    I dont think becoming a truck driver in 2024 is a bad idea..Things are different now than they were 29 years ago in this industry like now you gotta go to school for it where back then you didnt.. But it has created a good living for myself and my family put kids thru college, paid for kids braces.. etc But new drivers in a relationship need to make sure that their other half is totally commited to it as well. Thats my 2 cents on it

    I agree. Particularly if new driver’s decide to go OTR. You’re definitely asking for problems if your partner is not fully committed.

    @@imanthonytvAnthony whats your thoughts on starting a side business as a small trucking company while maintaining your day job. Nothing extraordinary just 1 used truck, leasing onto a carrier and hiring a driver, by outsourcing this it will take a lot of responsibility off you while you retain and manage everything? Just a thought I'm working on. Hope you jump shot is on point

    I thought I could handle food service but I realized quickly it wasn’t for me. I’m coming out with a video on my channel on why I quit Gordon food Service after 2 months. I haul tankers for Schneider making about the same as I did while I was at GFS. I’d only consider doing a job like that again if I can work overnight and it’s chain delivery. My area didn’t have that. Only sales service. Plus, I want to haul fuel someday. And Schneider has excellent training on unloading tanks

    In every major city not just some, but ALL major cities each cdl job opening will always have a surplus of drivers for each position available due to freight conditions as of today and the past year it’s been that way for sure. And for the foreseeable future it seems to remain that way unless something in the economy changes. That’s just the way it is. Getting a cdl today means nothing unless your willing to go over the road for weeks at a time which is a horrible job. This is coming from someone with multiple years of experience hazmat and tanker great MVR. I know dozens of people in the same position jobless the market is very bad right now. People who are in the percentage of the industry who are blessed with local 100k jobs will never understand what it feels like to be on the other side trying to get in and employers telling you they are full and not looking to hire due to slow freight and local jobs already being full

    Tracking isn't going anywhere. it's a lifeblood of the world. Happy holidays! I’m looking to come off the road for a while starting the new year. I’m done sleeping in a truck for weeks. A normal day for me was 8-10 hr days. I don’t know much about food service, which food service companies do you think 40-50 hrs a week is obtainable with? Is this realistic?

  • @imanthonytv

    @imanthonytv

    6 ай бұрын

    At Gordon Food Service, I work 43-45hrs a week. My coworkers average about 48hrs a week. Your location will play a factor in how big your routes are which ultimately determines how many hours you will work. With that said, very few food service companies have guys working under 10hrs a day. I believe Sysco has a 4 day work week option if I’m not mistaken so even if you work 12hrs a day it still keeps you under 50hrs. So yes, it’s very attainable. However, you just have to find the right company/location.

    The short answer is no BUT, your options will obviously be limited in terms of companies who will hire you with a restriction. However, it’s not impossible to get a job. Many companies including the company I work for are buying more & more new auto’s slowly transitioning out of the manuals. I think we only have 1 or 2 manuals left at my location. In order to get the restriction removed you would have to successfully pass road test in a manual. One of my former coworkers went through the process and got his restriction removed.

    20 year Trucking Vet, local side. Primarily fuel hauling. I don't think it's worth it. Pay isn't far from what it was years ago with added regulations, oversight and bs. There's so much politics involved with kiss ass dispatchers, operations people who couldn't manage a Mcdonalds and ownership who are oblivious. Not to mention just the hazards of running the road with these wheel holders and 4wheelers completely unfocused on driving. Trucking is THE most time consuming "profession" you can have. It takes your most valuable commodity (time) and pays you peanuts for it. Phuc no, Learn a digital skill, take courses, add real value to yourself so you can market yourself to the highest bidder. In regards to your question about escrow payments being deducted from paychecks, I have no idea. I’ve never heard of a company doing that. I’ll post your question for the community to take a look at and maybe someone has an answer.

    Typically Chicago land 1099 jobs will take out escrow in case you damage the truck or abandon the truck that money will come out of your escrow. If you return the truck when you leave and have not damaged the truck you we get that money back in 30-60 days. I know because I have worked for quite a few. They don’t suppose to, but it comes with the territory of working for a 1099 company because technically if your driving their truck your suppose to be a w2 employee. So when your dealing with a company that’s willing to cheat the government to save on taxes they will cheat you too. Hope that helps

    Oh yeah and any company that ends with (logistics)is most likely a 1099 no benefits company and will charge escrow

    I've been running my own authority since 2010, and business has gone down year after year since Biden became president. If you don't have a skill that can pay you $1000 per week and you don't mind living in a truck, then get a cdl. If you don't want to give up a normal life and you have a way to make $1000 plus per week, then I wouldn't recommend it. I don't think people realize how much they will sacrifice being a truck driver.
