Is Biden about to allow US weapons to be used to attack Russian soil?

Day 813. Today, we discuss the latest from the Kharkiv battlefield, hear warnings from Norwegian intelligence of Russian sabotage operations across Europe, ask whether there’s about to be a shift in US policy over the use of western weapons inside Russia. Later, we hear about a new film exploring the soldiers road to redemption.

The United States’ largest military contractor Lockheed Martin is struggling to find storage space for a fast growing fleet of F-35 fifth generation fighters which have been rejected by the Pentagon, according to a new report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office. With the Technology Refresh 3 (TR-3) upgrade for the F-35 overdue due to serious software issues and delays to spare parts production, an inability to produce aircraft to this standard has led the Department of Defence to refuse to receive additional fighters. The effects of this have been particularly detrimental when considering that other than less than half a dozen F-15EX fighters, the F-35 is the only fighter the U.S. Air Force and Marine Corps have acquired in close to 15 years, with the program already very far behind schedule forcing both services to keep older Cold War era aircraft in service far longer than intended. Test officials have described the TR-3’s software as “unstable,” despite standards for the software block having already been lowered. The number of F-35s in storage at Lockheed Martin’s facilities is within months expected to reach over 100, fuelling calls on Capitol Hill to reduce acquisitions of the aircraft. Indeed, reports have indicated that storage could lead to damage to the aircraft before their delivery. The House Armed Services Committee’s recently released proposed fiscal 2025 National Defense Authorisation Act has thus stipulated a cut of F-35 acquisitions for all three services of the U.S. Armed Forces to just 58 aircraft, down from around 68, which would bring production levels to under half those of the rival Chinese J-20 fifth generation fighter. This is particularly critical since the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Air Force is simultaneously acquiring three major fighter classes all in significant numbers, where the U.S. Air Force other than a very small number of F-15EX fighters is overwhelmingly reliant on the F-35. The F-35’s TR-3 upgrade is not expected to be ready before 2025, with Lockheed Martin having confirmed that F-35 deliveries in 2024 will be 27-50 percent lower than expected. It is necessary to look for the answer to the question about the legitimacy of Ukraine’s authorities in its constitution, as legal analysis is needed, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a joint press conference with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko after their talks. "It is Ukraine that has to answer this question. First and foremost, I think, from the position of the parliament, constitutional court or some other institutions," Putin said. "It is necessary to look up what is written in the Ukrainian constitution, which government bodies are eligible to be extended under Ukraine’s constitution without any elections, without any electoral procedures, and which cannot count on these rights. This can be done based on legal analysis. These are questions to the Ukrainian political and legal system," he said.

Western politicians are in disarray because Moscow now has all the strategic initiative in the conflict around Ukraine, Sergey Naryshkin, head of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), told reporters. "Mixed and often conflicting statements and assessments regarding developments in Ukraine are coming [from] the West. The reason is that Western elites are pretty much in disarray after realizing the fact that all the strategic initiative on the battlefield has passed to the Russian Armed Forces," he pointed out. According to the SVR chief, after a year and a half of "droning on about Russia’s so-called strategic defeat on the battlefield," Western politicians find themselves in a much different position today.

On the evening of May 23, the Ukrainian/NATO military launched another missile attack on the Crimean peninsula. According to the local reports, explosions thundered throughout the peninsula, except its western part. The attack was presumably launched by Ukrainian drones and US-made ATACMS or French-British Storm Shadow missiles. Unfortunately, the attack resulted in civilian casualties. According to monitoring sources, at least 16 missiles were spotted heading for Crimea. Some of them were launched from the Odessa region. Also, about four UAVs were launched from the Kherson region. Meanwhile, MQ-9 Reaper reconnaissance drone of the US Air Forces is circling in the sky over the Black Sea. At about 10 p.m. local time, explosions were reported in the area of the capital of the Crimean Republic - Simferopol, as well as in the southern cities of Yalta and Alushta, in the north in Dzhankoy and in the west in Yevpatoria. Sirens sounded in Sevastopol. At least 20 explosions are heard in the Simferopol district of Crimea. Presumably, the detonation of ATACMS cluster missiles. According to preliminary reports, Ukrainian drones were shot down in the Alushta area. Most of the explosions were likely the result of operations of Russian air defense forces. Local sources confirmed interception of several targets in the area. The official report by the Russian Defense Ministry is likely to reveal more details on the morning of May 24. The local authorities confirmed the strikes. The head of Crimea reported that two civilian bystanders were killed as a result of the attack in the Simferopol district. The official also confirmed the strike in the area of Alushta, where an empty utility facility was reportedly destroyed. Emergency services are deployed on the site. Video from Alushta confirmed the strikes in a mountainous area on the eastern outskirts of Alushta. Judging by open sources, there are no permanent military facilities in the area. According to preliminary reports, the Russian military is already launching retaliatory strikes at targets in Odessa region, from where missiles were launched towards Crimea. Supersonic Onyx missiles of the Bastion-P complexes and Iskander ballistic missiles are reportedly heading for Ukraine.

