So, for that, I think LV (and Gucci) has been the fast fashion (aka Forever 21) of luxury brands. Btw, your videos have been really inspired me to look into Phoebe now.

    Yes I'm the same. I want to know the creative direction, vision and how that designer is going to impact the legacy of the brand. I was Pheobe Philo’s CÉLINE’s exact demographic - working (managerial class) woman in her 30s. After she left and Hedi Slimane took over, doing a complete overhaul of the style and philosophy, I felt abandoned (genuinely 🥲). His designs are just not my aesthetic at all. Ever since her departure I’m still in search of a fashion house I identify with in the same way that old CÉLINE once did. Maybe bottega, the row, Hermes? 🤷🏻

  • @MarysRoom

    @MarysRoom

    Yeah as similar as The Row, Hermes, even Bottega are, PP had a touch of eccentricity that made workwear enjoyable but still powerful. I honestly think her own personal experience, as a career woman, a business woman and mother, can't really be replicated by the Olsens, Daniel Lee or Mattheu Blazy, etc. This experience that so many woman have, which is under-represented in a male-dominated industry, finally could be expressed through fashion. Thank you so much for watching Emiii❤️
