I was lucky enough to go on this dive with Nick and the Dive SAGA crew in 2022 and it was one of the most thrilling and memorable experiences of my life. Just so humbling to observe them in close proximity. As good as the footage looks, it's really something you need to see for yourself to fully appreciate it! I left that experience daydreaming about how evolution has worked over hundreds of millions of years to create such a perfect ocean predator.

Thanks for watching and definitely thank you for taking the time to comment. They are definitely prime examples of evolutionary perfection and I'm happy every time I hear they install awe and not fear!

I dived with these beauties a few times over the last few years in playa del Carmen. An absolute privilege, has to be experienced to appreciate the grace of these apex predators. Great footage, thanks for sharing. 🦈 🤿😁

I've never scuba dived (dove?) but I love to watch footage of it. Maybe I'll get the nerve someday. I do love to watch shark footage the most. Beautiful!

Yes sharks are amazing!! It's always such a privilege to dive with them. You should definitely try scuba. Once you get over the initial trepidation, it's awesome! 👊

Thank you! I don't think I'll get anyone near Jonathan Bird, but it's definitely a niche that's underserved so hopefully I can contribute a small piece as well! 🖤

Just did the dive yesterday, definitely a different experience. Our viz was terrible though -- so we saw maybe three or four? But still they made a few close (non aggressive) passes. Totally comfortable experience.

Ok, I'll bite (pun intended🦈), I don't see baited dives as something for which the jury's still out. The disadvantages are obvious and I think you covered most of them. I'd only add attracting sharks closer to shore in a lot of cases - boat fuel's expensive. As divers (and dive professionals should arguably be held to even higher standards) it's also our job to educate our service providers. The math is quite simple: as long as there are divers willing to participate in baited dives (demand), there will be supply. Personally I choose not to support this and I always ask whether there will be baiting/chumming before booking a so-called "shark dive". You can still get shift in economy by organizing shark-oriented dives without baiting, as long as nobody's doing it. Even leaving the environmental arguments aside, meeting one (or more) of these guys in during an normal (un-baited) dive is a privilege you're not going to forget anytime soon. Having them "guaranteed" takes away from the experience, making in somewhat artificial.

I always appreciate a good pun! Especially when it's followed by a coherent and respectfully worded opinion, so thank you for that! Refreshing from the way people often voice things on this app 🙂 I do agree that in a perfect world everyone would stop baiting all at once and we could just switch to casual sightings. I need to point out that my dives were not with the organization that feeds, but afterwards, with a regular dive guide. (The sharks stay around quite a bit after feeding time so you can kinda just go down the same line and see the sharks coming around and checking). But of course that's kinda like saying "the cow was already dead so I'm basically a vegetarian". It supports your point that as long as some are feeding, everyone will of course organize themselves around that because it provides the most spectacle. As I mentioned in the video, I'm not one to have intense arguments but I do always attentively read people's arguments for an against and will definitely use them to continue to make up my mind. Thank you for watching and thank you for caring! 🙏

@@DiveSAGA I appreciate your answer, these things tend to get quite polarizing. The simple fact we're talking about it means that that can change in the future 😄 Thanks and keep on the good work!
