Honestly to me Ben 10 was the best Superhero cartoon that wasn’t related to either marvel or Dc and although the show isn’t perfect, it has a lot heart and great characters. Ben himself may not be perfect but he’s a great Protagonist and when it matters most he knows when it’s hero time. Also my Favorite alien has to be Heatblast.

It makes sense since the OG Ben 10 is 17 years. Kids who watched it back then are now old enough to make retrospectives. It’s pretty cool how classic shows of our era can be brought back to life like that

Definitely. I, for one, would at least want Ben 10,000 special. Without the time travel stuff. Just us seeing Ben as an adult because all the fans are now adults. We were always teased with adult Ben with time travel, but we never truly get to spend time with just him being an adult.

16:56 - holy heck Tara Strong's young Ben pitched down sounds almost EXACTLY like Yuri Lowenthal's older Ben. I had never even thought to compare them in terms of vocal quality, but MAN that was good casting. (Not to say that I ever had any issue with Lowenthal's performance; he's excellent both in Ben 10 and everything else I've heard him do.)

NOTHING matters 😤

I rewatch Ben 10 even at my age and I can say to me it’s still a classic and nostalgic masterpiece in my eyes

Vilgax is the first villain in the series to be treated as major threat. Not only did he show that in his strength, knowledge, and ferocity, but grandpa max shows concern as well, enough to blow his cover. He also lets us know there is more to the omnitrix and it’s origins. He lets us know there is more beyond the world ben lives in on earth.

Oh wow this is incredibly surprising, aside from The Ink Tank, hardly any youtube channels make videos focused about Ben 10 anymore

Honestly, I think the old people episode is a really creepy yet entertaining watch. The old people aliens are beyond frightening and the animation wastes no time showing you the kind of terror they can bring to this conflict. Plus, Ben’s cracks about old people early in the episode are hysterical. Overall, a scary good time.

I was about ten years old when I first watched Ben 10. I was fascinated with animals, and science, as well as science fiction as long as I could remember, and this show really played to my childhood sensibilities. My opinion of the series is complicated, but my memories are fond.

The original Ben 10 is something much more episodic... if you're looking for a story arc type thing, early Alein Force would be the way to go.

I owned every episode of the original as a kid and used to watch them over and over again. Glad to see the love for this show from other people!

I think season 1 works as a great introduction to the show, season 2 has the best standalone episodes, season 3 has the best main plot. Season 4… it’s also there, I guess.

As great as this series is, I really hope you check out Alien Force if you're still interested in the series post-OG reviews. It's arguably just as good, and in some ways absolutely better, but it doesn't get enough recognition compared to the OG series.

I had rewatched this show at the height of the pandemic and for me I like the concept of the series way more than its execution. Alien Force is my favorite iteration though

Yeah I agree ben 10 is a concept driven show for the most part and there isn't really much deeper writing or plot. To me at least the concept is so amazing that it manages to pull me in but the franchise could have been much better if they put more thought into it

@@jobvos160 wtf are you talking, the plot is decent, not good, its full of retcons, plot points that were skipped by the writers, and a lot of inconsistent events.

It's animation for it's time surpasses majority of action animated shows, detail in each transformation with comic book style shots from Man of Action were gift of beauty and that beauty continued a decade later in Generator Rex.

It's amazing how well this show aged visually. The amount of detail characters have along with how well they are animated is astounding. Though omniverse can look just as good as the classic at points in terms of detail and fluidity

I absolutely loved this show as a kid, though as an adult I always hesitated to go back and watch it because I worried it wouldn't live up to the expectation in my head. Really excited for part 2 so I can reflect on this series without the massive time sink, while getting a second opinon

Tbh I really like the Kevin 11 episodes it shows a contrast between Ben and Kevin with Kevin being a possible outcome if Ben wasn't brought up good or matured(e. Bad Ben from omniverse) , plus it had a more or a opposite stand point with Kevin and his powers and I preferred it over albedo

Ben10 is the cartoon of my childhood

I grew up on this show. And I adored it. I still adore it as an adult.

