    Nice video. I think the "trimmed" cards were actually printed on slightly smaller card stock. Also, in science it's important to have a control. I can understand Rudy not wanting to break the case (for many reasons,) so it would have been nice to line up a non-"trimmed" card with a genuine one from Rudy, to show that they match up very closely, but they do not on the "trimmed" cards. That would give us more confidence that it's not the case causing some visual distortion (although it's unlikely that a clear case would do that.)

    @@silverwolf6866 Snark aside, a few millimeters will not change perspective to this ridiculous degree AND Rudy obviously noticed the difference too so the camera changes nothing. I've tested this with 24 graded cards vs. their raw counterparts. Beta, Antiquities, and Arabian Nights (don't have the same graded/raw Alphas) Every single card I tested lined up perfectly with absolutely no variance. Look at the video again, the cards he shows are off by A LOT and it's not just the overall size, the printing on the back doesn't line up right. The Will looks straight up fake and I maintain that the "Alphas" are trimmed down Beta cards, the inking on the corners is there to hide the fact that they were clipped. BGS did a great job catching these, hopefully they got them all.

    @Alpha Investments - That Yawgmoth's Will definitely was not trimmed, it looks like the entire card is counterfeit. When you overlay them, the width difference is reflected in the brown ink of the card's rear design, not just in the black of the border. The _entire card_ appears to be about 1.5mm too narrow. You can't achieve that with a trim.

    A possible explanation why someone would trim an urza´s saga card is to get better centering grades. They measure the difference left to right and top to bottom. Say you have a card that has a wider left border, and you trim 1mm off, the borders might now be equal, and if they do not realize it he gets a way higher centering grade. Say a 9.5 instead of an 8.5, that is quite a bit of money, especially if it raises the overall grade to a 9.5, which you could not get with an 8.5 centering.

    They definitely need to be cracked from the slabs to truly compare. The perspective is throwing it off. The cards in slabs are of course going to seem smaller because you have a layer of plastic between them, and the cards on top are closer to you. As others have mentioned, the border thicknesses appear to be the same, so crack one and then compare.

    To everyone saying it may be the plastic distorting the card, it would magnify, not make it look smaller, so if anything they're even smaller then they look.

    7:53 you can see the bottom card has a purple hue on the big circle, and the top card's is more blue. Also the thin white line across the bottom of the top card is not really there on the bottom card, it looks like a dark grey line. The overall brightness of the back of the slabbed card is off also, in addition to the corner circles not matching from side to side. It really looks like a counterfeit card for many reasons.

  • @evilmark443
    @evilmark4434 жыл бұрын

    If they are indeed trimmed maybe it was done to remove evidence of inking? I do wonder how accurate the size comparison is though with the plastic slab in the way and possibly distorting things.

  • @qqwref2
    @qqwref24 жыл бұрын

    I think there's light distortion going on here. I compared a slabbed beta Swamp I have to a real bulk card (looked noticeably smaller if I brought it near my face), then an unslabbed beta Swamp to the bulk card (looked the same size). You can also notice the printed part looks smaller, so it's not just that the black area was trimmed.

    The tinfoil-hatter in new immediately thinks that this video could be a secret partnership with Beckett. But let me put the hat down for a second because, no matter what, this video puts out there information that the regular person might not have available to them and is important to be aware of when purchasing/selling old cards. And I think that is beneficial for a lot of people. It was also a fun watch. Thumbs up. I can’t believe I almost skipped this one.

    You really needed to crack one open, you can't do a size comparison on top of a thick slab of plastic. The very least you could have done is put the comparison card also UNDER the case and see if it's still bigger. Now the comparison card was always closest to the camera.

    You have the sports cards trimmers to thank for this. They probably started (if not started it, popularized it) all this trimming thing to get cards with higher grade, so they can sell for a lot more. I heard companies and individuals were investigated and now grading companies starts to take a tougher stance on card sizes.

    7:16 if you look closely you can see that the inner edge (the brown one) is also shorter, it doesnt seem to be trimmed but being smaller in general? idk looks weird because if you would trim a card shouldnt the inner corners still align ? Or is it normal for Magic cards to have different size of background "stoneplates" EDIT: nvm i guess its just the distance between the cards and the perspective

    Aligning the edges is not a definitive test. Despite only 2 or 3 mm of plastic, there is still a parallax effect. I tried it with a card inside a One-touch case. The card inside the case looks smaller. Rudy, crack the case, it'll make it a fun video!!

    6:46 If it was trimmed then wouldn't they have to trim both sides of the card so the frame lines up on the outside equally? From what I see here if it was trimmed then I would think the right outside frame would be wider then the left but bothsides look normal? Could this be misprinted from the factory as a wider card print or bad cut sheet?
