Is Daredevil Possible?

Is Daredevil real? Marvel comics have many characters with fantastic abilities, most of which are clearly fiction. However, Daredevil is a more grounded hero, getting past his blindness and using sound to "see" his environment.
Echolocation is a very real ability in animals such as bats and dolphins, but can a human learn to navigate their environment by sound alone, and if so, to what extent?

This is actually truly one of the coolest abilities that anyone can develop, if only we just practice it. A way I did it is by blindfolding myself. Now a different superhero that maybe it can be done: Shang-Chi, greatest martial artist ever

What a cool episode Dan Sensei! My old Judo Sensei Ray Dunmeyer was blind…took a silver medal in the Judo special Olympics years ago. Training with him was so awesome…I used to guide him onto the tatamis. As soon as he grabbed you, it was exactly the same as fighting a sighted person. He was tough as nails and his Ne Waza was superior. I really miss Ray Sensei 🙏

After getting a feel for blind fighting, we used to put on loud music with the lights off (very low level illumination) and spar/grapple until a clear winner emerged. Great way to train against sensory overload and obtain "body feel" .

What has drawn me to Marvel as a kid was the realistic storylines of the superheroes. Not only were the storylines impressive, but also the heros were based in real life cities and countries. Heroes like Daredevil and Shang-Chi were not too far fetched from reality.

In my dojo we perform kata blindfolded to use our hearing and sense of touch. Great when fighting in low light.

It ironic you posted this, I have actually been doing certain things at home with my eyes closed for like 4 months now, including exercising. You'd be amazed at how quickly you can see without seeing. Also found that my form in kata is way better with my eyes closed because your limbs have to "see" where they are rather than using your eyes, and thus are in better posture.

I love Charlie Cox Daredevil is fantastic. And the choreography is amazing. I think the martial arts in Daredevil are far superior to Iron Fist show.

What heroic stories! Thank you for sharing! Sadly I've got hearing damage, so I don't think I'll be echolocating. I did have a couple students that did some blindfold training on their own once. They asked my opinion and I said I was in favor of it. Then they asked me to put on the blindfold. I said, "Yeah, let's put a blindfold on the guy with hearing damage and see if we can sneak up on him. I'm in favor of this for you. You blindfold me and I'm not a challenge any more."

An episode of Karate Bushido (a French KZread channel about....Martial Arts lol) had the host (a very sympathetic and funny retired MMA fighter by the name of Greg) welcoming and sparring in BJJ with someone who is blind. Very interesting and mind opening on how they deal with martial world and world differently yet still come to the same conclusions or with different methods obtain the same results and sometimes better. I can't recommend this channel enough for those who don't mind the subtitles or if you do understand French, it is a goldmine. The man ends all debates and is not shy to visit people and try things, especially sparring with others from various disciplines. (Always fun when I ear people saying xyz doesn't work yet they don't wish to see people who can work in that specific system... You can see him challenge those people in more ecclectic styles and see exactly how it fares against someone who has been in the ring more than once) He also likes to do "Street challenges" where he will equip a random individual with sparring gear and they are to hit him and or his partners/guests (wrestling champs, Self defense experts, Karate Champions etc...) while they attempt to defend. Leads to interesting surprises and some learning of what's "out there". I feel like most Martial Arts channels are complementary and unfortunately, lots of us in North America don't see what the rest of the world has to offer... Maybe a bit of a superiority complex as nations. But those of us who want to explore more, there is lots to discover!! Art of One is the base of it all, I see many other elsewhere but I always come back here for informative and philosophic/enlightening advice from someone who is humble yet not afraid to take his place when needed, then I come back here where we are ALL welcomed.

Actually he has heightened sense of hearing, taste/smell like wolverine, and sense of touch. And he in the comics doesn’t have echolocation, but an electromagnetic 3D Spacial sense.

Closing your eyes is the best way to do bjj. You can feel the person. You sharpen your other instincts as it is very tactile.

Nothing wrong with the Affleck daredevil, if for no other reason than watching the making of when the blind consultant Tom Sullivan just casually plays golf, goes running and is an all road cool/nice guy all while being blind.

Many times when I roll in BJJ I don't need to see or look. You know where your opponent's limbs just by being connected. In some ways this is like wing chun chi sao on the ground. You use sensitivity and reaction rather than sight.

In my Humble opinion Daredevil style is the following Boxing = head movement, blocks, counter punching and power punches Kyokushin Karate = Body conditioning and toughness, Bare knuckle punches and powerful kicks FMA or Eskrima = Stick fighting and improvised weapons Judo = Throws, Grappling, Chokes, Joint locks and manipulation

In cinema it's understandable, but in comics that's what get me confused. In movies they'll put at least 12-15 fighting styles in either shows or movies but comic books it's confusing becauseof his training timeline. It's kinda all over the place to me.