Just as a general point, I'd like to acknowledge that this show was a monster hit with the network and led to spinoffs for over a decade not necessarily on its own merits, but because the premise lent itself so easily ro becoming a toy-selling juggernaut. Try telling an executive that kids will want the actuon figures of the van, three human characters, ten monster heroes, and at least one big alien villain? And you're planning to keep adding new monster designs the longer the show goes on? That's a jackpot. The show was and is good, but it also is still remembered over other similar shows because it has a lot of time in different seasons and spinoffs to flesh out its lore. And it got that time because the executives continued to see the toys as profitable. It wouldn't even shock me if they tried re-rebooting the show again, given how successful the toys were back then.

Good ass video Mr. Lowart, it got me to remember a lot of Ben 10 memories I had locked up in my brain vault that hadn't seen the light of day in YEARS

Dude you clearly stated your opinion and I have to respect that but, the show gives info on Vilgax* as a conqueror/emperor alien, who has more experience dealing with the one thing that sets Ben apart from all the other teenagers(except his family). So just to show even though the guy doesn't have the omnitrix, he could still body many of Ben's transformations to depict on how much of a threat he became through conquests.

People been disrespecting ben 10 lately atleast on twitter when it is one of the great cartoon shows. This show you can literally understand his origin just from the theme song alone so you can jump into any episode with context. It was every child dream to wield an omnitrix and this show had the perfect formula to showcase that. I feel like the classic and AF S1-2 are peak ben 10 in terms of entertainment, plot, and characters.

Alien force season 1 and 2 wasn't really all that entertaining. And the characters were overly boring Gwen was the perfect girl ben was the overly mature hero for no reason and no real character development after 5 years to lead up to him being as mature as he is and Kevin well Kevin is the only entertaining character there. And the plot was just a two season arc about the hybrid the 2 parter season finale of season 2 was underwhelming. That's mainly my thoughts about it.

@@kermitgotthesickkicks4265 Ig we got very different opinions because I found it very entertaining as each episode was contributing to a overall conflict instead of the villain of the week. Gwen was the voice of reason for ben and kevin and kept them together when they were at odds at first. Ben was FINALLY a consistent character who didnt reset every episode to be such a huge douche bag and kevin was the perfect replacement of grandpa max as he can fit both the teaching and learning roles. The plot finale was perfect imo because it showed how instead of being invading to preserve yourself you should be open to seeking others for help.

Sure he was consistent for the first 2 seasons but he never actually seemed to make mistakes sure he was a good leader but I really would've loved to see the flaws of ben explored as a character. And the ending of the hybrid arc was just underwhelming for me.

It wouldn't make sense for him to become an entirely new character forgetting his previous experience.

@@TyRendition This is true. But Ben never really had to behold the struggles of being a true leader to a team until Alien Force. I just wish they played around with that more. But am the kind of Ben 10 fan who likes a good middle ground for ben when it comes to him personality wise.

I remember liking this show a lot as a kid and basically nothing else about it, I have a Ben 10 Wii game though, might check it out again.

i love this video i remember this as one of my favorite childhood tv show

i feel like kevin going straight up mass-murderer out of nowhere really cheapens the whole temptation/redemption thing. it takes a morally grey complicated theme and just turns it whacko insane. i think it would have been better had kevin done something...any less extreme than killing random people lol. maybe he hurts a guard somewhere or something, and ben disowns him but they don't break into an all out fight. would've been more interesting than just "oh by the way he was secretly pure evil all along so now the choice is easy for any person capable of empathy"

I disagree. Because Ben was going down the same path as Kevin, so him collaborating with Kevin wouldn't be so impossible. "ah, but anyone with empathy would do the same" are you sure? We live on earth.

I have a really cool idea for what they could've done with episode 4. During the first three episodes, it was always Ben learning a lesson and coming into his own. However, this episode could've flipped the script by having Ben notice that something's off about Aunt Vira, but Max and Gwen don't believe him because they assume that he's just being an immature brat. Then, all of the imposter alien stuff could've played out like normal. It would've been a cool lesson to teach to kids: that they're not always wrong about everything, and people who are seemingly more mature don't always know better.

Kinda disagree with the vilgax one though I felt like his purpose in his intro was to establish a scene and him character into the show and to know shit was going serious but I'd prefer if we'd got a little explanation from his goal without revealing too much. Even though uaf vilgax is less better than this one in terms of designs and power, I like how his back story and motivations were shown (besides killing Ben ofc)

Oh yeah Vilgax definitely still had a roll in this stuff. Like you said, having him looming over these episodes resulted in a nice build-up that wouldn't have been there otherwise. I just feel that element of his character would have been enhanced with a smidge more info about him.

