Is Denver Broncos’ HC Sean Payton the PERFECT person to evaluate QB talent?

Спорт

Is Sean Payton an IDEAL coach to evaluate NFL QBs? Are the Denver Broncos in an ideal situation at QB with Bo Nix after Sean Payton identified Bo Nix as the team's next franchise QB? Does Sean Payton's track record with Drew Brees, Jameis Winston and Teddy Bridgewater prove that he's one of the best QB evaluators in NFL history? Or is there not enough evidence? The DNVR Broncos Podcast breaks disagrees and debates it on the DNVR Broncos Diehard mailbag.

Payton is one of the top five Coaches, and I think we will be pleased with Nix.

You have a point. Elway was awful at identifying a QB (although in fairness, he only took 1 swing at a first round QB) but could identify great defensive talent (Von Miller, Bradley Chubb, Justin Simmons, Derek Wolfe, etc.) even in the late rounds and UDFA ranks (Danny Trevathan, Malik Jackson, Chris Harris Jr., etc.) because it was easier for him, as a QB, to identify what he did NOT want to see on the opposing side.

Drew Brees, in 2004 led the San Diego Chargers to a 12-4 recorded winning the AFC West Division, and was selected to the *Pro Bowl* Brees: 65.5% Completion| 3,159 Yards| 27 Touchdowns| 7 Interceptions| 18 Sacks|… The only reason why Payton and the Saints ended up with Brees, is because Brees injured his throwing shoulder, which spooked the Chargers, and caused the Dolphin’s to back off on signing him. Nick Saban wanted Brees badly, but was discouraged by the Dolphin’s medical staff evaluations… Brees could have been relatively as successful anywhere he had a coach that believed in him, since he already was with the Chargers and Marty Schottenheimer… Payton was lucky Brees’ arm and shoulder healed well, just like Belichick was lucky in drafting Tom Brady. Because let’s face it, the Patriots did not draft Brady to replace Bledsoe, it just turned out that way… Sean Payton would have worked with Russell Wilson this season, had Wilson capitulated and relinquished his Injury Clause to free up CAP room to retool the roster… Payton was mad because when WIlson denied him, it ruined Payton’s plans, and probably knocked him down a notch in his own estimation of himself as a football genius and quarterback whisperer… Winston and Bridgewater are NOT very good examples… 🤔

Jake Haener was drafted by the Saints when Payton was the HC of the Broncos. Payton liked Romo as an UDFA. Payton loved Mahomes. Bridgewater went 5-0 as a starter under him. Seriously, Hank you're awful.

[6:45] Andrew Luck, a double major in Engineering… Russell Wilson is one of the few players in the NFL that holds a Masters degree, and the media propaganda would have people believe Wilson is too dumb to handle complex plays. Wonder who sparked that rumour… 🤔

Sean Payton never had to find a long list of good QBs, because he had one of the best of all time on his roster. This is the dumbest nitpicky conversation I’ve ever heard. I can tell you guys are really struggling for things to talk about.
