When he was younger there was a documentary on him broadcast on french TV and it was very sad to watch but also gave me a lot of sympathy for him, he was totally aware he had insane demons but couldn't stop becoming so horrible and self destructive on court and was trying to work on it to still exploit his potential. Well now that we're near the end of his career, he didn't really ever go past that but he still had a pretty decent career and some fun moments.

There was an interview at the beginning of the year, which Benoit basically admitted his attitude problem on the court, and he's trying to improve it. So I'd say he's definitely one of the biggest clowns, but at least he admitted it and is trying to improve.

I think he was also affected by the lockdowns - okay, all players had to deal with it but some players were badly affected. Benoit Paire was one such player. There were concerns about his behaviour on-court long before Convid but the lockdowns worsened and exacerbated them. I truly believe that.

Should’ve been automatically defaulted after he spit so disrespectfully. That’s the most shameful thing you can do. Spit where you don’t agree with an umpire’s decision. You’re insulting him, your opponent, the sport, the fans and everything in between. Honestly that should include forfeiture of prize money for the event too. Disgraceful behavior.

He just got old and didn’t change. Now he is constantly playing Challengers struggling for ATP points…

He is exactly where he deserves: losing against challenger players, and completely forgotten by everyone. Congrats mate, a whole dedicated youth to end like this lmao

All this focusing on the definition of what's a "tennis clown" and what is not, is totally nonsense to me. What counts the most, is that those behaviors are all self-destructive, and very disrespectful for who came (and paid) to see some professional tennis play, and not all that pathetic display of random antics.
