Is Batman Arkham Asylum REALLY That Good?!
With the release of Gotham Knights, a lot of people's heads are turning toward the Arkham series again. Starting off with the beginning of this Batman trilogy, it's time to ask ourselves that fated question again. Is it as good as we remember?

Just finished this game yesterday, I can't believe I missed this master piece all these years. I just started with Arkham City and it is just as incredible as asylum. These games are way better than brand new games.
Arkham asylum is something truly special probably my favourite game of all time the first time I played this I was around 7/8 years old and I couldn’t believe how good it was.I always play it once a year it’s surprising how much it holds up in 2022

Arkham Asylum laid a foundation for dozens of award winning games after it. I believe it’s an iconic and groundbreaking game for our medium (although dated in some aspects, especially when compared to its sequels). Still love it and plan on revisiting it eventually.

@@NightWatch0997 i think it probably is. I play on medium and lock it to 45 to save battery and keep it more stable cause unlocked its do 45-60 but on low it was a pretty solid 60. So I have no doubt it'd hit 30 in the batman games and honestly it can probably do 60. It's surprisingly strong I played through Titanfall 2 at a steady 60 and Elden Ring can maintain 30 and can do higher if you tinker with FSR and other settings

Still my favorite of the series! Although the controls don't feel quite as refined as they would become in City, I still think they got a lot of the foundation correct.
I always thought the way his cape and outfit deteriorate and get ripped and torn throughout the story was cool, by the end even if you haven't played it, it looks like he's been through some stuff lol
I would have to say when I first got this game I was blown away. It truly did feel like it was a GEN ahead of any other game that was out. amazing.
idk about the Console versions, but on PC, if you look at the chest of the enemies you just KO’d, you can actually see their chest rise and fall, so you can actually see that they’re still breathing after u beat brain trauma into them lol, crazy amount of detail for a 2009 game.
You had to spoil everything, didn't you? Beating up Bane, feeding Scarecrow to Croc, slapping around Harley--my hobby, by the way--and ruining all my lovely Venom plants...
Man, the pace that you put out content is insane! Keep it up and this channel will continue to grow exponentially! You’re content is all, “ever-green,” in it’s nature too. So it will always remain relevant.
Played it a week ago, and it’s still a MASTERPIECE
Gotham Knights shows us just how much Rocksteady nailed it in 2009 (DAMN I'm getting old) so props to Rocksteady for that :)
Love how the Joker is still in his iconic suit, during the intro, as Batman and the guards escort him into the depths of Arkham.
RIP Kevin Conroy 💔
Definitely my favourite game I've ever played. It may not be the best of the Arkham games in terms of gameplay, but the story is excellent even though its simplistic, and the atmosphere is simply amazing. The other Arkham games are incredible, but this will always be my favourite!
I love this game, it's the right lenght, excelent setting and mood, ending is kind of crazy but a good Game overall
I loved your "old man shouting at a cloud" speech. I couldn't agree, more, with everything you said.
I played it earlier this year and it still holds up incredibly well
Haven't opened this one yet, but you convinced me so I'll start this game tonight.
Oh my god dude Arkham Asylum I was a teenager when the Arkham games came out it's crazy that it's been 13 years since Asylum came out and 11 years since City came out one of my favorite games of the PS3 era one of the greatest superhero games ever made the Arkham games changed the gaming industry. PS I might have to go out and repurchase a PS3
Amazing game & one of my all time favorites for sure! So many memories from Arkham asylum to Arkham Knight...etc
I agree 100 percent about people being tired of great things that got done dirty. It’s crazy
I replayed this last week and i still love it, one of my fav games
I remember this game came out on my birthday. Being a huge Batman fan all my life and loving the animated series growing up I felt like this game was made just for me.
This is my favorite Batman game. I remember playing this whole game in 3D on the xbox 360. I recently replayed through the game again on the series X and got all the achievements for it.
The answer is: YES, they are amazing! All old Batman games are AMAZING!
My favourite batman game love the story and the atmosphere. On top of that low key love the non open world! There's something I love about being in the asylum, not that I don't love the open world of the rest of the series but this game is probably on top of being my fav batman game but my favourite super hero game
I literally just finished this game the other day. Origins and asylum down. City and knight left. Rocksteady’s trilogy is a masterpiece. Holds up so good
Love the intro man. Funny but not forced. Perfect personality piece. Also, yes. This game is as good as we remember.
I remember when Arkham Asylum came out in 2009 I went to my GameStop where I had my preorder for the midnight release & they had to turn customers away b/c they legit ran out of copies to sell as preorders had 48 hours to pickup. Only other major release I remember that location being out of on day 0/1 in the 12 plus years I’ve shopped there was Skyrim.
Just replayed this, it was a blast! One of my favorite franchises in gaming
Love your batfleck suit!!
I respect your work ethic 💯
I've been playing Gotham knights with a friend the couple of days and we're having fun with it and the story is great so far.
Great video. I wanna play it again now
Played this fully around a year ago for the first time and it was really special
Arkham Asylum is the best "experience" of the 3 core Arkham games. Gameplay was better in City, Knight, and Origins, but the linearity of Asylum and the progression as Batman is unparalleled in this game.
I remember playing the demo on PS3 over and over again until release. Truly loved this game.
It really is an amazing game. Some parts still stick out in my mind. Imagine a life of mid super hero games then Arkham Asylum releases. God so amazing