Could u please do a retrospective on thomas the tank engine? From season 1 to 24. Season 1-7, Classic Series (1984-2003) Season 8-12, Hit Era (2004-2008) Season 13-16, Miller Era (2009-2012) Season 17-21, Brenner Era (2013-2017) Season 22-24, BWBA Era (2018-2021)

Also though some episodes suck, at least there are some memorable moments, like ripjaws "Wanna see a real monster? Try me on for size." And Ghostfreak's whole first transformation+"You wanna see something really scary?" *Scares the living daylights out of Zombozo*(in addition to his monologue beforehand)

Nah man its not about hating the elderly its about it being boring to visit them. And as a kid yeah, visiting elderly relatives was boring as shit and i hated it too.

Nice video Lowart, The long running arcs were generally the best part of the whole franchise, while one-off tended to vary drastically in quality

Maybe that's why they got Yuri for Teen Ben, in the lowered pitch version it kind of still sounded like him

I never watched this as a kid but it always did interest me and I'm not sure why I never checked it out from your video I can tell that this is indeed a good show that I would enjoy so I will proceed to check it out at least the first season anyway so thanks for the recommendation

You better watch the reboot after checking this mess out. It'll make it easier the stomach everything else.

I saw the show in the South American Spanish dubbing. To this day I hadn't make the connection that the bad guy is a love letter to lovecraftian horror.

Think I'll probably go back and watch this one in full.

I think these connections between Ben and the villains were supposed to serve as a warning of sorts to Ben and the audience. As in, if he doesn't slow down and stop his antics he'll end up like them.

Lowart's point is that it makes the moral weak if your antagonist was messed up from the start rather than slowing going down a dark path.

Fun video, I wish you'd talk about the action and animation more tho, those are the shows strong suits afterall

Props for scoring this to music from the Alien Force DS game! Don't think we ain't caught that!

Feels like you're really rushing through a lot of very interesting talking points. Especially in episode 5 wirh Tetrax adding to the deepening of the worldbuilding and Ben's understanding of the Omnitrix by being the same species as one of his aliens and the entire conflict between the two culminating in the way Ben proves himself is still a lesson I think on as an adult on occasion. Then also just smaller things that add to the very solid buildup of the season despite its episodic nature. It's honestly a little frustrating

I feel like the only thing I have to comment on is that I strongly disagree on Dr. Animo. While, yes, he isn't the most compelling villain in Ben's rogue's gallery, especially if one factors in sequel series, I think, for me, his overall entertainment value makes up for it. Maybe it's just the fact that I'm a huge animal nerd, or that I'm a fan of Dwight Schultz, but I feel like Animo's the kind of villain you don't need to be super complex as long as I enjoy watching him. He just makes me laugh. To me, he's probably the most consistent of all the major Ben 10 villains. Even in Alien Force, he still had the schtick of being a nutcase who controls animals. And for me, I feel that's all you really need.

i think the circus/fear episode is one of the most cooler ones because it introduces ghost face who later wants to get freed from the watch and combines a lot of interesting villains in one big episode and gets a good payoff

Overall, I love Season 1 but Season 2 is definitely better The problem of Ben’s character seemingly resetting is definitely a problem with the Classic series. It doesn’t happen all the time but particular episodes like to reset character arcs because the story calls for it

@@thomaspanditfan2435 TBF, that season did a full reset at the start but it kind of stayed consistent after that I may not be the biggest fan of the change but it’s still decent

0:07 ay mood right there, didn't get to see all the eps but when ever I catch it, it's always thrilling and quite impressionable for me come to think of it, I never got back to see if I could watch all the eps now(will watch the other season's before coming here then) will you also cover the movie(s or were they OVAs) 2:22 I remember every time I watched, I would think "will the watch work properly this time? how would he use the alien he didn't want to work around the problem?" (it had been one particular ep where he got fish/eel alien and did some cool tricks with it that really got me intrigued into this show, that and the facts with the "10" Ten aliens to work with Ben is Ten years old(admittedly kinda looked up to him since I was younger then him at the time I watched) "Ten" is in his last name

I'm going to cover the Secret of the Omnitrix movie, but covering any other Ben 10-related material will come down to how well these videos on the OG series perform. Gotta be able to feed the cats haha
