Is college worth it these days? In my honest opinion...no! If you're wondering, "Should I go to college or university"? In this video I explain why I think college is too risky of a bet to be taking. It's a waste of money and in my opinion, college is a scam. The world have changed a lot and I strongly believe that it is no longer the best strategy. The best strategy these days is something that allows you to be flexible.

All he was trying to say was that if you properly learn a digital in-demand skill, you will earn way more money and experience with the same effort that someone else would put into 4 years of college who ends up living with average income until their 40s... Sure, you will still manage to live as a college graduate if you work and study well and make good decisions but you need to accept the difference my friend...

In my case, going to college was a no-brainer. I'm doing my PhD in engineering, because I think you really can't go wrong with a strong base in math, physics, chemistry, biology, and programming. Plus, I want to be a professor in my field, which demands a PhD, lots of research experience, and high impact publications and patents. Plus, it's more than just the money: getting to work in a field I'm passionate about for the rest of my life? I can't ask for more.

And statistics show that mean income for people with masters is greater than those with just bachelors, who have it greater than those who never went to college. I hate how some people in these comments are justt hating on the video just because they think he is just trying to tell you to quit school and invalidating degrees, 1. He's not, hes just saying that for some people it may be a better option due to the field their trying to get in (that is, if your doing it for money) and how competitive and rapidly evolving the job market will be in the future, 2. There are many degrees that will always be needed in the near future such as doctors, teachers, STEM in most cases, etc. Chill. 3. This is targetted to people who are in highschool / middleschool and will go into a future job market that will look different to the one now, what may have worked for you may not work for them. 4. This doesnt factor much in of what you may care about degrees but the profit and applied skills you gain afterwards. Go talk about intelligence, enjoyment or motivation elsewhere.

It honestly depends on what you want to do in life. Graduating high school should be a minimum and then afterwards you either enter the workforce working your way up to better positions or go to college to learn a concentrated subject broadening your knowledge to fit certain positions. High paying professions like lawyer or doctor should be the college route but as for other positions, you can gain the skills and experience by just working. Also it's abysmal for anyone to be paying tens of thousands of dollars for college and be in debt afterwards. Price should always play a factor into which college you go to and don't be afraid to not dorm. Name brand is what these kids care about these days, but it should be about the experience and value you get out of it

It doesn't necessarily have to be a doctor. Or what of a car mechanic. Personally I don't think some mechanics went to school and started calculating electrical resistance. Most of the learnt how to fix cars by looking at what their dad was doing to their trucks 😅. And let's not forget about the debt some of us have to pay just to get a degree and afterwards getting a job that doesn't pay well. All our opinions contradict on the both sides. Just stay flexible.

Yeah that's why AI is already doing 75% of programming. Train AI on mechanical or electrical engineering it'll start making circuit boards and systems. Practically what my friend in the video said at the start. Stem jobs will still exist, it's just that AI will destroy the demand for stem degree grads . Plus you're competing with a large pool of migrant students who have been trained since kindergarteners that stem will be the only way to success and a citizenship in the US. It's better than to learn science and engineering principles in coding boot camps or learn CAD and electrical systems with online courses. Having a basic understanding will help you work with AI in the future.

@@The_philosophical_cockroach Although I take your point, I think you are overly restricting what STEM actually is and what you can do with the skills learned within it. The complexity of most tasks involved in STEM jobs cannot just be relegated to AI. Programming and automating circuit building are small aspects of STEM. Also, the skills you acquire in your STEM curriculum are applicable outside STEM jobs, like in management or business, etc., where you inevitably need more humans in the loop.

  • @The_philosophical_cockroach

@@haroldmatias12 I was providing two examples of certain tasks that stem could automate. You might think that AI can't automate certain tasks, but the technology is rapidly advancing. And I also forgot to include robotics. So I take your point too. Stem degrees might not be bulletproof (as AI will ultimately dwindle the demand of entry-level jobs) but it's nice to study. Me personally, I would study stem outside of college to start a business. As I don't really need a degree to start a business.

  • @The_philosophical_cockroach

Ultimately I don't like the idea of going to college for these things, just like the KZreadr said, you're taking a 4-6 year bet on the future of the demand of the job. Not just that but don't you think the degree will become obsolete if AI could automate a lot of these tasks? Just think of it, before the calculator, companies and militarys alike employed hundreds of thousands of people that do the math for them. Same thing with typewriters, where did they all go? And what's even worse is that AI is intelligent technology. Well it's not worse it's just going to make the skills of stem more accessible to others. Just think of it, we all used to cheat on homework with calculators.

@@Anti_CoperI strongly disagree. I'm subscribed to quite a few self-improvement channels and none of them have this kind of thumbnail, to be honest. Not only is it predatory, it's also a bit hypocritical and rude, because I know the content creator has a long-term partner that I'm sure wouldn't want to be objectified in this way. I appreciate these kinds of videos, but it's really not helpful to sell a before-and-after picture like that. Just my two cents.

@@Anti_CoperJust because others are doing it doesn't mean it's right. If my reason isn't good enough, then we can look at audience. I'm sure women will naturally be turned off by the image's rhetoric. He's probably doing himself a disservice by only catering to straight men. But what do I know?

In Canada, you can't get most jobs without a diploma or degree. You won't even be called for interview if you don't have higher education credentials on your CV. People in this country are overqualified, everyone has too many degrees, and there are less jobs available in any field.

if you're able to get into trade school or one of the bootcamps I mentioned, it doesn't matter. If you dropped out of highschool because you are unable to apply yourself to anything, then it does matter. Lack of work ethic will make you unemployable

I hate this question. I don't take people seriously outside of college classes. you have to pass exams and fulfill requirements to get into the engineering school for example. It's not even that you have to be the smartest. It's just that you actually have to do something to be there. I think there is something different going on in the computer dork and business schools because these web guys are just stealing money. It's a different thing to go to college and work on things because you have to be prepared, and then the other people are prepared. You didn't need that for say a home mortgages. You didn't really need that for a real estate license. you don't need that to make crap for facebook. The internet is worthless. Then you'll see silly things like elon suing or getting sued for defamation. That crap doesn't happen so much in college because you actually study and do something to be there. you don't just say your momma jokes. Now you're using the internet to talk crap about real university that include real school and not just computer dork school. That's defamation. Colleges are not one college. It's a collection of schools.
