Nehru was only enacting the unfulfilled dreams of Crown after they realised they cannot administer India. The only people who stood as hindrance in these issues were Patel, Bose, Ambedkar, Sam Manaeckshaw (especially in war years) and later Gen Carriappa. If not for these great men, India would have split up in 6 to 12 regions by 1960. Nehru didn't deserve a State Funeral in my honest opinion.

Field Marshal Cariappa was way senior than Field Marshal Manekshaw....you are probably referring to Gen Thimayya....FM Carriappa was critical of Nehrus leadership during the First Indo Pak war 47 48 .
