    As an avid final fantasy fan who lost large chunks of his life to the original version and a fairly large chunk with this version I agree, the game is great, but its not the complete package. the extensions to characters backstories did make up for this some but I am very much looking forward to having the complete trilogy as one package.

    Thanks, much appreciated! I'm definitely going to keep following up with the FFVII games, and I'm planning on reviewing Crisis Core Remake on the day Rebirth comes out. But uh... sidenote, maaaybe don't watch my Baldur's Gate 3 video. I was very critical and people really didn't like that. ^-^;; Upside, speaking of fantasy RPGs, I just did God of War Ragnarök Valhalla, so there's that.

    Subscribed, really enjoyed the video. This channel deserves more subs!!! I've only played and finished the remake once, but I feel Square Enix just wanted to pad out the old balance sheet by splitting the game up into three bits. I'm a big fan of the original game and I've always seen the Midgar section as a tutorial section, You defeat ShinRa and then you learn about the true enemy of the game. Anyways, just wanted to say I really enjoyed the video.

    Yeah I had a debate with my buddy McFly after I reviewed it. The original game came out on 3 discs, and so now it seems as though theyre remaking one disc at a time. Problem is, when you bought the original, you got all 3 at once. Now we have to pay the full price of the game 3 times.

    Iam one of them, but how iam supposed to enjoy anything in this Game? it pretty much shits on the legend that is FF7 with all the changes, and comes with all the bad gameplay changes that came from all the awfull FF Games after 10. Combined with the disgusting padding to fill the game time and wanting the Player to pay 3 fucking times to get the whole Game. There is realy nothing to like here if you arent hardcore into the newer JRPGs, which iam not.

    Speaking to your last point about how the game ends at point 7 of 30, while you go to many more locations in the OG FF7, the game’s script plot wise actually is heavily front loaded in the midgar section, which houses about a third of all the dialogue in the game. How they end up pacing the next two titles is up in the air, but I don’t think where the game ends compared to the original is as much of an issue as you may think it is (at least right now, since the other two games could always end up not going through everything thoroughly enough)

    The combat was fine the problem is the ai targeting only the person you control. Its super annoying and forces playstyles and forces you to use the quick menu instead of being able to actually enjoy the character you want.

  • @lonewolfex

    @lonewolfex

    5 ай бұрын

    I understand the complaint, but at the same time, the enemy AI only targeting the player-controlled character means that you can manipulate enemies by drawing their aggro away from the character you want to control or keep safe at will. Say if you mostly want to play as Cloud, and you start getting rushed down in a way thats preventing you from channeling a given ability, you can swap to Tifa just to get the enemy to look at her instead before swapping back to Cloud. You could argue it's lazier, but it also gives you more control over the pace of the fight.

  • @NoxLegend1

    @NoxLegend1

    @@lonewolfex I mean them giving me a solution to a problem they created isn't exactly anything interesting or a cool gameplay mechanic. It funnels you into doing exactly that which is limiting your playstyle and as you said that is the way the game is meant to be played. By playing against the ai targeting. That is what the complaint is about. That is not fun because it means you have to constantly play hotseat or tank with cloud. Its not lazier its more tedious because it becomes a game of menus and buttons and you are focused on the menu selection rather than the gameplay you don't even really look at your characters if you are trying to be efficient or on hard mode/underleveled/challenge runs. You also have no time to enjoy or view combat because the longer you stay on one character in thier animation the faster you will be targeted or manipulated. So you essentially cannot cast 3rd level spells while in control of a character or you will be interrupted. The worst offender and an easy example is Sephiroth and Bahamut who's entire gimmick is that they have like a 0.4 second targeting time and many other bosses have this. You can experience it yourself by just cycling through characters and watch their head spin tracking each character you switch to and the second part of their gimmick is they have almost immediate atb refill so you can easily see this poor aspect of the combat system in action by them firing at whoever the targeting was landed on while you were cycling. This is noticeable on normal or easy in most cases out of boss fights in that since you just tank the damage you never really think of it. It's just bad design and like you said "being good" or "being efficient" means playing hotseat knowing that the ai will target the last person you controlled before their atb is filled. I don't think its a cool minigame. It's like playing in reverse. Instead of playing different builds or trying new playstyles the game wants you to just manipulate the ai targeting. For example if you had non weighted targeting then you could play as a healer and designate your tank build to front line. But you cannot play as a healer because you are always the tank no matter what you do. Less player agency and a basic enemy ai gimmick just ruins this otherwise interesting combat system. It comes down to having no ai in your party because they did not want to build any ai functions for your party members and/or more complex ai for the enemy. So their way around having to do this was essentially make the enemy only target you and so your party memebers rarely take damage but they also just stand theere mindlessly.

  • @lonewolfex

    @lonewolfex

    Жыл бұрын

    True, but you bought all 3 discs as a single unit. I agree that the game's quality is worth the $70, but it isn't worth it if you wanted an actual remake of the full game rather than a reimagining. And in fairness, the creator did announce that the games would be releasing like that in a press release, but few casual fans will know that; so calling it FFVII Remake when you get less than a 3rd of the game remade will leave people disappointed.

    i mean, i feel like most people that are buying the remake of a 1997 game have played the original and are more on the loop than most other consumers, so i doubt there's a significant portion of ff7 fans that did not realize its not the full game before release. And for those playing ff7 for the first time through the remake, its kinda like an infinity war situation, most people who went to see that movie didnt know it was the first part of a duology of movies, but since it was really good, the movie ending on a cliffhanger created excitement for the next part rather than disapointment for having to go watch the next one. @@lonewolfex

  • @GhostSanctuary7

    Warning: SPOILERS I genuinely don't understand why people think this isn't a complete game. When you think about the lore, it makes more sense to make it a somewhat episodic experience. This isn't just a remake but also a sequel to the original game. They're alternating the story by defeating the whispers, who are trying to prevent them from making different decisions and actions than they made in the original timeline. Either this means we're gonna get to make choices, like in Life Is Strange, or the story is going to be much different than the original. And based on how players review each game, Square Enix will take the feedback and make the next game better in some way. Rebirth is going to be an open world experience, which that was one of the main criticisms of FF7R was that its not open world like the original. If they took everything from the original game, and squeeze it all into one or two discs and call it good, not only would it take literally years because the story is so long, it would be over 300+ gigabytes which is insane. It wouldn't do this game justice. I'm glad they separated it into longer parts and putting time into the quality of the games. This is a complete game, its just not the full story. Just like any game series with sequels.

    If the entire 26-minute review only existed between 24:27 and 24:52, and the scores didn't exist, then yes. If you came here wanting a full remake of Final Fantasy 7, we haven't gotten that yet, so I don't recommend the game on that principle. You do, however, get the same amount of game to play time-wise, despite only making it a 3rd of the way through the story, and that game is very good; so you can do with that information what you want.

    If you dont mind the chore of having to beat it for a 3rd time, then I would say it is. Intergrade changes the entire endgame by adding additional challenge mode simulations, along with the hardest boss in the game that can only be fought on hard mode. And the Fort Condor autochess thing that I played too much of. Lol Besides, the devs are effectively making Yuffie a main character instead of an optional one, so it would probably be good for you to get her part of the story before Rebirth comes out.

    Except that the remake was created by the same three original writers/directors/character designers heading the project almost exactly as they headed the first one. Whether we like it or not, it isn't a disgrace to the original, it's what the original creators wished the original could have been.