She also told about the man she had known since 1996, who supported her in this work , and promised his husband in personal conversations the publication of his books and translation into 12 languages. The person’s details are not disclosed, but it became known that he left Slovakia 36 hours before the attack. He left for the Czech Republic. In addition, four accomplices appeared in the case. One handed over a pistol and taught shooting to the elderly terrorist, two monitored Fico and accurately indicated the day and place of the attack, and also escorted him to the square, another provided running expenses and bought tickets to Warsaw for the terrorist’s wife. All four have been identified and three have already been detained. These are Ukrainians.

If Ukraine's skies were protected troops could go in and help set up defence lines with machinery andnassist with training. It would possibly add to more transparency and reduce pockets of corruption. We cannot pretende that corruption and abuse did not occur in Western nations and continues to occur. I listened today about the problems with the lack of journalists and the damage the war has done to independent media in Ukraine not just in terms of personnel but also the abilty both economically and space and equipment wise. The media helps hold politicians to account and is vital in any democracy as a bridge between policy makers and the people. We can give some University spaces to Ukrainians who wish to learn journalism and provide other help where necessary.

Tor-M2 air defense system shoots down a Storm Shadow/SCALP missile in Ukraine kzread.info/dash/bejne/qnmftrWaotq-qrA.html Rare footage of the interception of the Russian Tor-M2 air defense system, the Ukrainian Storm Shadow cruise missile, and possibly the Anglo-French SCALP missile has been published. The location and date of the shooting have not been announced. It is worth noting that the Storm Shadow and SCALP cruise missiles are quite large and the Tor-M2 air defense missile system is difficult to shoot them down, since the mass of the warhead of the Tor-M2 air defense missile system is about 15 kg. Despite this, after being hit by a Tor-M2 air defense missile, the Ukrainian cruise missile caught fire and began to fall. Lamp of Knowledge

Well done Norway on the mive to restrict Russian entry except on humanitarian grounds. I have been suggesting this move for other like minded nations. Putin has his tentacles everywhere . The main problem with it is that there are citizens of other nationalities who are also willing to do his bidding. We do have to scrutinise the funding of political parties and other organisations such as the farmers and truckers who seem to be influenced to act against the national interest. This may be seen as anti democratic but absolutism is a fantasy and just a propaganda tool espoused by trolls.

The conflict in Ukraine will end with Kiev’s overwhelming defeat, unless it is settled diplomatically, US journalist Seymour Hersh said. "America, in the years Biden has been in office, has spent $175 billion to fight a war that cannot and will not be won. It will only be resolved by diplomacy-if rationality prevails in Kiev and Washington-or else by the overwhelming defeat of the understaffed, undertrained, and poorly equipped Ukrainian army," he said on his Substack blog. The journalist noted that he is aware that, in the past few weeks, several Ukrainian brigades told their command that "they will no longer participate in what would be a suicidal offensive against a better trained and better equipped Russian force." An unnamed US Administration representative told Hersh that the advance of Russian troops indicates that, should negotiations begin now, Moscow will make sure it will carry talk from a position of strength.

If Starmer hasnt even mentioned Ukraine in his speech then the omission is relevant. I doubt ine party is very different from the other but onthe issues of national security they should be in some agreement. The foreign affairs policy in a time such as this should be given priority and if Starner cannot take a stand and explain his policy fron the start then he is weak and hedging. I'm very far from conservative but the left or centre left or whatever title they give, are dropping the ball on the war in Ukraine. It is by far the mot consequential geopolitical event of this century so far. It is the job of leaders to lead. Explain why it matters we suffer through weak leaders who appear to have no principles.