Loved playing through this when it came out.
theres this trick in this game, where you can place a 'beeper' thing (haven't played in awhile) and a mine in front of it, so when the beeper starts beeping, the bad guy will walk towards it and get blown by the mine thing, i think they took it out in the sequels

I SET A TRAP AND YOU SPRUNG GLORIOUSLY
Arkham Asylum IS a perfectly crafted linear game ,which set a different tone when the others are open World. But here you feel the lunatics and all criminal trape inside you . This isn't a horror game but damn some of levels were truly scary : scarcrow levels, the lunatics ... The soins design , dark ost
11:39 I replayed Arkham City the other day and had a similar thought: Everything batman does is cool, but it all feels so premeditated. Batman wouldn't be able cross the iceberg lounge to fight the penguin if the penguin hadn't left those rafts in the water. The map continuously has elements in it that the villains clearly put there, which allow batman to escape. Then I remember that in a real scenario Batman would have access to any tool and to do anything, the same way a human can. We are restricted by the gameplay mechanics, therefore the actions have to be somewhat restricted too to make sense. So yes it makes sense to say "Oh but batman could've done this and this and this shouldn't have happened" but then you have to remember this is a diluted version of batman with restricted tools, movement and access to only certain areas. So yes, sometimes Batman's way out often seems to rely on his environment, but then we have to remember that the real batman would interact with so many other things that we just can't to get the job done, and these restrictions are in place because this is game that has to be playable by a vast group of people, thus it can't be too complex. That for me settled it in my head lmao
As a guy who played all of these games on launch, and I replayed all of them dozens of times I can say. Yes , it is really that good.
I just completed this game, and I think I never played free flow combat games before or something, because right in the first fight I decided it had the best combat feel amongst the games I played.
I’ll shout into the clouds with you and you got me subscribed lol
Fantastic game. I think for me this is one of the most immersive gaming experiences I’ve had, in terms of making me feel like Batman. The only other game I can think of that sucked me into it the same way was TLOU 1. The other amazing thing about Arkham Asylum is the amount of history you can learn about Batman and the villains. It sets you up really well to dive into the classic stories from the comics, which now I really love too! I always thought Batman was cool, but after playing this game I became much more interested in the character.
First thing I did on Steam Deck was replay the Arkham trilogy
Perfect fit for the perfect series. Love the Content!
It was one of the best games created. Absolutely great Atmosphere and you really feel like Batman. Nowadays after playing the complete series I tried but couldn't go back to it (mostly because the graphics to me look outdated). Recently i played Arkham Knight which is more state of the art and... man how cool Gotham is looking, imho the best of the series. If i would start over again i would probably go with Arkham City.
Arkham asylum was my very first arkham game. I remember my sisters best friend lent arkham asylum to my sister to play then I played it. It'll always be my favorite out of asylum, city, origins, and knight. City I didn't like that much. Origins I beat for the 1st time this year. Which I think it was okay. Knight was fun at first, but the tank combat made it too much lol. Back to asylum, so I played it for the first time in October of 2009 or 2010. It was a perfect October game imo. To this day I need to remind myself that it came out in August 2009 and not October 2009. It just feels so spooky and so perfect, that it feels it fits in the most in October. Love asylum.
What most reviews fail to give Arkham Asylum to give credit for is that Arkham Asylum is probably the only actually good 3d Metroidvania game there is today.
Currently in a second playthrough after 10 years or so and for me it's a resounding YES! A lot of copycats followed which eventually led me to lose interest in the 'genre'. I remember playing the Captain America game shortly after and then seeing these mechanics move over to the Assasin's Creed series. Playing this again I feel it did a lot of those game elements better than games years after trying to improve upon it, including Arkham City. Maybe the combat got a bit smoother but in atmosphere there's no match for me!
Yes. Batman: Arkham Asylum is still my #1 Arkham game then Batman: Arkham City.
I remember buying this at launch. I was in the Air Force and I ended up catching swine flu and missed a week of work. I played this game all week and loved every second of it!
I recently tried this game with the TriOviz 3D glasses and it's looks good. I never tried back then using the 3D features for this game and others like Assassin’s Creed.
This entry is my favorite in the series yes the combat is the worst in the series but the world building absolutely top notch

If this combat is the worst in the series, then the other two games must have some damn fine action.
I'm pretty sure the "exclusive" Joker maps ended up in the Game of the Year editions anyway, so they're not PS3-only anymore.

