I think it would be great for you to do a full review. There needs to be more reviews from people who actually understand what the game is trying to do. Nintendolife, for example, gave this game a 4/10 and from reading their review, it was primarily because they were grading it from the typical RPG experience. And I've seen people get entirely turned off of even trying it and cited the negative reviews as the reason

I really enjoy this game. It is very addictive and it hits that "Chao Garden" itch which is massively underserved. It also makes me wonder a lot about the realities of this genre's fantasy, in a way a lot of content just doesn't anymore. That is something I rate pretty highly in its importance to me. This game definitely isn't for everyone, but when you see things like the popularity of Animal Crossing or the demand for a new Chao Garden - it's hard not to think that it's potential audience is a lot bigger than its actual audience.

"Chao Garden Itch", My wife & I literally miss our digimon when we're not home and it reminds me of when I had the V1 Digivice in Kindergarten and would know imma go home and find them with a screen full of poop 💙💎💙

As a note for those stuck in where to go, this game is very based on how many digimon you bring back to town. If it doesn't have a direct objective for you to do, you haven't recruited enough digimon. Which Jijimon sends you a message saying to go out and recruit more digimon. Talk to Botamon in Jijimon's house. He will give you hints on who is able to be recruited at the current time and what area of the map they are located in. Most people get stuck because they can't figure out where to go next. It's all about general progression. Ignore the alternate colored digimon you can talk to. You can not recruit them. They can give some useful items early on, but they are more of a waste of time for the most part. After your second life, i don't think any of them give any items that really make any difference to you. This is not a game for everyone 100%. All the negative reviews on it are almost identical to what DW1 suffered from 20 years ago.(besides the full price tag which is reasonable). Some hints for people just starting up, use your digimons first life to go around collecting material upgrades and items to sell for bits. rush the easy recruits for the basic starting stuff in the city. Rushing Wormon right away gets you a fishing rod, which is an excellent source of money. Rushing Numemon gets you a free porta potty every day. Rushing Birdramon and Biyomon gets you the fast travel and free ports every 5 uses. rushing Tentomon gets you the shop right away. Don't be a gym training nut! All this does is kill off your partners faster to be honest. Make use of all of your time collecting materials and items for bits. Stock up healing materials. use your first life doing only that. Fishing is probably the best use of your time after you rush out those early essential recruits i stated above. You need tamer levels more than you need stats that first life, and collecting materials is the fastest way to level by far. Map out your tamer skills before you start. I recommend Extended Life, Battle Bits/Stats reward, Defend Order, and Ressurection stats for your first upgrades. After that, a Bag slot upgrade or two, but it's ultimately up to you. The extended life ones are the only ones that really make a big difference early on. Once you pass to your second generation, dump all your money into recovery disks(HP and MP disks) and bandages. Train your stats at the gym to around 200 or so. Then go out and start fighting digimon in the starting areas. You will gain stats far faster in terms of in game time than by using the gym. You can get hundreds of stats in a matter of an hour or two of in game time compared to 150 in a single stat using the gym. Don't waste time on digimon that take forever to kill. Just kill what dies easily and give you good stats(15+ each fight) and fight them 1 on 1 so you can get the most stats out of them. This will be very expensive on your money, which is why i said to spend that first life collecting stuff and making money. Get to around 1,500-2,000 stats give or take fighting digimon before you start pushing the story. once you are around that point, your digimon will eventually go mega stage, and you can rush through the first couple of acts in the game. Once you finish the first act, you have access to pretty much everything you need going forward. Use this generation of digimon to push as far forward as you can, and upgrade your city as often as you can. Recommend upgrading your field, restaurant and shops early. Once you unlock the fishing hole, start upgrading that asap. Getting fishing hole to at least level 3 is one of the best money farms you can do until you can fight the end game monsters. Level 1 and 2 are meh for it, you can get the same stuff 5 feet outside of Floatia as you will find there easily. but level 3 has a bunch of expensive fish in it. The second you have access to the Wastelands(i think that's end of act 2?), rush to Sorcerermon and Recruit him and Garurumon. On Friday's i believe it is, he will teleport you to Absolute Zero. Go around and talk to all the digimon outside of the palace. They'll allow you to unlock the best Restaurant Chef(Seraphimon). you will want to use him for every meal possible. your stats will start growing like crazy by doing so. If you don't recruit Sorcerermon, you've still got a large chunk of the game left to get through before you can get to Absolute Zero normally. You can fast travel with birdramon after that first teleport. From here on out the game is fairly strait forward. There are a lot of fetch quests in this point of the game, but just save before talking to any ultimate or mega digimon in the area. A lot of them do want to fight, and they will kick your ass hard unless you are also Mega level, with ExE available to use. Spend time upgrading your city, farming bits, and recruiting digimon. You'll probably go through your second generations life around this point because a lot of the fetch quests take time to get through. but you now have access to areas where you can farm your stats to 4-5k in the rookie stage if you have enough healing items. And your next generation of digimon will start with around 1,000 stats in each stat at this point if you got the resurrection stat perks. which will go up more and more each time you get higher stats. In short, for fans of DW1, this game is amazing. It has all the best parts of DW1, but with all the ease of access features we wish we had. My only gripe is the difficulty curve. Once you get your town moving, the game becomes quite trivial. I'll be starting a new game on Hard Mode before long myself to make it more challenging on myself.

