Hey Ryan, I stumbled onto your hilarious “Living/Traveling Cambodia” videos on KZread. Little did I know you’re also fellow Canucks! In early April 2023, I'm planning a two weeks trip back to my birth country. I haven't been back since we left for Montreal during the Khmer Rouge regime. I will be doing Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Kampot, Kep, and Koh Rong. Based on one of your videos, it's the worst month to visit. This is going to be interesting. Thanks for the travel tips! Keep it up! I can deal with the heat (currently residing in Tampa, Fl), I’m more worried about eating fresh veggies and the consequences. My stomach isn’t accustomed to the local germs/bacterias 😂 I’m up to date with my immunization. One of my favorite episodes is the bathroom in the kingdom 😂 I’ll be back in Phnom Penh for the Khmer New Year.

I transfered some money from Oz,into an ABA fixed deposit. I asked the manager why the rates are higher for Riel, he said the Cambodian Central Bank requies every bank to hold X amount of Riel, and they must lend X amount of Riel. I agree,the USD will be phased out eventually.

Riel could also dump in value like it has before. USD is being inflated massively and riel probably more so. 9% interest on fiat that is being devalued at 20% per year so you are actually 11% poorer next year 😂

Thanks to dad's advice I got lucky with land/property when young, made me a boring young man just working and saving, but dad also invested in the stock market that crashed in 2008, chit happens. Too old now to play the money greed game and enjoying my end game in Cambodia, luv the place.

Koh Rong is such a lovely place. I doubt it will look better covered in casinos and brothels and filled with gangsters. But hey. I could be wrong. I mean look at the success story that is Sihanoukville.

That's crazy about Sihanoukvile. People said Sihanoukville used to be the most popular tourist destination in Cambodia. Now tourists refuse to spend their money there.

I've been in Siem Reap now 4 months. Never seen any crime, gangsters, or anything LIKE you're talking about bro. Safest place I have ever been.

From all South Asia,USA,UK, South America . Cambodia consider the least crime at all times. I’ve been there supposedly for 2 weeks but end up staying 4 month and travel alone visiting Angkor Wat, few beaches it was so peaceful and it’s a country with welcome heart then I don’t want to fly back to the states but for reason of family attachment . Surely will be moving back for our retirement and business management .

You can get oceanfront in Manta Equador for the same price and the currency is USD.

Even cheaper in Bahia de Caraquez I think. Fingers crossed that a huge earthquake doesn't hit again.

Keep in mind with banks like ABA they're B+ rated. This means the bank has more risk exposure than banks with higher rating. ABA is a subsidiary of a Canadian bank

I heard about the same thing happening in the Philippines. A guy leased a building and started a bar/restaurant and it was very successful for years. One Monday morning he found the doors chained shut and his landlord seized all his property and would no longer rent to him, and the landlord ran the restaurant himself. :( The city council sided with the landlord.

There are two factors that determine your interest rate: 1) currency and 2) bank rating. Currency is dependent on the central bank policy, which for the dollar is the Federal Reserve. Currently, the FED is raising interest rates to almost 4.75%, while the Cambodian central bank is at about 1%. However, the bank gives you less interest for the dollar because the almighty dollar is considered to be the most stable currency as a world reserve and is used as a medium of exchange all around the world. So, you get almost 8% for Riel, while you get 5% for the dollar. The bank tries to give you a higher rate for Riel to attract investors to hold Riel. A highly stable bank gives you less interest, but mostly very little due to high competition. 5% for the USD may seem high, but if you wait until the end of 2023, you may get about 6-7% for a USD account."

Your content is very good. But you are making a mistake that your channel is not doing good SEO. If you do good SEO in your channel, your channel will grow in few days.
