Is He Really Going To Fold THREE ACES?! (£100,000 Buy-in)
Ойындар
Dan "Jungleman" Cates is an absolute madman, legendary for his gangster exploits on the felt. You just never know what this guy is capable of when it comes to making sick laydowns and thin calls. But when there are millions of dollars up top, can he REALLY let go of flopped trips in a spot like this?

You wanna mix in some small and some large tank tops to make sure you’re balancing your range correctly
The stack sizes is what makes this a particularly impressive fold.
Yea that is a great fold. That's a fold not concerned with payout pressure or intimidated, just a fantastic decision.
@herzwatithink9289

It really is. Because the hand you're most likely losing to is the flopped boat. Added to the fact there are seven Ax's you're beating and one you're chopping with, only two suited aces (that aren't AQ/AK) you're losing to, and you're getting 4-1 your money. It's not a great board for a river bluff, but KQh and KJh are still possible.
@moonshine_blade8266
4 жыл бұрын
@@herzwatithink9289 did you watch the hand and listen what Jeff said? KJh not possible, look at junglemans hand. I guess jungleman thought his hand with his stack is so face up and commited to a call on the river that a bluff isnt really out there with that kind of player and any weaker ace will just call the riverbet instead of shoving, A3s, A6s, A9s, 33,66,99, are most likely, any better ace also is raising on flop or turn having a flush draw out there
@herzwatithink9289
4 жыл бұрын
@@moonshine_blade8266 True, KQh only. Not true that players won't often shove a weaker ace on the river, especially given the stack sizes. Might be reckless, but they still do, and AT will be a value push for a lot of players. You can't say a river bluff isn't out there when jungleman folded. What you can say is it's unlikely he'd be doing it without something like KQh, with mid to high pair bluffs being unlikely once jungleman fires the third barrel. But I agree that you wouldn't want to assign much credence to pure river steals, and when it's a bad board for that anyway, it seems unlikely. I also agree that he really looks pot committed, which makes it even less likely. I don't know Phua, but he looks like a crazy Asian, and that complicates things. From my live play there are too many times crazy Asian players are wont to reraise pre-flop with 33 and 66 with position on the opener and I don't want that to be the case here, because those are two of the three hands I'm worried about by the time the dust settles. I'd originally thought jungleman was in the cutoff and Phua had the button, where 99, AQ and AK are almost obligatory three bets, so that changes things a fair bit, when even 99 and AQ are call/raise hands. I still think it unlikely Phua goes past the turn with 99, but it is possible. You're right that this is an incredibly disciplined fold.

Your videos have been a huge help for me. I've played maybe 7 or 8 live tournaments in my area. Buddy of mine got me into it. And I went from basically folding everything unless I was for sure to win just to last long enough to make it worth it to come out. To playing aggressive with a good mix of bluffs and guaranteed wins to create a nice stack and actually make it to the river to pull the card I needed.
Jungle definitely had the same read I have on Paul. I can see it. He can see it. We both know it’s gonna be there, but we won’t say what it is.

sick how you can learn to construct your ranges by just watching these videos. good work man!
I think jungle folded partially because what Phul said about the time chip. Phul said it twice, so it seems like he didn't want Jungleman to time out accidentally. Time out = fold, so Phul doesn't showed that he doesn't want Jungleman to fold.

Hahaha getting Negranu's masterclass during your videos, when are you going to get upswing on KZread 😉
the two ways to play this are as follows. When you get a bet into on the flop you can find out right there if he has an ace, and if he does you will get called with just about any raise or all in you throw out there. The other line is to just call like he did but when you all in on the river it becomes a tough spot for 3 aces because a lot more hands beat him, A with a K, Q, 6, 3, or 9, any pocket pair of 3s, 6s, or 9s that reasonably call on the flop, the only hand he's beating that would do this on the river is a missed flush draw, everything else simply would call it down for the showdown value. Probably best to min-raise at that point, pricing in your opponent, he ended up folding here to the allin, but maybe doesn't to a min raise.
goddamn I love Jungleman and his big old head. dude like BRAIN BLAST!!!1111!!!!