Man i played the OG Digimon World on the PlayStation 1 when i was 8 and had no idea what i was doing but it was still so much fun. I played it so much but never progressed. I remember certain parts of it and still get nostalgia from some of the names in the area and recurring digimon partners. This game is alot of fun!

the difficulty on these games back in the day was unreal. Glad to see it's still there. Great review.

Even with how similar the concepts for gameplay are, the execution of monster rancher and this are super different. Outside of the idea of acting like a coach for your monsters, MR monster don't poop, lifespans are handled completely differently, the way monsters work in terms of getting them and combat are almost nothing alike, feeding mechanics are nothing alike with monster rancher having so much variety and different needs regarding food, and exploration is more like a board game or have randomized dungeons. Pretty much the only things that are the same are training being done via stations at a home base and both games lean heavily into simulation mechanics but execute them differently. It's a shame to see some people aren't giving this game a proper shot and are judging it as bad because it's just not exactly a genre they expected.

I think the best description would be a monster raising rougelike. Your monsters will die but they will get stronger each time you restart.

I personal really enjoy the game. I never was a big PS4-Player and while I tried it out on the PS4, I never warmed up with it. (Dunno if it was the controller or the environment the console was in, I just prefer Nintendo-Consols) Can't really talk much about the story, since I'm still not very far yet (I'm in Chapter 3 now, I think with my mons in Gen 4) While the Grind can be tedious, I think it's pretty relaxing actually and seeing your partners grow and learn is kinda wholesome, since you grow and learn with them :) I hope we get to see more Digimon-Games soon!

honestly i got the game a couple days ago and i already love it I haven't passed ch. 1 yet but still pretty far i think but i still like it even if majority of the time im in the training area (especially when my digimon die and i have to restart) but something about the game just hooks me....idk why worth the purchase so far imo tho

I treat the game like a super advanced and expanded upon form of a Tamagachi, which is what it can be summed up as. That's why I enjoy it. Anyone that wasn't into raising little creatures with the risk of effing it up would probably not like it. It has an upgrade system similarly found in rougue-lites, so I feel that those fans could find joy in the sense of progression after every rebirth. I very much enjoy the auto-battle aspect of the game with the occasional trainer input. My only criticism is the effects don't look anywhere near as good as other games within the series, such as Cyber Sleuth. Overall it's one of the more fun games to listen to podcast or watch Netflix as you mindlessly go about the world and train your mons or advance storylines.

In the research district of Flotia, I noticed some weird square on the lower right of my screen (among some odd shapes in the middle as well) and I was wondering if this is supposed to be a reflection from some ceiling we can’t see do to the camera locked in one area or if their was something wrong with my TV. im a new player for this game, but familiar with the original digimon world. i have to say the game is comparatively more difficult than the first one. I was careless and got myself defeated by the 3rd machinedramon (infected gotsumon i think). my partners were taomon silver and angewomon. i hope i will get better and ready myself to challenge that boss once more

I play both Next Order and Cyber Sleuth, and I love Next Order more than Cyber Sleuth. Both are great in my opinion, but Next Order seems to have some "love touch" in it.

The game is an acquired taste, just finished the main story line and post game story but not sure if I want to continue... Grinding each digimon back up in stats just sounds egh. The ones I have are at 8k in stats and at the ultimate states so there is still room to grow but not like the gameplay is that interesting to go through the pain of grinding digimon up to see them evolve.

