I felt safe during my time in Bali. I lived in Seminyak. Single female. Use wisdom. Walk with confidence. I love the people. Be aware of some of the people that are in control(officers, etc..). Do not stay 1, 2, 3, or more days beyond your visa. I had to change my ticket. I've done this in other countries with no problem. You will have to pay 1,000,000 per day in CASH to shady immigration officers for each day you overstay.

I agree, it is safe, also agree about being smart and cautious. We did got robbed big time when we were living in a rental house somewhere in Nusa-Dua 8 years ago while waiting for our home to be built in Pecatu-Uluwatu. Since then, nothing has happen. I don't know if it's because of the area we are living or because we own a Rottweiler. Having a dog definitely made me feel safer. I love it here, I hope you are too :) Stay safe and enjoy your travel!

"If you are an inexperienced traveller, no country is safe." So very true! Early in my career, I went to Geneva, Switzerland, and had my cash stolen from me by pickpockets in the mid-afternoon on a main (but not too busy) street. I was just inattentive and naive. Lesson learned!

I was in bali at a cash machine. it was down an ally and very dark in kuta. anyway this local body builder bloke came and stood outside the little booth and just watched me. I had never been so sure that on that night i was going to get bashed up and robbed and prob end up in hospital. I thought to myself i can just give him the money or i can go down fighting, being a stupid male i choose the latter and believe me i would not stand a change against this guy. So i took my hotel key out and put it between my fingers and made a fist so that i had some sort of stabbing weapon and then came out of the booth and straight up to him. i held up my fist and yelled at him "what are you watching me for" he was stunned and said he was only security from the bar next door and he is watching me to make sure i dont get robbed. lol i felt about 1 inch tall lol