I've lost most money holding top trips and losing to boats that sprung the trap on the river. What a beast Jungleman is. With his betting line he would've made max value against other worse value hands too.
Yes it's easy to say this when you can see the cards but Phua does look very relaxed during the entire hand. Perhaps soemthing Cates picked up on

nice to see doug review a spicy hand
Given villain's line, his range is heavily weighted towards nutted hands. If he can somehow pull this play off with a missed flush draw with the preflop action, on that board, being bet into 3 times, more power too him.
Just loved how the commentator freaked out :D
Wish I watched this yesterday. Exact same scenario....hero 8s9s, flop 838, villain has 33.
As long as you make those videos I will have hope to become pro someday.
Such a tough decision! He's gotta think of has the other player Shown a Bluff in this phase of the Tournament....The Smooth Call on the Flop was STRONG, and Cates Figured it Out. IF Phua (In Position & w/Bigger Stack) was on a Draw, he would have jammed All In on the Flop.... Great Fold!
Think you have to bet river to figure out where you stand. Very rare would a river reraise all in be a bluff if you preflop raised and barreled flop turn river. Still extremely difficult fold and why Jungleman is highly respected as a top player.
Maybe Paul gave the "tell" by warning the guy that the time is about to end.

These pros dont make tournement life decisik s based off tells.
Phua helped the decision in my view... he acted super strong following Jungle's river bet.. his table talk also seemed to indicate strength. super sick fold from Jungle. I also wonder that since Jungle knows that Phua plays mostly short deck now, and those players pre-flop limp premium hands much more often, he judged it more likely that Phua may have AQ or AK in that spot.
I lost with trip aces before too on a all in shove, freaking painful when the guy catches a luck river card makes a flush:(((((
I was surprised to hear Doug say that the 9 was a good card for Jungle. Because now he's losing to 99 and A9, and he's really just beating AT (as the announcers pointed out). And, AT seems unlikely to jam the river there. So he's really only beating bluffs, and he's losing to AK, AQ, A9, A6, A3, 33, 66, 99. What are the pure bluffs in Paul's range? Missed heart flush draws - that's it. It seems like Paul's value range contains a lot more combos than his bluffing range.
Reflective glasses and poker ? Does that work ?
This fold wasn’t hard. Jungle looked at Paul and knew he had it. He picked up a live tell that indicated 33. I saw it too. I won’t share it here but I saw it and so did Jungle and it’s real. The tanking was only so Paul wouldn’t know that his 33 tell had been spotted.

I don't know Paul, but unless my opponent is capable of playing a really deep game, his 'gentlemanly' warning that I've run out of time bank plaques & should act before I have a dead hand would never come from a bluffer. Hence a sensible fold.
Great fold Jungle Man......Now I know how you put it to Patrick Antonius
Doug Polk got shoulders now. Respect brother
10:10 my man paul got 2 pairs of glasses on 😐
The fold is awesome but how about checking over on the river. Not much is calling here that is behind in this situation. Paul is an action player so I understand looking to play it straight forward to induce a bluff raise however if we check over we will probably get a good price on the pot and get to showdown possibly for the price jungleman laid initially, and if we call and were good then we get the pot. This was a great play, but like in chess when you see a good move look for a better one.
What are you normally supposed to do when you at the bottom of your value range and facing a big bet on the river? fold?
Was hoping you’d break this one down!
11 AM Pacific every day except today and yesterday
every time I flop a tight and someone has trips they call my raise then get a runner runner or hit their other card
This would be a really hard hand for me if I were in Cates' shoes... Because I wouldn't think the opponent is that stupid to call with 33 preflop (I mean that is idiotic - calling 1/10th of a stack of the 20BB-stack with 33). Depending on the rest of the stacks to the left, the 33 is an instant raise all in for me pre. People making stupid plays makes the game really hard - hard to put them on a hand.

Jungle showing us all how to bet three streets with the top of his range just to fold the river when he's beat all on 20 blinds. Well done sir.
It‘s a bit of a give away that Paul tells jungleman he s out of time banks. By that he ensured jungleman doesnt fold the hand accidentally
Great fold. Worth considering a call without a Jh tho.
Great fold but I think the possibility of Phua ever bluffing that spot is almost zero. Sure he is a rich fish kind of player, but he plays with very good poker players for a lot of money all the time. He must have some understanding of the game. And that spot being a very very bad spot to bluff is part of such understanding. So I think Jungleman realizes that too.
You have to remember everything you do at the table conveys information.
Raising preflop with A-J out of position is usually dangerous, especially if your opponent calls with a pocket pair.

How do you know if someone is subscribed or not? Doe,s it tell you on youtube..?
You almost should never fold here, but Phua seemed sooooo comfortable and was talking with confidence, I don't know if someone can do that while trying to bluff someone off of 3 Aces on that kind of board. If the guy is a tight player who doesn't run hugh bluffs and he seems soooooo confidence on the river I guess you can definitely consider a fold.
Once he saw the boat had flopped, Jungleman flipped the ship.