It's rly good but after the story the training get's annoying cause most bosses are on lv 60, or higher.

If anything, I'd say they don't throw enough info on your face :v They just explain you the battle system, training and the main objective of the game and then go like "if wanna know anything else, just ask people around". They do the same approuch for many other Digimon games.

For sure the lack of guidance is pretty bad. But just as an example, Botamon who sits in Jijimon's house, will tell you who is able to be recruited and what map area they are in. He won't list all of them that are available, but he will give you a handful of those you can go recruit right this minute. I can't say much for other digimon games, never really got into them a lot beyond a quick play through, but DW1 and Next Order both had a digimon sitting next to Jijimon that told you the general direction you should be heading for progression. You will not hit a wall in having something to do until you recruit every digimon in the game. There is always something to do somewhere in the world.

@@Selet101 yeah, that's my point. Digimon games don't hold your hand, but most of them let the info there in case you wanna know something. There are quite a few NPCs that explain a bunch of stuff about the game and they make sure to tell you they exist.

Lets you go out and do your own thing, but gives you the information you need readily available for your access. I'd rather not have a game shoving it down my throat "go here and do this, then go over there and do this." I'd rather just go out and explore the world and find things on my own, knowing that if i get stuck the information is there if i need it. Probably why i never really got deep into other digimon games, cause that's almost exactly what they do xD

@@Selet101 Yeah, the point of the game is exploring, so it shouldn't have a bunch of tutorials getting in the way. The problem is people can't be bothered to read. But other Digimon games don't throw tutorials on you either, Cyber Sleuth is the one that had the most and those are just a bunch of pop-ups that you can click through quickly and check later. Most of them also have dedicated NPCs for game info.

I enjoyed the game. It had a lot of unnecessary frustrations but once you get useful tips and pointers around the frustrations the game is quite fun!

I enjoyed it 5 years ago. But only because I was done with Cyber Sleuth 1 and 2

@@DanteCrowlley The story goes down alongside the regular Cyber Sleuth actually and yeah it's an expansion to the base game more than anything, before it added digimon and things. Complete edition uses a merged Digimon pool from the start in both stories.

No, but you can potentially digivolve your partners into any digimon you want. When your partners' lifespan runs out, you can choose which baby/in training form they come back as. Then, as you train and bond with your partners, you'll unlock guides that tell you what stats they'll need to obtain which forms. Also, as you progress through the game, you'll get access to items that'll let you digivolve them directly to certain forms.

I have been enjoying it but boy is it a grind. Also, for some reason, Cybersleuth is not available in Argentina which fucking sucks.

I've been playing it on the PC, & I was someone wanting a remake of DmW1 on the PS1. I consider it a budget title (not worth the price they where asking), there are a lot of areas that I wished where more fleshed out & some areas are pretty bare bones. The story is real cringe, like everyone got into Ash's medication cringe. If I could change one thing I would have really like the option to train the Digimon I recruit to the town, the constant reincarnation of my monsters makes it hard to get attached to them, I would have like to keep the monsters I work so hard to train in some way, & would make me feel like I have greater control of who's on my team outside a dice roll. I just have to add this, but I just finished a side quest involving a war between Leomon & Rosemon, the meat army vs the veggie army. So Leomon tells me one of his men has been imprisoned, so I through ok, I'll check the prison. Nope, got to talk to Ogremon first who tells me to check the prison, so I do that. Nope, got to go back to Leomon first who tells me to go to the prison, FINE!!! So I got there find a Woodmon guarding, kick his ass, free the prisoner who tells me he's useless, because they stole his energy to make a doomsday laser they can fire any minute. OK I'll just go from the castles prison to the castles thrown room. Nope, got to run all the way back to Leomon's fortress & ask his permission to save his life, then I can final fight Rosemon, who after losing says she didn't really care about the war. Now Rosemon is working in my town's movie theater right next to the Colosseum where Leomon works & Ogremon is inbetween them both selling popcorn.

your not supposed to get attached, unless you plan on making them live 99+ days. you can close off certain digi lines to get the digi you want from the dojo after you upgrade it to 2. the digimon you recruit helps you obtain ExE digivolutions once you hit upgrade 3 dojo. other then that I'm on my 3rd gen digis and they are at 56 days .