Recently finished this game and i feel like my biggest and maybe only problem is that you can 100% this game. When you finished it, you feel like you've seen everything and stats tell you that. I wish there were more mysteries in the game and even after finishing the game you could never tell if you've seen everything or not.
This game is truly a masterpiece. Even on this day. I first played this game on the Xbox 360. And then years later, I bought the Return to Arkham pack for the Xbox One, and it's still fun. Even Arkham City is amazing. And I also watched some parts of The Batman at my English class earlier on, today. But, I have not watched all of it in the movie, yet. So, no spoilers please. Still, awesome review!
I remember I got the platinum hits version of this game at big lots for like $5 it was a real diamond in the rough
I got this game at midnight and playing it for the first time is one of my favorite video game moments
I just platinumed this a while ago, worth every minute!
I personally played every Arkham game (not counting VR) and I have full appreciation for the impact that Arkham Asylum had when it came out! I was beyond excited to play Arkham City too and loved that game even more because of how much better it was! Arkham Origins was fun and an underappreciated prequel that while it could've been a little better, it was pretty good for a game that didn't have much development time. Arkham Knight had an incredible boost in gameplay and open world qualities! I get it that the Batmobile was a little overused but be grateful they made the effort to give us a whole new game instead of just expanding the map size!
played it back in november 2013 on the 360, had a blast...played the return to arkham collection last month on the one x, guess what, had a blast once again :3
I remeber that my mom buy us a ps3 when i was a teenager i did ask for a bundle with arkham City and asylum for christmas got in love instantly the game look so beatiful and was so much fun to play
I have played it when it 1st released and have multiple copies on different systems and just finished playing and City, Knight & even Origins before Gotham Knights comes out and after playing the remasters and Origins & Knight I will have to say … it truly is an incredible Batman experience but I think and just what I think Batman Arkham City is the absolute BEST! But being a Batman fan and collecting the comics and being 43 years old.. All of the Arkham games are a masterpiece in their own right!
Bro you need to get the lenticular case for arkham asylum looks awesome
I just beat the PC version again this morning and this is still my favorite Arkham game, there are nice tweaks in the sequels that are awesome but I still prefer this game.
Bought my PS3 and first game I got for it was Arkham Asylum. It really set the standard for how PS3 games should be. The Mrs surprised me with the PS4 Arkham Knight edition. That game also set the standard for how PS4 games should be for me... nothing really measured up to that quality.
I would def say this game beats shadow of mordor but shadow of war beats the arkham games for me personally. I also love how bruce slowly gets more agressive and puts people down alot faster as the games went on
This is my favourite batman game

I recently played the Arkham series, and holy shit, does it do a good job at making you feel like Batman
I don't think I could EVER get tired of Batman! I would KILL for MORE Batman games (espec on Switch, lol)! :D Arkham Asylum is the BEST Batman game I've EVER played! Can't wait to play it again on Switch, along with the other two (and hopefully Origins eventually) since I never got to play those! :D
It’s too bad we’ll never get stand alone games from rocksteady for say batwoman catwoman or harley quinn that side story’s really made me want a whole game for those characters
I have replayed this game every year and brought every version of it on consoles lol this is the first year I haven't replayed it yet.

Best Batman suit and games. But i think the Bat movements are kind of robotic. He could be more fluid when walks
Arleen Sorkin final farewell to her iconic character Harley Quinn how can you not love this game.
I played the heck out of this on 360 hunting fine every toddler clue and the wardens secret room etc, then when I moved to ps3 I bought it again and still have it. It’s my favourite along with Origins (the true black sheep but I think a brilliant game) oh and blackgate the Metroidvania from Vita was chefs kiss 🫶
Without watching the video yet, yes, the answer is yes.
I think what makes this one kind of special…is because of the confined space…Batman stays bigger throughout the whole game. As opposed to City or Knight, where the cancers often backs off from him.
Really cool, I still have the GOTY edition for PS3
I was too stupid to get the hang of combat. Somehow the button timings didn't work for me. Or at least, I didn't put the time in to figure it out. So many great games back then, i just skipped the Batman games and never looked back.
Always said this was the best in series. NES Batman was dope too