They need to make more digimon. It’s be the same 200 digimon for the past 20 years

There are more Digimon than there are Pokémon. They just do the same thing as Pokémon where they super serve the nostalgic ones, and lower budgets for their games mean they have an excuse for struggling to get them all up to modern graphics standards.

@@grimsongreen3217 True, though even for that their picks were still heavily inclined towards the most retro era. - Granted that was an artistic decision to help evoke bittersweet nostalgia.

I played the OG Digimon World back in the day and the Re:digitize Decode fan translation for english, this game is very similar to them. But for some reason it felt rather dull. Don't get me wrong, I actually love the OG gameplay and also the Decode one, so this one is almost the same, supposed to be an upgrade... yet I like it less. The story felt rather short and the game structure doesn't make sense; you unlock some of the nicest city functionalities in a game state where you have nothing really to use them on anymore as you're done with quests, recruiting, all the big fights. Let alone how long it'd take to upgrade any of them to the max. Ah... so many cons, almost no pros. Soundtracks are nice and I like they added some new digimon I've never seen before. Personally for me it's a 5/10 and very cleanly, I just can't decide whether I wanna like it or not, completely on the fence between good and bad. There's a ton of things to see but really the game is 70% training in the gym, 30% everything else. This is my realistic point of view because I don't wanna be too harsh on it; I love that we started getting Digimon games for the PC and I want more of them, I do recommend this game, just don't try to compare it to other RPGs, it has it's own unique structure.

Game is 70% training in the gym is blatantly false. You don't need to constantly be at the gym in Next Order, not any more than you need to do so in previous games. In fact, Next Order rewards player for fighting stronger enemies far more than world 1 and decode, and it becomes the preferred method of training. If you fight enemies that are above your level, you will get like 25/250 stat boosts with each battle, and battles don't actually move time forward like in world 1, where they would waste one in-game hour, barely give you any rewards, and leave your Digimon exhausted and not to mention tamer skills help immensely and the restaurant is infinitely more useful as it doesn't rely on RNG bullshit like decode, you can get all dishes at any time.

I tried this game last year and wanted to like it so bad but the CONSTANT micromanaging for the feeding/taking them to the toilet/giving them medicine completely killed it for me

Somehow i feel like compare to monster rancher digimon have more fast space training/routine than monster rancher. Also i don't think level was necessary in this type of game because you have evolution stage like rookie, champion etc. And yeah i think next order kind a gimmick game compare to digimon world 1 or re:digitize.If they want to make the same type of game like that again hope it isn't to much gimmick like more than 200 digimon "but half of them was re-skin".

I'm probably not going to buy it again. I played and platinumed the game all the way back on the PS4. I don't think I could handle the 100's of hours I took to do it the first time. It's a fun game once you get into the flow of watching your Digimon die and doing it all over again with a bit more efficiency each time.

This is what I would tell people if they are interesting in playing Digimon World Next Order Buy the PS4 version or get it on sale for Steam The game itself is good if you like raising monsters but it cannot justify the full price for a 6 year old game. It's a shame that the Digimon franschise gets mismanaged like this.

im not interested in auto battling digimon games i prefer turn based or direct control

I wouldn't really call this game open world. It's like open branching paths to playgrounds, with gated off areas, along the lines of Zelda Oot or Megaman Legends. To me an open world is a game where you can completely ignore the main story doing whatever you want for days at a time.

I much prefer cyber sleuths method of handling digimon, the whole cycle of life and death was tiresome with digimon world 1 and it hasn't gotten any less tiresome now, if anything it's worse considering you've got two partners now.

This game has been out for like 10 years on PS4. This game is old as heck.

The running speed seemed the same to me.

I don't think this title is for me. I vastly prefer the cyber sleuth games. Lack of total control and having to raise your digimon over and over. I'll wait for the third story game, especially since it's going to deal with the Olympus 12.

No i won't and its not good because: I want the Lalamon line (specialy Lilamon in the DLC) Its Lacking Digimon lines Delete Palmon line (Lillymon is my most hated Digimon of all) Solarmon's line is all wrong! Must include Lilamon in some digivolutions

This game is good I love the open world but this is why I stop playing you digimon die so all the progress you do is delete

Nah i rather keep it my ps4 version and the psvita (moded). i really do not care much of the run mode and easy mode just so lazy port.

Not really trash, just niche, but yeah, it really should've been $30 since it really didn't pack in extra content worthy of full price. Thank god they didn't go $70 though, lmao.
